So I attached the photos, hopefully they show up ok. Lots of cool stuff in a closing store. Also when they closed they called me because they found an order of mine that got missorted.

I ended up getting a tour of the back rooms, it was immense, multiple floors. They couldve had double the inventory they had on the floor on a good day back there. The store manager told me there was even a furniture section with nice hardwood floors that had been walled off for years. I remember back in the 90's we bought a kitchen table there. I had forgotten all about furniture on the second floor and how much bigger it was, they walled it off 20 years ago.

When my local store closed last month, I got these for pennies.

Midnight madness tonight :) Glad I waited to burn some points!

Seat is back up to $49.99, I’m guessing so they can knock it back down for the midnight madness sale tonight.

Darn. The homepage says the extra 10% off is only for a few tool categories:

-Mechanics Tools Sets $199+
-Garage Organization
-Screwdriver Sets

The seats dropped back down, because they fall under Garage Organization.

ZA-H stamped is Ultimate Collection (now assortment) great star.

ZA-J same part # from breaker bar 3 pack. Even disregarding the oil for shipping the chrome is not as bright and the handle is slightly thicker. Could still be great star from another factory or is an entirely different vendor. Dated 22nd week of 2019 which was end of May/early June.

For breaker bars, wouldn't thicker handles be more preferable? :dunno:

Yeah, they need to fire that marketing company.

They should also try calling their own India-staffed customer service to experience just how many meaningful moments you get to spend on hold and then trying to interpret the thickest accent you've ever encountered (I realize chat is much, much better)

It’s probably an inconsequential amount. I think it would matter more how hard the steel is.

More concerning would be the fact they use the same part numbers. The product is different enough, noticeably so. I haven’t warranted one of these breaker bars so I dunno if they just replace it or replace the end piece if it breaks. Since there are slight differences who knows how things would fit together, if it would fit as tight. If they replace the whole thing the ultimate collection one looks better made or at least nicer finished. I’d assume you just get what they’ve got.

Since they’ve relabeled the Ultimate Collection as Ultimate Assortment I don’t think they’re going to stop sourcing from great star either. Our store still has the older Ultimate Collection stuff at the moment and had tons of it so if they stick around a while it still probably won’t be until after Christmas when stuff is sold down that you’d even see the new ones for comparisons.

I’m sure much of this as to do with vendor issues. They are probably forced to fill in what they can with who they can get it from. Unlike before where aside from a few stray oddball items stuff like mechanics tools pretty much all come from the same vendors for the length of the contracts.

When Western Forge dropped off at least the pliers were different logos.

I start laughing every time they tell me they will “do the needful...” if you google “Sears SHI India” you get a lot of info and this cool time line of Sears

Picked up my 96" workbench last night. All 135 pounds of it. Hopefully I'll have time to assemble it this weekend.

Not good as the $10 off $10 coupon that was advertised in their BF ad, but better than nothing.

Text CHEER to 73277.

Sears $10 off $25 in-store coupon, valid thru 12/15.

It's Free Shipping Day (12/14), and both Sears and Kmart have banners about free S&H. Though, it appears it's meant for their Marketplace sellers. For items sold by Sears or Kmart, I only see the usual $35+ free shipping.

I believe that is a previously confirmed typo. A ten is pictured.

Nothing like fixing the typo then... I don’t think they have had these in stock for ages they had plenty of time to fix it. Almost reminds me of the metric offsets, they were gone forever, then popped up again out of the blue only to be sold off during the blowout event. If they dropped them to half off I’d probably grab a set with points.

I have noticed some sporadic restocks on various items, but I don't think some of these long gone ones were in any of my saved lists so it’s mere luck on my part if I turn one up.

Not a hot deal by any stretch but these were gone forever and now they’re back. The SAE set is back too but that one has popped up before, the Metric one I have not seen in a very long time.

I love these wrenches and use them far more than I anticipated. I think I paid $59/set, but that was the lowest they ever were. You can buy a larger GW set for less than this, so unless they go on sale or you need to burn some points, I'd hold off at full price.

+1

Great to work in tight space and really like the extra length for leverage when needed.

Today I was at the Montgomery Mall Sears (Bucks County, PA.) and it was sadly closing and having a "total liquidation" sale. Most items were at "regular prices" and they were taking 20% off...... NOTHING to see here so I kept moving. Last year at this time this store was very busy and well stocked.

BTW! Someone needs to pull the plug on this $h1t show and put Sears out of its misery.

So, I've had a bazillion points rolling in the last week and some getting close to expiring and I see on one hand sears has jacked the prices up on some standard items, however, a lot of things that had gone out of stock are coming back or fully back. For example the 3/8 impact set, the 95 piece impact socket set are both back, tho at full price - they are available for ordering, I hadnt seen those in awhile. Digiclick torque wrenches were in and out for a few weeks seem to be back in stock for ordering at least but not in any stores by me. So, I don't think they're going back into bankruptcy any time soon.

Odd that multimeters are gone except the low end model, seems like they'd add something in, they added some more estwing items ( but a strange mix of stuff like 30 different sledge hammers), Max Axess I suspect is dead. 84T slim ratchet sets have been scrubbed from the site, honestly no great sale items that I can find, which makes sense since they've got to have a ton of points floating around out there after doing 100 back on a 100 for 30 days or so straight.

One item thats a good deal, if you want the 12 piece deep impact socket set both metric and sae are on sale for $39.99 which is a very good price for those, also not a hot buy, so coupons work. They also have a shop vac muffler/diffuser which I havent seen before that seemed like a good buy for around $5 and some change.

My dad has had that muffler diffuser for years but I noticed no real difference with it installed.

I dunno who produced Max axess for them probably Apex. Frankly the most useful thing is the tap and die attachment handle that works with them. I bought a huge set on clearance for $37 (which I’ll attach a pic of) like 5 years ago and never once used it. It seems like a good idea but I have’t found the situation where I needed it or it would work better. Maybe someday...

I think all those pass through sockets are covered by a single patent and licensed to various manufacturers by the designer, I think a few months back it turned up in a post here or elsewhere about another design the guy had patented. Sears probably has to license it like anyone else and then pay to have it branded as craftsman.

I’ve noticed a few stray Diehard items come back in that were out for ages.

I’d be interested to know who they sourced the impact sockets from. They were from Apex at one point wonder if they switched to great star or patched up with Apex, if they patched up the Apex relationship open stock sockets should be readily available eventually.

Edit the points thing does make sense, Jack all the prices up and people with gift cards worried about sears will spend them fast on barely discounted merchandise after Christmas. The points will mostly run out by mid January. So the $100 on $100 really becomes much less. Entice people to buy gifts with it, then give them a smaller reward in the end.

Remember that you can price match within 30 days so if buying something even at higher price, you have a chance to price match if the price come back down. It is risky but I have done it.

Okay, I finally had time to catch up on Sears news updates from the past few weeks:

Liquidations, now with countdown numbers of remaining stores:
  • After the Nov 6-7, 2019 big-closure-list stores, we were down to 122 remaining corporate Sears and 60 Kmarts (+1 inside the Brooklyn Sears) once those finish liquidating.
  • On Nov 20, Beaumont, TX and Bel Air, MD Sears closures were announced, bringing it down to 120 Sears and 60 Kmarts (+1 inside the Brooklyn Sears).
  • On Dec 3, Burlington, NC Sears was announced - down to 119 Sears and 60 Kmarts (+1 inside the Brooklyn Sears).
  • On Dec ~6-7, someone noticed that the Temple City, CA Kmart is closing (apparently Mar 8, 2020) - down to 119 Sears and 59 Kmarts (+1 inside the Brooklyn Sears).
  • On Dec ~11, someone found out by calling the Raleigh, NC Kmart that it will be closing Feb 16, 2020 (or perhaps Feb 14) - down to 119 Sears and 58 Kmarts (+1 inside the Brooklyn Sears).
  • On Dec 11, the Freehold Township, NJ Sears was announced as closing - down to 118 Sears and 58 Kmarts (+1 inside the Brooklyn Sears).
  • On Dec 13, the Brooksville, FL Sears was announced to be closing after an unusually short liquidation period ending in mid-Jan 2020 - down to 117 Sears and 58 Kmarts (+1 inside the Brooklyn Sears).
  • On Dec 16, the Danbury, CT Sears (which had downsized 3 years ago from 2 floors to 1) was announced as closing in Feb 2020 - down to 116 Sears and 58 Kmarts (+1 inside the Brooklyn Sears) (12 outside mainland US).

I came across an interesting tidbit in this article from last year - apparently the average full-line Sears has $6 million MSRP in inventory when it begins liquidation.

Word is that all remaining Sears Optical locations (cubbyholes inside full-line Sears stores) operated by Luxottica will be closed by Feb 7, 2020.

The Sears distribution centers are still full of game tables (ping-pong, etc), as we'd heard 6 weeks ago. (More continually arriving, not the same ones sitting.) Not a whole lot else still being delivered, apparently.

Here's an update from what sounds like an insider, about the gift card situation a few of you were concerned/affected by when I mentioned it a month or two ago:
"Sears' bankruptcy is not the cause of their gift cards recently having the balance wiped. On about 8/13/19 there was a "glitch" with Sear's system, and all Sears gift cards issued before March 2017 had their balance wiped on 8/13/19. To get a new ecard for the previous balance, call 1-800-549-8151, Sears' corp Gift Card dept. I just called and had the previous balance restored. You will need to have your old gift card."

Also, I finished my Sears Craftsman Modern Manufacturers Reference List last week, for anyone interested who hasn't seen it already. :) (Working on that took up most of my 'Sears time' for a while.)

Some Knipex items reappeared on the website in the past couple weeks, sold by Sears. They had been down to just 2 different Knipex products back around the beginning of December, and I've seen it as high as 45 recently (some have already sold out again since that peak).

And there's another texting coupon now, for those with non-closing stores nearby:
Text JOLLY to 73277 for $10 off $40+ in-store-only at non-closing corporate Sears stores. Ends when the stores close on Christmas Eve 12/24.

amazing they are still viable with so few stores. I guess it's all about the slow real estate liquidation in the guise of operating a "business".

I have been saying that for a few years now. It is almost like ESL is purposely making some stores unprofitable to give him the green light to liquidate and then sell assets. I can say that from an inside source my suspicions were confirmed that many store closings were a result of just not renewing the building lease; once the 15, 20, or 30 years were up the stores went into liquidation mode and see ya!

On a side note, I learned that there is a Sears Grand still open in Colorado. Are there others still out there?

RETAIL
Advance Auto Parts to buy DieHard brand from Sears for $200 million in cash deal
PUBLISHED MON, DEC 23 201910:01 AM ESTUPDATED 8 MIN AGO

@LAURENTHOMAS
KEY POINTS
Advance Auto Parts will be buying DieHard for $200 million, using all cash on hand.
The deal is expected to close Monday.
Sears and Kmart have continued to close stores. This sale will provide it with much-needed cash as it tries to turn around its business.
H/O: DieHard battery
Source: DieHard
Advance Auto Parts is acquiring Sears’ DieHard brand, known for its car batteries, for $200 million in cash, CNBC has learned.

Under a supply agreement, Sears and Kmart owner Transformco will still have the rights to sell some DieHard items in Sears stores, Advance Chief Executive Officer Tom Greco told CNBC in a phone interview. Advance Auto Parts will also give Transformco an “exclusive royalty-free, perpetual license” to develop and market DieHard products in other nonautomotive categories.

The deal also provides Sears and Kmart with much-needed cash. The retailers have been trying to turnaround their businesses since filing for bankruptcy in 2018, but they appear to be facing some of the same struggles they had seen before the Chapter 11 filing. In November, Sears had secured an additional $250 million lifeline from lenders that included Eddie Lampert.

Greco said Advance started to have conversations with Transformco in the middle of this year.

“We have been looking at the [battery] category for a couple of years,” Greco said in a phone interview. “DieHard has the highest brand awareness and regard of any automotive battery brand in North America.”

Even before its bankruptcy, Sears had been trying to sell assets to infuse cash back into its business. It sold its Craftsman tool brand in 2017 to Stanley Black & Decker.

″[W]e have long believed that the [DieHard] brand has even more potential,” Peter Boutros, president of Transformco’s Kenmore, Craftsman and DieHard business unit, said in a statement. “Advance Auto Parts’ acquisition ... will complement our plans to introduce new DieHard products in non-automotive categories such as sporting goods, lawn and garden, authentic work wear and other exciting new categories.”

Lampert, a hedge fund billionaire and former Sears CEO, paid $5.2 billion and promised to save 425 Sears and Kmart stores and roughly 45,000 jobs when he struck a deal to buy the company out of bankruptcy in February.

But the embattled department store chain’s real estate footprint continues to dwindle. In November, the company said it would be closing 96 more Sears and Kmart stores. By early 2020, the entire business will be left with 182 locations.

At the time of Sears’ bankruptcy, there were more than 700 Sears and Kmart stores.

Transformco had recently said it was still exploring ways “to realize a significant return on our extensive portfolio of owned and leased real estate,” which includes logistics business Innovel, Sears Home Services, the Shop Your Way membership program and Kenmore.

For Advance, the deal will help the auto parts retailer grow its portfolio of brands and drive more traffic to its thousands of stores. It hopes to attract people who are loyal to the DieHard brand, which has been around since 1967.

In December 2017, prior to going bankrupt, Sears struck a deal to sell various items from the DieHard brand on Amazon. Greco said that partnership will not be continuing with Advance. But instead, the Advance CEO said his company will be looking to bring DieHard to some of its other retail partners, including Walmart.

Sears also still operates three DieHard stores, but has no plans to open anymore. Advance will be able to decide if they want to keep them open or close them.

Wow, Eddie has been trying to sell all 3 'KCD' brands for years, I thought it was hopeless at this point for anyone wanting the other two. AAP got Diehard at a huge discount, though - this article from close to 3 years ago had stated the value at about a billion apiece ($3b total) for Kenmore, Craftsman, and Diehard. Sears indeed got around $1b for Craftsman.

Well, looks my liquidating store has finally had its online order pickup eligibility turned off. :( It was still working last night but I hadn't been ready to do another order just yet. It lasted 3 weeks longer than it should have, though I only got 2 weeks of use out of it (last order was a week ago).

I see a lot of items back in stock, the impact screwdriver set (the good one- vessel) is back at a higher price as are line clamps (at full price) the 23 piece impact socket set shows in stock but when u go to checkout they say it’s now out of stock.digiclick torque wrenches (1/2) are low on stock but still available, if you try to add more than two to your cart for shipping it says not available. Not sure what’s going on with this. Not available at either of my stores either...
