Thanks for the info. That's sad. Craftsman used to have top-quality US-made adj. wrenches.

"Tax Day" sale coming up on Sun 4/14/19, supposed to be 12% off storewide according to the flyer I found in my Sears today. It probably works like F&F, where in-store it gets applied at the register as a coupon, so can't be combined with other coupons/freecash; but online it's just an up-front markdown so it can be combined.

Here it is! :)

FWIW...this might be a mislabeled item. pic shows 5pc and item # corresponds with 5pc, but it lists 7pc multiple times in the body and the 5- and 7pc part #s are only 1 digit off so it might be worth rolling the dice if someone wanted to try it. if its the 7pc for this price thats much better than the $40 on amazon

Chat is giving me a hard time about price-adjusting orders that had coupons used on them, even one that already got price-adjusted by a previous chat rep on a lower-percent-off sale, they are so inconsistent. :headshake Eventually got a couple bucks out of them.

The famously longlived retailmenot $5 off $35 coupon that I used on these 'problem' orders is now no longer available, btw! :eek2:

Anyone know where these adj wrenches are made now or by whom?
Pretty good price on 15" if good quality.

China. I just picked up the 12". It is surprisingly nice and matches my Western Forge very closely. Although not perfect, the finish is very nice, the machining is well done and the operation is smooth. Great deal for $10. I'd say nicer than the Crescent and Husky at home depot. I hope the 15" I ordered is just as nice.

Chat tried to play me earlier today on there price protection policy...
same here. item dropped another $2 and i'd already gotten a protection on it so when i asked they just said it had already been processed w/o offering to adjust to the new difference. i had to ask 3x

i will say tho--it seems like maybe theyve whittled the chat reps down to knowledgeable ones now. it no longer takes them 10 minutes per item

Nice. The "Build A Tool" product line is all legacy discontinued stuff AFAIK (haven't seen any of that line in stock at my store in years). (Edit: I assumed that would mean it's all US-made, but no, top neg review says they did switch it to China for a while.) It's OOS in most stores, but one or more stores somewhere in the country is still willing to ship it to home.

Sears Hometown and Outlet Stores considering liquidating Hometown stores

Nathan Bomey, USA TODAY | Published 1:32 p.m. ET April 15, 2019 | Updated 4:18 p.m. ET April 15, 2019

The largest shareholder of Sears Hometown and Outlet Stores took steps Monday to block the retailer from liquidating more than 80 percent of its stores.

Eddie Lampert – who owns 58.8 percent of Sears Hometown and Outlet Stores and has been thwarted in his attempt to acquire the rest – disclosed in a public filing that the retailer's board was set to vote Monday afternoon "to determine to liquidate the Hometown segment of the business."

The retailer [SHOS] had 549 Hometown stores and 128 Outlet stores as of Feb. 2
, according to a separate public filing.

The Hometown stores have been suffering, having posted a 6 percent decline in sales at stores open at least a year, in the 2018 fiscal period.

Sears Hometown and Outlet Stores was formerly part of Sears Holdings, which owned the Sears and Kmart chains before its recent Chapter 11 bankruptcy and sale to Lampert's ESL. Sears Hometown and Outlet Stores spun off as its own publicly traded company in 2012.

The retailer has faced collateral damage from October’s Chapter 11 bankruptcy of its former parent company, citing the public's questions about "the company's ability to operate its businesses."

Lampert recently offered to acquire the portion of Sears Hometown and Outlet Stores that he does not own for about $21 million. But the retailer has rejected that proposal.

In response to their impasse, Lampert on Monday ousted board members William K. Phelan and David Robbins and replaced them with Alberto Franco and John Tober.

He also moved to impose a requirement that 90 percent of the seven-person board must vote to proceed with liquidation, and they must do so in two separate meetings at least 30 business days apart.

A Sears Hometown and Outlet Stores representative was not immediately available to comment.

The clash comes about two months after Lampert's ESL acquired Sears Holdings assets out of Chapter 11 bankruptcy, preventing a total liquidation of the owner of the Sears and Kmart brands. Lampert was previously the largest shareholder, CEO and chairman of Sears.

Lampert argued Monday in a letter to Sears Hometown and Outlet Stores board members that liquidating the company's Hometown stores would not be in the best interests of shareholders and others involved in the business.

"Any decision to liquidate the Hometown Business would also negatively affect many of the Company’s other stakeholders, including the many Hometown owners and their families, who have supported the Company for more than 25 years, along with their employees and the communities that they serve," Lampert wrote.

He said the legal entity that he used to acquire Sears and Kmart out of bankruptcy, known as Transform Holdco, would do a better job of managing and investing "to preserve the network of Hometown stores and encourage these long time owners to continue to operate their businesses."

I doubt Eddie is trying to revive Sears. Why deal with headaches of trying to consolidating, controlling cost, deal with creditors, run day to day management of a large corporation, and at the end there is only a very slim chance Sears is going to make it. Amazon, Walmart, Target, Meijer etc etc is not getting smaller and they all sells tools, clothes, and pretty much anything that Sears sells, but with better website, better B&M, a whole lot more cash in hand, etc. Sears is done, the question is how much longer it will last, and how much more tools we can get (for cheap/free).

My guess is to continue his well proven strategy. Squeeze as much money as one can from dying Sears by selling parts of it off piece by piece. Least amount of efforts to generate the most amount of profit.

I doubt real estate has much to do with this move. Probably not a lot of their outlets are sitting in prime shopping areas, and the rest is all franchise stores, which are mostly in small towns and probably almost entirely leased.

Heard a couple months ago that Eddie wants to spruce up the Sears cash register software using the less-clunky version which SHOS has developed during their time apart. That could be part of the motivation, if they're giving him a hard time about getting ahold of the software.

The biggest reason is probably that regular-Sears has shrunk so much that they need to reintegrate the supply chain and vendor contracts of Sears stores and SHOS stores to get back to a workable scale, with logistics and bulk discounts and whatnot.

IMO they never should have spun off SHOS from the rest of Sears in the first place, and it makes sense to reunite them. It seems especially silly to have the outlet stores not be part of the main company they get all their inventory from. And yes the Hometown/Appliance/Hardware stores are franchises, but other companies I'm aware of that are a mix of corporate and franchisee locations (e.g. many fast food chains) keep it all under one umbrella.

Nothing will truly fix the companies, but they'll probably last longer together than they would apart. And Eddie does have a lot of experience keeping things going for far longer than anyone thought would happen. (News articles have been declaring Sears' imminent demise several times a year for like a decade straight.)

Tabs, there was nothing wrong with Arfly's link... if you're getting redirected to the Sears homepage with it, then Viglink is probably broken for Sears links again, go to viglink.com/opt-out

Thank you for this! Was getting tired of copying the GJ link and fishing out the actual Sears link.

It's not surprising to see Sears raise some prices before the end of a sale event, but they might have come up with a new method.

In the past, they would reduce the discount percentage. However, today I noticed the full retail price was increased for an item.

Craftsman Workstation with 12% off tools discount.

Was $30.79 (reg. $34.99)

Now $35.19 (reg. $39.99)

None in stock around me, but maybe someone else with a nearby store will have more luck.

There was a small stack at the checkout counter about two months ago, but could not find them on a recent trip to the store.

Craftsman 4pc Flip Impact Socket Set $21.11

No shipping option either.

That might be a real permanent regular-price increase, just happened to hit during the sale. It's not happening to most items right now AFAIK. They have raised regular prices in the past several months by a few dollars on several items I kept an eye on, though the increases were fortunately not widespread then either.

Oh
Got $15 in free cash to use by today, along with $10 in points. I think that Craftsman 5 piece large wrench set is going to make its way to my house 😎. Was looking at a single 1-1/16” wrench, but I might as well get the 5 piece set.

They must have upgraded the MDF boards to Ikea quality.

I just found another item whose regular price suddenly went up this week. And it's not going back down now that the 12%-off sale is over, either.

Was $10.99 regularly until this week, now suddenly it's $12.09! So now ~10%-off sales will just bring it back down to what used to be the non-sale price.

Don't underestimate tariffs. The el-cheapo Kenmore range in the merch pickup area of my store has crept up from $399.99 to $578.99 in the 6 months alone. But that couple bucks a month tax cut tho....

Interesting, there's no merchandise displayed in my store's pickup area. There wouldn't be much room to, largely because of a counter they never use anymore; I'm guessing that in the years before the pickup kiosk computer, they used to have a person stationed there to handle pickup requests.

Eddie Lampert now getting sued for plundering the company while he intentionally destroyed it.

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/sear...ssets-drove-bankruptcy-175843318--sector.html

Unreal.

I doubt much will come of that (the remnants of the old company are probably just putting on a show so they can tell the unpaid or partially-paid creditors "well, we tried"), and it will probably take years for the case to conclude either way. Heck, the new company might not even still be in business by then anyway. ;)

That is how I feel. Why sue now, I mean you have to be blind for not seeing what he did until now. Everyone knows anything that is worth a buck is being sold piece by piece.

They want to make sure they do not get sued too so here is the dog and pony show. This way they can say hey we tried, we lost...

Had 15 in free cash plus $28+ to use in points today, so had to come up with something to buy. It's been real hard to find anything meaningful that is in stock lately. Found these Tig Welding gloves for $39.99, so by paying $6.25 in shipping, was able to spend out the points and freecash. Better than letting $28 in points expire, I let $15 go last week, didn't have time to go in and order some batteries or such for store delivery with them. https://www.sears.com/dewalt-premium-tig-welding-gloves/p-A036510090

prod_20622477812

Thanks for the heads-up on these gloves. It's getting harder and harder to find anything to use points on. These look pretty nice and have great reviews, so I ordered 2 pair.

Also very interesting that the current Treasury Secretary of the United States is implicated in this lawsuit...

Eddie's old college roommate you mean

Yeah, Eddie has friends in high places. The relevance here is that Mnuchin was on the Sears board until a couple years ago, when he resigned to become Treasury Secretary.

There are a lot of other people (former board members)/entities being sued too.

"Adversary case 19-08250. Complaint against Edward S. Lampert, ESL Investments, Inc., RBS Partners LP, CRK Partners LLC, SPE Master I L.P., ESL Partners L.P., SPE I Partners L.P., RBS Investment Management LLC, ESL Institutional Partners L.P., ESL Investors, L.L.C., PP LLC, JPP II LLC, Fairholme Capital Management, L.L.C., Cesar L. Alvarez, Bruce Berkowitz, Paul Depodesta, Alesia Haas, Kunal Kamlani, William Kunkler III, Steven Mnuchin, Ann Reese, Thomas J. Nature(s) of Suit: (14 (Recovery of money/property - other)) Filed by Paul M. Basta on behalf of Sears Holdings Corporation, Sears, Roebuck and Co., Sears Development Co., Kmart Corporation, Kmart of Washington, LLC."

It's part of the existing bankruptcy court docket, filed 4/18/19, and includes over a hundred pages of complaints about the recent history of Sears.
