I just got a call from FedEx Freight that they have "a tool box" for me. I can't take delivery this week so I won't know 'til next week exactly which it is.

I was just surprised it wasn't XPO, RAC or OD (Old Dominion). FedEx Freight isn't real common around here although Enco sent my new vertical mill that way a couple years ago

Good thing that my wife picked-up a few things this afternoon from the local store.

So worst case scenario is liquidation which can weeks according to that article. I assume they will still honor our orders right? I still have not received my tool box and a few small orders. I kinda doubt the tool box has left Sears warehouse due to Christmas.

I paid with credit card, so I am sure I can get my money back, but believe I would lose my points so I rather have my order fulfilled.

Other than Christmas Day, Sears people have been working every day, FWIW.

Yes, AFAIK, they should still honor pre-liquidation orders. They generally can't actually immediately begin liquidation when an announcement happens, it takes a few weeks to get all the liquidation contractors in place and whatnot. They turn off ship-to-store for new orders during that prep period (and thereafter) to greatly reduce the amount of orders that would still be arriving after liquidation begins, but people on SD have reported still being able to pick up delayed orders at liquidating locations after they were no longer able to place new pickup orders to that store.

Yay! My reordered-a-week-ago SharkSaw has shipped! Should arrive in a week, a few days ahead of the original estimate when I ordered.

The Portage Michigan store missed the chopping block again. I went there the day before Christmas and it was a ghost town.

Surprised at that too. Stopped in when I had to go to that Lowe's for an order, and was much worse than what I'm accustomed to in Grand Rapids. GR store staff said they are usually top in the company for sales, but who knows maybe the rest go in the next few days as well. The Muskegon dump though finally made the cut list.

I have 2 Sears supposedly staying open in a 20 mile radius or so of my house. While at least 2 in that same radius are closing.

With that in mind...I cant see the surviving stores doing much business until the closing stores are finally shuttered.

Well that updated closing list is the nail in the coffin for me, it's now 3+ hours to the nearest sears.

Looks like 37 Kmarts and 43 Sears.

And here is the official PDF link from Sears for that list: https://searsholdings.com/docs/122818_store_closing_list.pdf

The reaper has finally come to my area... only taking out the second-closest store for me, though, phew.

Eddie Lampert did get a bid filed on Fri Dec 28, but it is only for 425 stores, so all or nearly all of the 80 locations on the new closure list would still be liquidated regardless of whether his bid gets accepted. The next step in the bid acceptance process is Jan 4, so we are probably safe (things continuing as-is) until then, at least.

"Sears' advisors have until Jan. 4 to decide whether ESL is a "qualified bidder." Only then, could ESL take part in an auction against liquidation bids on Jan. 14. They will weigh the value of Lampert's bid against offers to liquidate the company."

im fine with sears getting saved, and not just for my own gain because ive got points coming for the next few months, but all of these articles talk about there being some 'you cant sue me' clause in the deal to prevent lampert's transactions for the last decade or so from being looked in to. if there is that sort of contingency clause in his deal i hope they reject his offer--im tired of million- and billionaires stealing workers pensions blind and getting away with it.

beyond that, luckily i still have a local kmart to ship items to. im curious how a complete liquidation would work as far as the high shipping requirement and no ship to store option.

Sad really, IMO, I can still remember my Grandfather (circa mid 60's) raving about Sears all the time, "Sears and Roebucks, Sears and Roebucks, You break something they give you a new one, They're THE BEST! Sears and Roebucks,"

Went by my Hometown store the other day to pick up several orders. Big yellow closing signs... :(

Kid said last day will be Jan 19th... Everything the day I went was 35% off, and (like normal closings) would increase closer to closing... Funny enough he was carrying out 3 boxes of some DeWalt cordless tools he just bought...

Walked around the store, didn't really see anything I need or wanted. Probably will go back closer to closing just because. The owner is a really nice guy, as are all the employees... Sad to see the place go as it was a true locally owned business.

Well, we will be telling our grandchildren:
Sears is the best. I got all of these tools for free by playing SYW

Urgh sorry to hear this. I've been worried about the local Hometown store myself. So far so good for them...

yeah im still rooting for sears as well...no reason they cant still live with 400+ stores, but F that lampert dude, he shouldnt get anything out of this deal. theyve closed 90% of their stores since he took over

BTW...anyone having issues getting order confirmation emails? happened a week ago from kmart but it came through 8-12 hours later the next day. i still havent received anything on my sears order from yesterday and its going on 24 hours. not a big deal as it shows in my orders tab, but just an oddity...

The whole thing is crazy when you read about shear amount of annual losses and Lampert's handling of the whole thing. The real estate Seritage will be having to deal with etc. Completely ridiculous that this didn't happen years ago.

Right now I'm spending my $25/wk x 10 on small stuff I can pick up at my local Sears Appliance or whatever they're called. Stocking up on essentially free screwdrivers, ratchets, sockets, weird stuff. Thankfully the Sears Appliance is staying open for now. So exchanging token stuff will be easy.

I have had issues with conf emails this past week. No order conf email, no your order is ready email, etc.

Hrm. Next time anyone here does get an order confirmation email or pickup notification phone call, please post to let us know. I can hold off a few more days on my next order (it's not crucial but I would prefer if it were fixed before).

I stopped in today. It is getting pretty well picked over. Most of the tools left in the store at 35% off are still higher than they are online. I guess a lot of people don't check that because people were buying a lot today. When I got home I ordered some stuff and will pick it up at Cassville which showed they had everything in stock. I am kind of leery of having stuff shipped now.

Sorry if this news has already been posted... more bad news for folks without a nearby Sears (or want an item that isn't available for in-store pickup):

"Starting in February, points will no longer qualify toward the free shipping minimum."

... meaning we''ll have to pay $59 out-of-pocket to get free-shipping.

https://www.sears.com/en_us/dap/free-shipping.html

Of course, that assumes Sears even makes it to February...

I posted about that a week or two ago, but a reminder doesn't hurt. :)
