Finally had the time to stop at Sears and pick up the adjustable pry bars. These seem really well made. They have a great feel to them and the weight is noticeable. Taiwan made.

:)

Mine are also stamped "Taiwan".

I notice the pry bar set's product page has a different answer from a MySears expert:

"According to our tool team, These are currently manufactured in China. Thank you!"

I'm only aware of 28" and 24" Gladiator cabinets so if one needs or wants 30" these may still be preferable. But yeah, I got one of the 28's at Lowe's for $89? I think it was?

Gladiator makes a 30" pre-welded USA-made wall cabinet that would regularly drop to $100 or less on sale from Sears. I've yet to see anybody offer a deal nearly as good since Sears dropped Whirlpool. It used to be posted and discussed frequently here in the deals forum.

For reference:

https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=269729

Whirlpool (owner of Gladiator) started pulling away from their long relationship with Sears back in 2017.

Thanks for the info. I believe they were short staffed, as about a month ago it was the store manager fulfilling pick up orders, so that may be the cause. They must be having real trouble finding employees, the tool associate was wearing jeans and a black sweatshirt and really did not look like he was an employee.

Also Hexan, the red aluminium square was made in the US at one point. I have one.

I remember one of the merchandise pickup guys at a store (now closed) explaining they caught up on their workload by turning off online orders before an inspection.

Basically, they cheated on a test.

I will like to add that I was given a $5 Off coupon because I waited linger than 5 minutes for my order to be retrieved.

The lady who got the items was not wearing a uniform. Had definitely been smoking before she came out to scan my phone, after I had already scanned it on the kiosk, and was rather flustered at having someone at the pick up area.

I don't understand how Sears is still operating.

LOL.... I thought they do away with that program... it's completely bs with loopholes... I guess your area sears guys are not smart enough to figure out how to do in in 5 minutes and still make the customer wait for 20 minutes... :lol_hitti

Haha!!!

Yeah reading over the details on the coupon, I'll need to wait for a full moon that lands on a Tuesday, with the dates being the 11th, 18th, or 22nd and I need to be there no more than 8 minutes before closing time for the coupon to work. So nothing more than emergency toilet paper...

It's been a while since the only time so far that I've had a slow-pickup coupon, but I don't remember it being any harder to use than any other in-store-only Sears coupon. :dunno:

The only issue I had was I had to purchase something that was greater than $5.
The cutting oil for the two and die set was $4.99 and the computer rejected it.

One way to avoid them turning off the timer early is to Start the pickup process from your sears app. I do it as describe my vehicle as a 2017 black jacket.

for pick up in store--i always asked to see the item before i signed for it. that always kept them honest because every time someone would come out with a hand scanner and ask for a sig so they could turn the timer off, then it would take 10 minutes for the item to arrive.

also, yesterday i got $5 freecash for my half birthday from kmart (none from syw or sears), followed by $5/25 for home from kmart, then today i got $10/100 sears freecash. i think those might be the first freecash offers ive seen since the bankruptcy that i didnt have to text for.

EDIT: also just got a $5 half bday from sears too, as well as $50/500 freecash. at least theyre finally starting to show again

Anyone buy the new Craftsman 20V power tools (Sears version, not SBD)? I didn't think there would be more due to the bankruptcy, but the local store had a circular saw and reciprocating saw. Don't see them on the website yet.

I have finally seen them yesterday on eBay. I looked on www.sears.com, and they were not on there.

The back of the coupon shows a laundry list of exclusions. I'll give it a try though.

Been eyeing this CF deep offset box end wrench metric set since last year, but lowest I have seen was $42ish. Surprisingly it is now $27.

The standard set is also $27:

Any thoughts on the quality?

Reviews say the current Chinese version isn't as good as the earlier US version, FWIW.

BTW, Sears has recently switched from showing reviews by newest-first by default, to showing them in 'top rated'-first order. So it looks better at first glance than the full picture does.

Right it is made in China and I don’t expect to be better/equal vs US version. But at $27 maybe it is worth it? Or should I just look somewhere else? It will be mostly OOP.

I think it's probably worth $27, the dissatisfied people mostly paid full price from what I saw. If HF doesn't offer that particular type of wrenches (I haven't looked), this is probably as good of a deal as it's going to get for them. :)

I think they are better than the offset wrenches HF sells and worth the $27. Buy SAE and metric and get $15 back in points.

Have any of these ultimate collection tools been posted?

https://www.cnbc.com/2019/03/07/sears-is-sued-over-craftsman-brand.html

Sent from my Pixel 2 using The Garage Journal mobile app

That was one of the new tools I posted about last fall, but I think everyone was more interested in the rolling seat with tool storage.

If I remember correctly, they started using that "real home" of Craftsman marketing during the holidays. I was expecting a response from SBD before the end of the year, but never heard anything.

The China wrenches that you posted are fine. I have USA and China versions of the metrics, and I can't tell any functional difference in them. Very decent wrench set for the $$ at that price.

That would be a lot better deal if "local" Sears still existed for me.

Interesting Sears story for me related to the $150 cash back order.
Received and checked my order and it was fine except they left the anti-theft tag in the boot.
So today I tried to take it apart myself after searching methods on how to do it.
First tried the magnet method, but that didn't work for whatever reason.
Then tried the rubber band method and that worked great.
I wont have to make a special trip just to get the tag removed.

Same story for me. Sears is going to have to come out with some amazing products, fix their high free shipping threshold, or bother to make things available to ship to the last remaining hometown within a hundred miles or the party is over.

B_Bimmer, shipping price is not too bad when I put stuff in the cart and stop one click short of buying.

My local Sears closed, too. It's $9 in gas money and 40 minutes one way to the closest HomeTown store.

Unless I drive an hour to the "local" Sears big store, online is it for me.

Same here. Picking up at local store is not a good option for me. I would spent about 1 hr if I have to pick up at local Sears hometown only (~15-20min drive with no traffic, 10 min wait for them to get my stuffs, then 15-20min drive back) plus gas money. If I happen to be in that part of town then I will make a pick-up, or let my wife get them since usually she has weekly meeting close to Sears. I am very lucky that I have good relationship with the store. They would keep my stuffs 2-3 weeks without cancelling my order.

It would be great if they reduce their free shipping from $59 because that open up a lot more stuffs for me that can not be picked-up hometown store. I have tried price match with Home Depot, but not sure if Sears would give free shipping too (never try this). I live a lot closer to HD or Lowes than Sears.

And if they can get some of their suppliers back, like Knipex, that would be awesome.

So far this year, with getting so little points, I will be buying mostly cheap stuffs using points. Right now I am making sure I have all sockets without any skips, so will be buying some of those single sockets.

Darn, I wasn't even aware of those little pliers until now, and now they're gone. Reviews indicate many uses beyond 'ignition'.

were $11.99 https://www.sears.com/craftsman-ignition-plier/p-00904513000P

So it seems that the US version is great little plier (I too missed buying this one).

But I just notice that there is a different CF ignition plier for same price $11.99? It has no review but it was added in 2010. Any thoughts?

Sears being Sears? :dunno:

This 2018 tool set has the exact same date: "Added on October 21, 2010"

Craftsman Ultimate Collection 23 pc. Metric Socket Wrench Set
https://www.sears.com/dewalt-6-1-2-in-18t-steel-fast-cut/p-A028767024

Also, remember how the recent locking pry bar set deal was on a webpage created in 2019, but the pry bars don't appear to be any different than the ones from the old webpage.

I think you should expect those ignition pliers to be Made in China.

It's looking like it's gonna be another Spring season without Sears putting any effort into the Lawn & Garden department.

Yeah, I ended up buying the non-Craftsman-branded version from the same manufacturer, in an Amazon order last fall. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00GJXWLYU/?tag=atomicindus08-20

I don't know why Sears sometimes makes a duplicate product page that carries over the old product page's date like that but not the reviews; same thing they did with the indexing prybars recently too.

If the reviews go back to US made products, maybe this is a good thing.

But on other products, they've repeatedly changed manufacture location, and even product design, without changing product pages or even updating the product photo (for years!). And in the case of the prybars, manufacture location had not changed. Point is there's no rhyme or reason to when they randomly decide to abandon the original product page and make a duplicate with a false date on it, and they often haven't done a new page when they should have. :dunno:

I bought the Wilde version of the ignition pliers from HD last fall. It was discussed here comparing the tools (Craftsman USA and Wilde)

It’s a dead give away it’s China made with the red on the handles. Looks just like all the current pliers lineup.
