Figured I'd join in with the listing.

I have:
3/8 SAE Flex Socket: 3/8, 7/16,1/2,9/16,5/8,11/16
3/8 Metric Flex Socket: 11, 17, 18, 19

I'd trade

1/4: 1/2" Flex Socket
3/4: 1" Socket

For any 3/8" flex I don't have in the first list, which I think were 3/4", 12mm and 16mm.

Don't know if this would work or not, but what if you went to Sears and ordered online the sockets that are on sale got free shipping to the store? Think they would do all that and still only be .97? Can you order a marked down item? I might try it tomorrow and let ya'll know. If it does work it would eliminate alot of searching around by everybody.

Given that they are on clearance may mean the store inventories are all that is left of these.

Might be, but two things make me question that.

1: Someone posted earlier on this thread that they talked to a DM that happened to be in the store and was told that within the next week or so more items were to be marked down as well. not the same sizes though is my impression, maybe kind of like a revolving item policy, don't know why though.

And 2: That may be all they have left right now, but I have bought many of the Craftsman Professional Series screwdrivers/Torq's drivers that were marked down and after seeing the shelves emptied of them gone back the next week to find them freshley restocked, albeit back at regular price.

I'm thinking this might just be to drive sales, but who knows?

It's definitely worth a shot. I know it won't work if you try to do it yourself online as you would be a private consumer trying to purchase an item.

But maybe with a Manager override there at the cash register to do a price match and ship to the store it MIGHT work. Or it might not. I work long hours tomorrow so if someone wants to try and beat me to it trying this please do. But also see if it can be done with the larger GW's I can't seem to find them anywhere for that price. Checked three mall SEARS and two locals, no luck.

I just went to a Sears Hardware and nothing was on clearance. I had to have a guy open the case because everything was in lockup, nothing listed above rang .97 I only had him check maybe 5 items as he seemed somewhat irritated.

He said it might only be stores that are closing that have open stock on clearance?

I went to a Sears Hardware in Shelton today and they did not have anything on sale for $.97, but they did have a few other things 50% off which I picked up. Disappointed as I was hoping to finish my set. I have a major issue with an incomplete set.

It's not just the ones closing. I talked with the guy from my local one, all mine are safe so far, plus they're in malls, so they've got the clothes and everything else.

Well Warmpancakes didn't clear out the Novi store entirely. My score for the day:

1/4" Drive
Hex / Allen
7/32
5/16
3/8

12 mm flex socket
13 mm flex socket

9/16 flex socket

3/8" drive
Flex sockets
3/8
7/16
1/2
11/16

Flat Blade
7/32
9/32
3/8

The flare nut wrenches all rang up at full price

I'll trade any of the above 1/4" drive or screwdriver bits to round out the missing 3/8" SAE flex sockets.

LOL. I had to run out of town for business today and stopped by an adjacent city's Sears to see what was up. Lots of empty hang pegs with the 97 cent yellow clearence stickers at the peg in the tool section adn socket and wrench section. Damn. Empty.

Everything was cleaned out. I wandered around back in electrical and then cut thru paint to head out only to have this big rack of yellow tags catch my eye. I guess that store pulled all the clearaence stuff off the main section and hung it on a dedicated square portable slat wall display from the jewelry dept. way off in the corner. LOL. Wrenches, sockets, bits and teh 3/4" stuff all present and 97 cents. Needless to say it's fun when $20 spent nets you $75 to $100 in tools.
Woo hoo.

i went to 3 sears today found a few odd pieces at the first, nothing at the second and was about to give up at the third as everything that was marked clearance was sold out. I was about to leave as i couldn't find anyone to help as all their sockets were locked up but I eventually did and had him scan all of the 3/4 drive sockets and all of the flex sockets in 1/4 and 3/8 drives. The associate was shocked and started grabbing some for himself as well. I got everything pictured for 44.00. I pretty much cleaned them out of what was left. I want to trade most of this. I have no use for the 3/4 drive sockets and I bought extras of everything. I was only able to find one or 2 metric flex sockets so that's mainly what i'm looking for and whatever sae flex sockets not listed below. I'd also be interested in ratcheting wrenches.

3/4 drive
qty size
(3) 15/16
(3) 7/8
(3) 1 inch
(1) 1 1/16
(2) 2 3/16

I managed to score a few flex sockets tonight. I'd really like a 3/8" drive 1/2" flex socket if anyone picked up an extra.

No luck with the flare wrenches or 3/4" drive stuff. This store had just marked it all down this morning and had pulled it to a small rack by the register.

LOL. Yep, the 3/4" big boy sockets are $29.99 new a piece and were scanning for 97 cents.

I think someone at Sears Corporate really f*&ked up the computer tagging systems as I see no reason in hell the prices are thet low.

Flea markets and summer auto swap meets are where to get your trading on. Trust me.

Ask and you shall receive. Afaik, there are no 1/2"drive sockets over 30mm or 1-1/8" on clearance so I just included the 3/4"dr stuff from the first post.

posaune, don't forget the 8 point (double square) chrome shorty sockets are for 97 cents as well. 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 drives.

I picked up one of each of what they had, but I;ll never know where to use them . They were various sized drives but all SAE of course. No metric in the square bolts. :)

Have hit two local Sears in the past couple of days looking for these sockets. I also picked up this rolling tools chest - "Discontinued" - bottom was $81 middle was $29 and top box was $35. I thought I got lucky . . .

It's not the ball bearing model, but for $145 NEW I couldn't pass it up - I think they list for about $375? They still had identical red and black versions in the store.

Today as I hit the two Sears again I noticed one in EACH of the stores - so obviously these are out there right now. Even though they are worth the money I doubt I could get my money back on CList or in a garage sale . . .so I left them. Ask about htese if you need an inexpensive box - I am sure they'll be gone by the weekend!:D

BTW the stores I checked were Crystal Lake, IL and Spring hill Mall (Dundee) IL . . .

I had the 8pts in the first post but I wasn't sure about them. I picked up a couple today and you reminded me that I need to edit the post. I got 3/8"dr but didn't know there were others- maybe I have some more lookin' to do.

So... on a related note... no metric 8pts? Is that true? I know that Sears doesn't sell them but do they not exist? I only ask because I bought a [larger] set in the hopes of using one on a square Volvo drain plug but none worked. I assumed it was metric.

Here are my updates for toady. I went back and picked up a few extras of what they had left. Strangely, the 12mm 3/8 flex drive was on sale today but was not yesterday. See pics below.

Here is what I got today:

I may trade the 3/4" drive sockets, but I am not sure yet. Let me know if you need some sockets that I have in my trade pictures.

I use 9/16" 8pt drive socket on the rear axle on MX5/Miata's to do the rear end square drain plug or fill plug per the factory manuals.

I know that Sears lists no metric 8 pts anywhere in any catalog. Nor does Snap-On. All inch.

Hmmmmmm.

Theya re just not big sellers except for sq. drive plugs or old machinery.

This was a long time ago (before the bad influence of GJ and tool hoarding ). Maybe I just didn't have the right size at the time. Unfortunately I sold the car a couple weeks ago or I'd go out and check.

LOL.

Depends on what series Volvo.

I've owned both the 740 and 940 series and I know both use a 1" socket or wrench to remove the oil drain plug.

Swedish car yet SAE/imperial bolt head. Thus why the criss/cross does not surprise.

I've got most of the older 740/940/V70 factory printed Green Books in 3 ring binder files in the office so I'll take a look to see the size. Volvo's often are on thier own agenda.

Ahh, but isn't that drain plug actually a 25mm?

This was a '76 240 diff fill plug. It had square for trans drain and fill too but I don't remember what I used for that (probably a wrench).

Let's make a deal

I am missing the following:

Flare wrenches:

13-14, 19-21, 1/4-5/16, 3/8-7/16

1/4 Flex
3/16, 5/16, 11/32, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11

3/8 Flex
10, 13, 14, 15

If you can fill in those blanks (or most of them)

I will trade you all 7 of the 3/4 sockets (shipping incl)

(if you think it's too one sided, i.e. 18 items for 7, i was just going by retail and shipping weight to balance it out... if you think I have to add some cash let me know)

7/8" (x2)
15/16" (x2)
1"
1 1/16"

Went to two local sears. One of them didn't have anything. The other had a small .97 cent rack. It was mainly picked through, and there was only 1 flex socket left which was a 3/8 6pt 11mm. Other than that there were a few SAE regular sockets, but none of that interested me. There was also a flat head screwdriver 3/8 socket which I picked up as well. I was hoping to return home with a little more than 2 sockets but oh well.
