I have gotten on chat and never not gotten free shipping each time by demanding it. Pick a zip in the middle of nowhere if you must it may or may not help. But I’m just firm on demanding it and I get it as a “one time exception” every time. Orders ranging from $4.99 up through $20

So I was in Ace hardware today and I saw craftsman nut drivers, the 7 piece set, identical to those at sears color scheme and packaging wise except they were made in China by SBD (I checked the back). So I assumed these were the “lowes” craftsman version, then I went to Lowe’s website and they sell a craftsman red and black version of nutdriver?

Has anybody noticed this type of thing before in any of the branding? I don’t go into ace too often but had to get some ice melter.

So they’re selling ones that look like this set at Ace as opposed to red and black?

https://www.sears.com/craftsman-7-p...SellerId=Sears&prdNo=2&blockNo=2&blockType=G2

How weird. And when did Sears mark these back to $35? I bought a set for like $16 sometime before thanksgiving when I was still getting the $15 points installments from the summer promo.

Did SBD and Lowe’s work out a license agreement to source certain Craftsman stuff from wherever they got Kobalt from in an interim while SBD builds out the line if they had no immediate comparable product?

Can anyone see if any Sears actually still have this Accucut? None in stock or to ship around here. Amazon is $47.

https://www.sears.com/craftsman-3-i...SellerId=Sears&prdNo=1&blockNo=1&blockType=G1

I was trying to get one of each cutter, I have the Handi Cut and the red handled edge cutter.

Speaking of when I was searching for it...

Look familiar?
https://www.sears.com/craftsman-edg...SellerId=Sears&prdNo=1&blockNo=1&blockType=G1

Amazon has a lot of Master Mechanic branded stuff from Great Star.

Knipex items:
https://www.sears.com/tools/b-10200...ICE_LOW_TO_HIGH&subCatView=true&searsTab=true

If you find them cheaper somewhere else, Sears will price match other major retailers (they always have for me, anyway). Must be the same day as you order.

When I posted about the Knipex stuff reappearing a month or so ago, it had something like 45 items sold by Sears at the time. They continue slowly depleting (37 items now), but it's slow enough that Sears must have gotten the distributor to agree to a little higher cap than last time (last spring, Knipex items were disappearing for months after a single one sold). The remaining items aren't the most exciting Knipex selection they've ever had, but I still see a few I could use.

Since chat is still being generous with free shipping, I guess I'm not out of the game for online orders yet after all. I needed to buy something today, and I've got enough points now that I can get a price-matched Knipex item (and maybe something else too) from the website, instead of picking something not so great from the dregs left in the tools dept at my closing store.

I'm not in the middle of nowhere but I have no stores left for pickup, as is the case for most of the country now, so I doubt your zip code matters much... you'll have to give 'em the real zip code for your shipping address anyway. ;)

Unfortunately, the Sears Android app finally stopped giving out $5/$15s a week or two ago, and it's still dead today. :( IIRC it's hard to use those with chat free shipping anyway (they only want to do one or the other), so I guess it's not a big loss at this point.

Yeah, thems the ones. Gray for metric, clear for standard. Same packaging too except the label is mostly red as opposed to mostly black at Sears. I didn’t think to see if they had a code on the handle.

The price went up some time ago, but they’ve been out of stock since mid December. Last January they put them on clearance for $8.47 for about a week which seemed weird at the time since they were back in stock a few weeks later.

Sears isn’t really selling the knipex, it’s being shipped from an “authorized supplier” out of New Jersey. It’s some kind of tool import company because the shipped my mob peddinghaus last week too. Maybe I’ll look them up.

Weird they had them on clearance. The ones I got are stamped S-AH wonder if Sears switched to Great Star for these as well. They actually aren’t out of stock here and I doubt they’ll sell at the current price, if I remember I’ll check them at Sears and see (unless they’re just leftovers of more of the same). I don’t frequently go to Ace though.

I wonder if they had some system wide clearance glitch last January that no one bothered to fix during the course of bankruptcy as that’s when I got the Extreme Grip set in the bag for $55 or whatever it was that they’re currently selling for $199.

It saying "Sold by Sears" is all I care about, I know it's coming through an AS distributor. :) Point is you can use points.

However, I can't order anything if I can't get the dang chat to load tonight!! I'm about to have to rush to the store before closing time and buy something after all.

Update: Got there just in time and fortunately the last couple packs of scraper blades were still there - cheapest thing left in the tools. Cost $1.25 since they've now gone to 40% off on most tools - was only 30% off last week. An employee said the store's last day is Feb 16, so with that much time left, maaaaybe if there's anything left in tools it will actually make it to 50% by then? (Mechanic's sets and tool storage are 60% off.)

I only had $0.75 expiring today so now I'm safe to try again on the chat order tomorrow. I'll also try to go back to the store with more time to look around at fixtures stuff.

And of course NOW I finally manage to find the magic combination of which browsers/cookies the chat is willing to appear for today.

Have you tried a different browser? I know sometimes safari doesn’t play well but Firefox will.

I was able to get a set of Knipex 8” diagonal cutters using points, but had to have them sent to a Hometown store for pickup in a city I traveled to for business.

You can see the quantities available for some items on SYW. It showed 30 of the cutters available when I first looked, but in under 2 weeks they all got bought. i don’t know why but they were never available anywhere near my zip code for shipping or pickup; maybe physical warehouse location and shipping costs.

Anyway, I’m glad I was able to find something I could use (after putting a small gap in my Wiha’s working on a live circuit).

Last January they put a few things on clearance that I recall, the nut driver set and the magnetic tool board, which came back and is now gone again completely. Those were $6.97[

Another thing I noticed at Ace was they had a ton of craftsman speed squares that were the made in the USA versions. I can’t imagine them selling many of those but they had at least ten on the shelf.

I've been at this a while, and I have about half a dozen different browsers. The problem is the stupid chat interface gets in certain moods and randomly changes which ones it's willing to appear in, or appear in and actually work instead of being stuck in a 'no longer connected' mode. Screwed with it for like half an hour in different combinations before I had to give up and run to the store before it closed. Finally found a working combo after I got back, but didn't want to risk losing the points expiring today if I had let the store close before buying something if it hadn't worked at all tonight. Fortunately my store is less than ten minutes away.

Okay, got the pliers I wanted ordered, https://www.sears.com/knipex-flat-nose-pliers/p-00932204000P PMed to Home Depot $16.64. Didn't have any pliers like that yet. Unfortunately they've taken away chat's ability to give free shipping up-front, I had to place the order (they price-match by giving points for the difference in price) and pay for shipping and then the chat guy could issue a refund to my card. The really weird thing is, Sears's checkout system is programmed to charge tax on the shipping fee! :headshake I've ordered from a lot of different businesses over the years and don't think I've ever seen that before. Supposedly it will all get refunded, but I'd be pissed if I were actually paying that.

Please let us know if the refund actually goes back to your card. Last time I was told that, they credited my SYW account, which went to points, not my card, and I was told they had no way to fix it. I’ve never believed them or tried it since. It would be great if that has become a real option.

I’ve never really looked at tax on shipping fee but interesting to know.

I did have a few refund issues like this and each time has been different. I’ve been credited nearly instantaneously, sometimes it took two weeks, sometimes it was split points and credit. I think it’s just if the person processing the thing knows what they’re doing. I usually have something else already lined up so if it’s a points credit I really don’t care

I remember the magnetic rack but by the time I tried to order one they wouldn’t ship to a store. No store anywhere around here stocked them to begin with and that’s before they closed some of the others.

Speed squares are long gone at Sears so those have been hanging around a while. Great Star makes one so obviously they weren’t a big seller or they probably could have procured more.

I’m gonna comb though Kmart’s site to see if there are any more harder to find on the website blowout things still floating around. I might grab some of the screwdrivers and such for future gifts because I don’t know how much longer this stuff will last. They’ve marked much of the other stuff up back up so these are just outlier items they either really want to get rid of or just missed in the markups. They’ll probably sell out or get marked back up at any time.

Speed squares one of the many things that Great Star makes for other companies, but Sears hasn't had the money to convince GS to make them for Sears. The ones from Sears were always Johnson-made, AFAIK. They switched to China a while back because Johnson has a factory there that has even been making some of the Johnson-branded products.

I wonder why GS keeps supplying them with other stuff to begin with. I mean there’s still like 400+ hometown stores they could plug it the stuff into then just toss them up on the website to order if they had cash.

That aside I ordered a bunch of the $13.94 screwdrivers. You could use the $5 off $50 the 5% credit card and neither voided the $15 back in points deal. Seeing as that Lowe’s wants $25 for a rather similar set I was able to get 5 sets of those, two shirts, and 3 pairs of pants for slightly less than Lowe’s would have been for 4 sets and got $15 back in points which I’ll combine with this week’s sweeps when it hits. I’m currently at $16 and some change so hopefully I can get it up to $20 before the weather takes a turn south later in the week.

Edit: Ultimate Collection/Assortment ratcheting wrenches that were $34.94 or something like that are back up to $59.99.

Edit 2: 32oz Ball Peen hammer is back from the dead https://www.sears.com/craftsman-32-...lerId=SEARS&prdNo=24&blockNo=24&blockType=G24

Edit 3: $15 on $60 is dead now it’s $50 on $400

Despite trying a bunch of different search variations, I never did find any Great Star-related invoices in the bankruptcy paperwork. That means Sears didn't stiff them like all the other vendors, so I suspect GS never gave them the chance to, by requiring Sears pay up-front before GS ships them anything. But Sears has only been able to afford to keep up with that arrangement for a limited number of different products.

Edit: Yep, looks like that's exactly what's going on. Just went to catch up on the last few days of employee forum posts, and happened to see someone said 2 days ago, "Great star just got $10 million from us to fund the spring craftsman line."

New Mexico taxes labor so if you go ship anything UPS, DHL etc there's tax. Being in Colo all my life where labor isn't taxed I just can't get used to it.

OTOH New Mexico taxes groceries at a much lower rate so each state has pluses and minuses and it seems to even out across the board

my last order was mid dec and the rep did both at the same time, with the shipping refund actually showing up in my account before the debit. but with all things sears, ymmv

I’m not sure what agreements there were but other vendors that would take cash that they didn’t use. My assumption is they know that GS is capable of supplying virtually everything they once had and they don’t want to shaft them.

Hopefully it’s more assortment and not more of the same product when they get this stuff in.

Went back to the store this afternoon with more time to look through all the fixtures stuff. Sad news (attn: Jeepster04), someone else found the back-room-behind-another-back-room in the auto dept where the blimps had been near a cabinet full of wheel weights and those wheel weight hammers. All of that stuff was gone now, just empty cabinets. :(

I did find a few more things to get, a lightly-used 48in Empire ruler that they wanted $10 for (based on the liquidation manager hiding in an office and throwing out an arbitrary number when the cashier called him on the phone), but when I showed the cashier the current price at Home Depot was $10.97, they came down to $6. Didn't really need it since I have a couple other long rulers already, but not quite the same. Threw in a handful of other small things free again - some different lanyards that I hadn't found before (red with white 2004-2010 logo, and blue with same logo + some department names), a different pinback button from around the time of the SYW launch in 2009, a couple other odds and ends.

I confirmed that you definitely cannot use points on anything properly rung up under the fixtures code. So the guy who said he was able to buy fixtures stuff at his closing store with points must've either been buying normal merchandise in the same transaction and the points went towards that, or else those cashiers were using the wrong code. :dunno:

And about those long power strips in the fitness equipment area, those were 6ft long, and I found a shorter but similar one today in another part of the store that had a price on it... I think it was about 2ft long, very well-used, and they wanted $15 for it. :wtf: You can spend about that much to get a nicer brand-new one at Home Depot. So I doubt the 6ft one is worth asking about.

I got the same pair awhile back. My main complaint is the ridges/teeth on the jaw are super weak. First time trying to remove a hose clamp and a bunch flattened. Knipex keeps it pretty under-wraps on here and in general online, but no shortage of mechanics that refer to many Knipex products as on the lighter side of duty. I’ve got about 10 pair, so I’ll just use them for easier stuff from now on. My Western Forge USA and later China Craftsman pliers have held up great, with Bremens for the tough stuff.

I’m pretty sure these are USA made. I don’t know if they really stocked them after they switched stuff to China.

Well I, and others I bet, anxiously await to see. If they are USA made, I will be purchasing a set. When do you anticipate your delivery?

If these are the ones I remember I think they’re made by Irwin. Guess we’ll find out soon enough.

There’s always the remote chance they just had great star make them but if it’s like the box wrenches it’s something they had floating around.

They must’ve found a pallet of them, I kept adding them to my cart until I got to 84 last night and did not get the “we don’t have that many in stock” message. Or, as you said, it’s an alternate vendor. When they get low on stock you can add one or two but then the message triggers, but you can make multiple purchases, it will just limit it to one or two or even three.

So my guess is there’s no shortage of these.

And no, I didn’t buy any (let alone 84) :)

All of that stuff was gone now, just empty cabinets. :(

No worries, thanks for checking!

I’m guessing this stuff is all from that Florida warehouse they are closing.

SYW shows quantities available for most items. For these flip sockets it shows 234.

The lug nut sockets arrived today. No other packaging, but they are clearly marked USA.
