I know it's not for everyone, but obviously I'm not the only person who thought it would be nice to have some memorabilia from the dying years of a company that helped build America for generations. A lot of the "****" was free. And far too much gets thrown away unnecessarily.

I'd like to have a Sears sign to hang in my garage but I am ok without them. I have little brand loyalty. All I need is to open my tool box and see plenty of tools from Sears.

I think it is fitting as the stores are closing, we are posting memorabilia from these stores. Once everything is closed, we should post pics of our loot

I have seen pictures of those brass plaques on some store buildings, but unfortunately my Sears is too new to have one AFAIK, built in the late 70s-early 80s; I've never spotted one around any of the entrances. There were previous locations downtown that probably had plaques, but they're long-gone.

The 125 Years anniversary signage is pretty cool-looking, though not neon. My store either never got any or never bothered to display it; I haven't found any in the back rooms yet, but there's still a chance. They never bothered to use the 125 Years plastic bags in the appropriate year either, but I know they received those because they'd randomly started using some the last time I made an in-store purchase.

You might be the winner on volume of Sears stuff. (Definitely way more than me!)

Hrm, that is surprising. I know when I tried to do a fixtures-only purchase at my previous nearby store closing last year, attempts to use points would not work at all, I had to buy a normally-sold tool to use any points. Maybe different managers have the fixtures code set up differently in the register. I haven't tried yet at my current store closing, but the last time I got non-free fixtures stuff was some time before my online ordering (for store pickup) got cut off right before Christmas, so all my points were going towards online tool orders till then anyway. I'll give it a shot next time.

There's probably going to be another round of closures some time this month, nothing to report yet though. When they get to your store sooner or later, good luck getting those racks/carts.

Yes, that's one of the ones I have been eyeing. My store also has some pickup signs with the 94-04 logo, alternating with those. All glued to the wall. Was yours screwed or glued? (Or a spare dug up from a back room that had never been used?)

I don’t think the one I have was ever put up. My store only had the one and I don’t recall ever seeing them used in the parking lot.

And about sears signs, something about sears closing is really bothering me so I dont believe I would ever want any sears signs. I've got a lot of good childhood memories going to sears and drooling over tools n such. My parents bought a Hillary tent at sears when I was very young and that was the tent we camped in when I was growing up. All of my tools I currently have were bought from sears.

There was store near my childhood town that got all sorts of returns from stores but their big supplier was sears. I can remember being so excited going there and buying all sorts of craftsman things. Bought a used 2 ton aluminum craftsman jack there in the early 2000's and its still the only floor jack I have and it works great (gets horrible reviews). Think I paid $50 for it.

For whatever reason I was very fascinated with shallow well jet pumps as a kid. Bought a 3/4hp craftsman jet pump the same day I bought that floor jack and I still have it sitting in my garage. Ill use it every now and then to winterize something or whatever.

Our family Sears journey started in the early 1990s. So unlike those with the nostalgia of the 1960s some of the people posting stories about on social media ours was much later. Their business actually was dropping off already by then, and I think they were largely being sustained by the sheer volume of appliances, lawn and garden, tools electronics and auto they sold. Had they done something to simply focus on hardline merchandise then they might have had a different run. I really think the scrapping of the catalog alienated the old catalog based clientele.

Well they started having insane clearance deals. So my dad went there like twice a week without fail. I was literally in there thousands and thousands of times. When he felt like driving around we’d go to other Sears stores. When we were on vacation we would go to every Sears. Of course when I got a job and my drivers license in the late 1990s I did the exact same thing, when I had long breaks in my college classes I’d go to the 3 close by Sears and look for clearance (I got the big 540 piece mechanics set when it was still USA made and had the 3/4 inch set for $499 that way). Once Eddie bought Kmart and merged the two they did the Sears type stuff so I started going there too.

It was fun hunting for deals, and oddities, and I probably was in hundreds of different Sears and Kmart stores. It basically was just years of mostly shopping there so I own mostly Sears stuff. Or course their softer side of Sears push resulted in a lot of clearance clothing. I’ve got a lifetime supply of Craftsman Sherpa and duck jackets.

They sold the last of these around here slightly before Christmas.

If you have time though it’s always worth combing Kmart’s site to see if they have the same item as Sears sold by Kmart for less. There are a few.

I bought that same kit two years ago for under $80. It is pretty decent for an entry-level brushless drill. The only complaint I have is the drill will stall out under heavy loads but I wonder if that is because of the small batteries it comes with.

I'm guessing they did that because they were worried about Dewalt stuff walking off, and they don't have much in the way of security to prevent it. My store had some of the power tools in a locking display case that doesn't have room for a whole lot, and others not in the case had the little beeping spider-wrap things on them, but a) they have a limited number of those that still work at all, and b) even if they do go off, there's nobody left at most stores who can do anything about it.

• After the Nov 6-7, 2019 big-closure-list stores, we were down to 122 remaining corporate Sears and 60 Kmarts (+1 inside the Brooklyn Sears) once those finish liquidating.
• On Nov 20, Beaumont, TX and Bel Air, MD Sears closures were announced, bringing it down to 120 Sears and 60 Kmarts (+1 inside the Brooklyn Sears).
• On Dec 3, Burlington, NC Sears was announced - down to 119 Sears and 60 Kmarts (+1 inside the Brooklyn Sears).
• On Dec ~6-7, someone noticed that the Temple City, CA Kmart is closing (apparently Mar 8, 2020) - down to 119 Sears and 59 Kmarts (+1 inside the Brooklyn Sears).
• On Dec ~11, someone found out by calling the Raleigh, NC Kmart that it will be closing Feb 16, 2020 (or perhaps Feb 14) - down to 119 Sears and 58 Kmarts (+1 inside the Brooklyn Sears).

On Jan 7, 2020, the Richmond, CA and Glendale, CA Sears were 'announced' (leaked out via job postings, no news articles yet) as closing - down to 114 Sears and 58 Kmarts (+1 inside the Brooklyn Sears).

On Jan 8, 2020, the Wind Gap, PA Kmart was announced as closing in mid-March 2020 - down to 114 Sears and 57 Kmarts (+1 inside the Brooklyn Sears) (12 outside mainland US).

Double box end SAE wrenches showed up today, these were slightly newer than the metric, like 3-4 years old. I actually like the assortment on this set, even has a 19/32 which actually fits an old tractor mower deck I have for mounting and dismounting it. In the past I’ve usually used a Metrinch socket, an old snap on socket or a 15mm. I dunno how much use it would have to anyone else but it’s sure easier to fit a wrench in there than use a socket.

Suppose this was worth dumping points on getting the SAE and Metric, I was looking around and it’s actually surprisingly hard to find long handle double box end wrenches that aren’t offset. I hope the hold up, I highly doubt Stanley is going to produce them, even if Sears is around who knows if they’ll have replacements since these are just old sets they had floating around somewhere.

I don’t see this as necessarily bad either. The Great Star stuff is nicely finished. If Sears or the Hometown or some combo survives this might actually be an upgrade from some of the Chinese Apex stuff if you have a warranty exchange.

How recent was this? I was in there a month ago to pick up an order and was surprised at how many tools there were. Many of those tools were in their red holiday-box displays but I have observed those displays being utilized throughout the year at many stores.

On a side note, the Kmart here in Marshall, MI, has just been restocked with a nice selection of hand tools and a significant restock of power tools. It appears that more and more of those tools are from Great Star. I have noticed more screwdrivers in different sizes of packaging and will take notice of what the manufacturer code is. If they are Great Star, I will probably buy a set to see how they are compared to the Apex, Western Forge, and Pratt Reed models I have.

I wish I'd taken a photo of my store's 'hammer wall' back when it was still fully stocked. It's been increasingly empty for a couple years now, and 100% empty now due to liquidation.)

The funny thing is, Great Star actually has multiple factories, capable of producing almost everything that has been discontinued at Sears over the past few years, but Sears hasn't had enough working capital to pay them to make more stuff. They did it right before Christmas. I was there one week and then went back the next and they had changed it. I was surprised they did it during the holiday season.

The shelving where the power tools used to be displayed is all gone, replaced by red holiday displays. Idk what their plan is when those go away. The other rows of tools were widened and one or two rows of shelving are gone.

They moved most of the blowout items to the back clearance area and liquidated them all very quickly. I wasn't happy as I had weekly points coming due and planned to grab a few more things.

I mean I could be wrong though I’m pretty certain of this, those box end wrench sets I just got had mixed date codes all the way back to the old D stamping and were mixed date codes in sealed boxes and were old stock they must have found somewhere. Unless they repacked them and used another vendor to source larger sizes A would very likely be Apex (chinese most likely though there is no indication of where any of the box end wrenches were actually manufactured anywhere). Also the A-AH stamped reversible SAE wrenches I picked up look pretty much identical to Gearwrench. I don’t think I have a pic of those I’d have to fish them out.

They've got a a few of the ultimate assortment kits left I'm somewhat interested in. I don't really need them though..

The mechanics' tool sets always get a larger discount than the rest of the tools, since they're so expensive to start with. But I haven't seen it go better than 60%, maybe if you wait till the very last day it might go to maybe 70%? I was at my second-closest store's closing within a week or two of their last day about a year ago, and the signs at the time were 60% off mechanics' sets and 40% off all other tools.

The largest problem with these sets is the redundancy if you want most of the stuff. If you want the SAE and Metric you end up with two speed spinners and two breaker bars. Ratchets I’m less concerned about having extras or the breaker bar ratchet adapters since they’re kind of uncommon, but speeders especially and extra 3/8 short beaker bars are kinda unnecessary. I can’t figure out why the SAE set has 6 and 12 point deep but the metric doesn’t.

The 104 piece one doesn’t have the deep sockets or the universal sockets (which I think are somewhat less necessary).

If you buy all three you end up with a lot of extra stuff. I mean redeemed previous points deals so I didn’t pay a lot and didn’t care too awfully much since I didn’t know what to spend the points in anyway.

It would have been nice though had they made a set that incorporated most of the stuff as a combined set. Maybe 6 point deeps of both and the wrenches. However at this point having already bought them I don’t care, it is what it is.

I wish they sold the ratchets from these sets separately, I know some people dislike them but I’ve used the 1/4 one for some indoor projects and it’s not too bad.

All the points from the $100 on $100 end in about 3 weeks.

This was actually kind of clever lure everyone in before Christmas with heavy discounting and the $100 on $100. Mark everything most people probably really wanted up to the higher end of its usual sale price (I mean if you want to comb the websites enough there were still good deals). Now people get $25 off some inflated price meaning they’re paying a normalish price if they want to spend the points and they’re forced to go to the store in a relatively dead month. The bulk majority of people probably didn’t have a large number of these points offers hitting back to back so most people will overspend.

Oh you know it! I bought multiples of the bottle openers, pull-saws, impact screwdrivers, 13-inch tool boxes, and other blow-out items. There were many deals to be had that I took advantage of.

Oh you know it! I bought multiples of the bottle openers, pull-saws, impact screwdrivers, 13-inch tool boxes, and other blow-out items. There were many deals to be had that I took advantage of.
