You might be able to remove them from the trays, and then put the magnetic strip onto your toolbox drawer, with the liners over them. The tool box drawer might act the same as the tray in enhancing the magnetism. Be careful when you put the magnetic part onto a backing plate to not pinch your skin between. You have to get a tool to pry it back off, and it hurts. Been there, done that!
----------

The most nerve-wracking part of something that seems so a simple!

I'll add that the chrome metal bends easily when separated from the red tray.

I just bought the 5 piece bolt-out set with my Personal Shopper points. The box was black with a red Craftsman logo, so it looked quite old. But if you are looking for one of the last USA Made tools, this might be a good option:

https://www.shopyourway.com/craftsman-5-pc-power-bolt-out-set/22294

Those are pretty nice. I got two of the non-power sets years ago. ( https://www.sears.com/craftsman-6-piece-bolt-out-set/p-00952060000P and https://www.sears.com/craftsman-5-piece-bolt-out-5-piece-bolt/p-00952061000P )

Sears website has it as unavailable so you can't even check local stock. I dunno how SYW.com thinks it can still be ordered via Sears. https://www.sears.com/craftsman-5-pc-power-bolt-out-reg-set/p-00952168000P

Edit: never mind, that must have been some kind of temporary glitch. Sears site is back to saying it's available locally.

Haven't done it yet, but ready to as soon as I get some equipment set up in the shop. The concept is simple: Get a 1/2" thick LDPE plastic sheet, bore holes in it the size of sockets, rivet it to the magnetic board.

Here's pictures of my 1/2" drive SAE socket board layout one one board (still deciding what to fill the rest with) and of a MTS socket holder for comparison:

I don’t think you would need to rivet it. It wouldn’t move unless you removed all sockets. This would allow you to make changes in the future.

If you are worried about movement anyway, maybe hold the overlay in place with a few of those 3M removable adhesive strips (for their wall-mount hooks) or something like that.

Thanks ssdave! That looks good.

I do not know how good/bad this evolv ratchet is. Reviews are pretty decent. On clearance $4.47. Maybe something to have for the neighbors to borrow lol

https://www.sears.com/craftsman-evo...sellerId=SEARS&prdNo=8&blockNo=8&blockType=G8

The Craftsman Evolv line is a relic of the days when Sears was reluctant to have anything non-US-made under the main Craftsman brand and color scheme. AFAIK Evolv stuff is all made in Taiwan, so it's often better these days than a similar product from main Craftsman, now that the latter are mostly from China.

Only one store in a 100-mile radius of me even might have that ratchet ('call for availability') and it's nowhere near me, so if you want one, get it while you still can.

Also, it has/had a lifetime warranty, but only if you had the receipt.

This was the biggest problem, you had to keep track of the receipt unlike the bring it in and get it replced no questions asked. That's what turned me off from it.

Anyone know of a deal today? I have to spend $21 today. Been struggling to find something

Spent my points at Kmart today.

Got a $5 off $5.
Only good 1/14 - 1/16 though.

According to SD, Kmart has been giving those kinds of receipt coupons pretty much non-stop the last couple weeks. (When you go back to spend that one, you'll probably get another!)

My only experience with the Evolv line is an extendable 3/8th's ratchet... made in China... same model number as currently on Sears website (10033)... but with a different handle color scheme (like this - https://www.kmart.com/craftsman-evolv-3-8-in-drive-extendable-ratchet/p-00910033000P).

I actually used it last weekend to pull the starter on my winter beater... worked fine and the extra leverage helped 'persuade' some rusted bolts to let go. When extended, there's a little play... but the handle is comfortable... it has a reasonably high tooth count... and it got the job done.

As for the warranty... I ordered it online... so just kept a copy of the e-mail receipt. But I really can't see walking into Lowes with it and expecting them to replace it.

Tip of the cap to 7avalon7...I've purchased a bunch of the magnetic panels, 11 of them in the last 30 days. I went on with Sears chat after you posted the price drop and got over $100 back in points from price protection then turned around and ordered 8 more right away at the new price. Was just about to order more today but they are all sold out now. I had checked the stock of these magnetic panels a couple days before the price drop, they had 800+ available to ship. Guessing that post on SD is what wiped all the inventory out so quickly. It was an amazing deal as Home Depot sells the same panel but half the size (12" x 6") for $19.97

I've been using them as drawer liners and the back panel of my tool chest. Got the back panel idea from that 52" Husky tool chest that has a magnetic back panel. Came up with using them as drawer liners on my own though. I had purchased one of each size mechanics time savers and planned to use them as the socket rails for all of my sockets but when I put my tallest socket on the MTS, together they were a hair too tall for the drawer (3.9") I was going to use for sockets. Next I was thinking about using that kaizen foam because I liked the idea of laying them flat so that I could put the sockets in shorter profile drawers and I would be able to easily see the sizes but that seemed like it was going to be way too tedious. When I found the craftsman magnetic panel it seemed like it could be exactly what I was looking for if the magnets were strong enough so I ordered two to test out. Only been using them about a month but they've worked great for me so far.

I keep saying I am done with Sears because of their incompetence, but they keep dragging me back in. I had quite the experience yesterday at Sears. I drove an hour to my closest store to pick up some items. I bought 2 clothing items to get that $30 back on $30, and both items I received were the wrong color and size. I also purchased another clothing item that I purchased with points, it was leopard print instead of white (wtf) and I returned it, but I haven't seen my points returned however. Chat is of no help, they tell me to go back to the store. I haven't received my points from the $30 promo either, and chat was no help with that. I actually tried 3 agents. In the past they have just added my points when they neglected to award them, so not sure if they are tightening up or what. I was told it was reported and to wait X amount of days. I wonder if they are just trying to get past Monday's decision before giving anyone points. I may be returning a bunch of stuff next week... Oh, I also ordered some clothes to pickup in store, all of them had the security tags on them. Same visit yesterday I went to the jewelry counter to pick up and order, and the woman would not give me my order without seeing an email. I ordered this stuff a month ago, I probably have 250 Sears emails, so I showed her my Sears app with the items shown paid for, wasn't enough for her. I asked her to call a manager over, I had finally had enough. To pick up a few items, with a 2 hour round trip, I wasted almost 5 hours of my life yesterday.

I haven't received my points back either for the price protection I did on a few items. How long does that usually take before you guys see the points back in your accounts?

---------------
When it's comes to apparel orders from Sears/Kmart:

  • Verify the size
  • Verify the color
  • Verify the quantity (even whether a pair of shoes include two)
  • Check for security tags
  • Check for stains (ewww, another customer's return?)

I've run across strict employees at other retailers as well. I'm guessing they got in trouble once for giving an order to the wrong person. I remember one employee complaining about a mess involving a guy taking an ex-wife's order.

If I didn't use surprise points, then I get the points quickly.

If I used surprise points, then I need a customer service agent that will manually issue the refund. When the software calculates a price protection refund, it does not refund the portion that is from surprise points.

Here's an online clearance deal that turned into a pain the ***. Attempt at your own annoyance. Clearance prices (including the magnetic panel) were not available in-store at my full-line Sears store.

Could not add items to my cart on desktop site, so I had to use mobile site. Could not complete order on mobile site, so I had to get customer service to place the order.

In-store pickup or ship-to-store. Both are probably made in Taiwan:

Craftsman Brake Spring Pliers $5.47 (reg. $18.99)
spin_prod_1133946412

Craftsman Adjusting Brake Tool $1.47 (reg. $7.99)

Just got mine delivered. Mine did not have any strange bends. They were all straight. Made in India.

Looks like the reviews were just isolated defects.

After seeing your comment, I decided to examine these at the local store. I didn't find any bent bars either.

Almost forgot, had one more thing go wrong with my order. I ordered a Craftsman riveter and received some Chinese off-brand. It had a green handle, I don't recall the name. They told me it was made by the same manufacturer and they would honor the lifetime warranty, lol. I'm picturing myself bringing my broken off-brand riveter to whomever ends up replacing craftsman hand tools (fingers crossed) and telling them, "honest, Sears said it was really a Craftsman with a green handle."

Surebonder? If so they make a pretty good rivet tool, as well as glue guns etc. I wouldn't consider them off brand.

Thanks, ordered one pair of pliers and two of adjuster. Their economy shipping was only $4.48 which is well worth not driving to my local store(s). I'm in no hurry

Yup, Surebonder. This one that's $9.99 on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0002YWEEY/?tag=atomicindus08-20

I'm not going to argue that Surebonder is inferior to Chinese Craftsman, but I have never placed an order for something anywhere, and received a different brand, without someone first asking me if I approved of the replacement.

It's uncommon but I've seen this kind of thing happen with a few other items before. Sometimes something advertised on the Sears website as being Craftsman-branded has the physical product you receive actually being under the manufacturer's brand they rebranded as Craftsman, and IIRC one time I had the opposite happen - I think the "Lisle" mechanic's stethoscope I ordered about a year ago actually showed up in Craftsman packaging.

The only thing you're losing is a) the ability to readily return the product, and b) the ability to use the warranty on the product. But these things aren't much to lose these days with the way Sears is headed.

If you complain to the Sears.com online chat, you may be able to get a refund and/or a replacement shipped.

I always do my request for price protection points in chat, and insist on seeing the full points back reflected in my account (on the SYW points history page) immediately, before signing out of chat.

Oooh shiny. Nice pics. Wish I had room to put my punches/chisels on a couple of those magnetic panels like that. Is the panel strong enough to hold those vertically too, without a metal surface behind the magnetic panel (IIRC that makes some difference), if you know?

PS: Did you really manage to get all that Sears stuff in Zimbabwe like your profile says?

Oh, so that's what that is supposed to be for... I think I have one of those from an estate sale, I just thought it was a small prybar with no particular purpose, lol.

They are easy to confuse as such but when you need to adjust a star wheel it can be the difference between success or losing your **** running around screaming like an ape.......or maybe that's just me.

Oh No, a blessing when you need to adjust rear brakes.
Lot of people will say, Oh those are self adjusting. Yes, to a point, But IME self adjusters dont keep the shoes nice and close like a manual adjustment will. I always adjust rear drums when I do front pads.
Makes a big difference in the peddle feel and stopping ability.

Craftsman hand riveters are not covered under the lifetime warranty, so you're not out much there.

LOL... My first car was a 67 mustang with all drum (and not power either)... Always known exactly what that tool was, but I bet most of my friends didn't... hehe...

When they were trying to convince me to keep the Surebonder, they told me it would have a lifetime warranty! Wasn't really about the tool anyway, just the fact that I was given something branded differently than what I ordered.

Thanks! It works good for me vertically on my tool chest (pic below). The tool chest is metal though of course. I haven't tested it without having a metal surface behind it. Don't know that I have an application in mind that wouldn't use metal. One could also double up on the magnet at that price or back it with several of the free HF magnet strips alternatively.

Haha..I didn't realize it showed location under our name when we post. I just picked somewhere random when I signed up, not thinking of the usefulness at the time. I'm in between TN and VA at the moment.

Thanks for the reply. :) Interesting idea about putting those magnet strips behind the panels for more hold, but I think they are longer than the sides of these squares, FWIW.
