I checked Ashland Ky sears this morning and the lady there said all the stuff went on sale this morning, and that a guy had came in and bought ever single item on clearance and that his total was almost $175 because they had restocked last night.
Didn't someone on this thread recently go to that store and let us all know that nothing was on clearance there? Mmmmm, I wonder.

x2, this would be perfect for my buddys little brother...

I can look it up and post on Sat.
The more I thought about this - I'm going to go back and buy the bottom cabinet if they have it. That would be two of these for $160 and would make a great base for my workbench. I realize they are not beefy, but they look good and I'm a hobbyist - should work great until I can afford something better.

I didn't see anyone point this out in the thread yet, but the most hilarious part of this whole exercise is how unorganized, uninformed and inconsistent each of the Sears stores are in this clearance. Some have great big signs and the items were scooped up immediately. Some don't have any of the items marked (or pulled) and the clerks don't know (even though the computer is ringing them at $0.97).

It's not like this is complicated. I worked in training for a restaurant chain with 450 stores and when we would change and item it was laid out very clearly: 1. stop ordering the item 2. pull all of the item by x date 3. change menu board by opening on x date . . .etc.

The fact that they can't get every store to pull 2 dozen discontinued sockets, tag them and put them on the clearance rack (this whole process should take one clerk 1 hour) is more data about why Sears is struggling.:willy_nil

Oh yeah. It is amazing. It is also amazing how little the workers care. I've bought clearance things in three or four Sears and two of those I've been to more than once. I thought for sure that as soon as I bought something for such a standout price (a $30 socket for $.97, for example!), they'd check everything for their errors. Nope. No change.

I have a hard time imagining that for a couple reasons: 1) it is strange to me that they have so little interest in the products that they sell that they don't want to buy it even for under a dollar and 2) I'm amazed that they care so little about their job that they won't bother to see why thing are marked up to 30 times higher than their real price.

I worked for a CD store for a couple years and if anything rang up a different price than what it was marked, I'd go through everything from that label or distributor as soon as possible to make sure I caught any other inconsistencies.

Oh well - we might as well take advantage of it while we can.

I took advantage of the recent sales and picked up the 3 piece 60 tooth thin profile ratchet set.

The set was on sale for 89 but the Craftsman Club sale price was 49. I used a $10 off of $50 coupon on top of that and got the set of three for $39! I picked up a small $2 spark plug gapper to get the total over $50.

I also picked up the 1/2" Craftsman 19.2-Volt Impact Wrench Kit which comes with one NiCad battery and charger for $78 by ordering online and picking up in the store. It was on sale for $89 via the Craftsman club discount and I believe the online coupon code I used was SEARS2012

Pretty awesome deals! I had been eyeing those ratchets and impact for a few months so glad I got them at a good price. Haven't used either too much but the ratchets work smooth and the impact was easily able to take off/on a set of wheels.

At all the Sears I went to the 10,13, mm 3/8 flex sockets. Were not on clearance. I was tempted tonite the complete 8 piece flex sets because they are still a good deL at 50 percent off.

Yes they did but that say member also said that the clerk there stated they were going to restock the shelf's. I took the chance to go and check again and everything was on clearance but someone had bought it all in one trip. What is the issue here?

Just to let you guys know my local sears also had the Gearwrenchs on clearance. They started out with the big sizes like 7/8 and bigger. A few days later they had other smaller sizes available for $1.97 but as usual I missed them all. If someone on here happens to find this deal going on I am very interested in these wrenches. Please if you can get these wrenches get some extras for me and maybe we can work out a deal/trade. This was only at one sears store I stopped at but maybe it will be happening soon at others. I am mainly interested in the 7/8 and larger sizes. BTW it was the open stock single wrenches that they usually have locked up. Its worth a shot to check. Good Luck

Looks like they are also clearing out all of their ToughBuilt items - they had everything on an endcap and I picked up two of these for $7.50 each, normally $39. They are still $35 online. Also got the clip on tape measure holder for $1 and change. Manager who rang me up said they were getting rid of all of these items. The big tool bags were not marked down yet but he said they will be.

I don't need these . . .but Ihave a problem with clearance items.Kinda like stray dogs, feel like I should give them a better home LOL.

I'm not going to post these for sale and try to get $30 for something I paid $8 for - anyone want to trade for something?

What store was that? The ones I checked here in CT didn't have anything on clearance but that was a few days ago...

This whole $0.97 socket clearance was a scheme master minded by Sears execs in an attempt to get me to purchase a new $3K lawn tractor with all the attachments.:willy_nil

I stopped in the Sears in Orange, CA on my way home today, socket area looked picked over, but I was able to get the last three flare wrenches and a handful of SAE universal sockets. Worth my stopping, but not really for the next person as I only left a couple duplicates, with the rest not scanning as clearance.

Salesguy was helpful, but didn't see anything special about clearance vs sale prices.

SAE universals 3/8 to 11/16 all 3/8 drive.
Hex allen sockets 7/32 to 3/8 in 1/4 drive
Flares, 3/4 x 7/8, 5/8 x 11/16, and 9mm x 11mm all made in China.

I don't think I will bother checking another store unless I end up in the area, or the sale items expand.

just for grins, i stopped by the kmart near here, which was a sears, which was a kmart.
they did have a decent tool inventory when they converted back to being a kmart.
now, they radically downsized the tool dept. very limited selection. mostly of sets.

I stopped by my local Sears yesterday. Probably half of the socket rack was on the sale. I picked some up even though I didn't really need them. They all had pink stickers on them. Most of the popular sizes were gone.

None of the wrenches appeared to be on sale.

OK, didn't see a lot of chatter for the tool chest photo I posted earlier (?hello: toolchest?) but I stopped by my Sears again tonight "just to check something" and they had FOUR of the intermediate 2 drawer chests - 2 black, 2 grey (hell two were still in the unopened cardboard boxes) marked down to $24! These are the cheapo "easy-glide" - not the ball bearing - but they were *new* not scratch&dent with keys and lock bars, info sheet, etc. The manager told me that everything that wasn't at least ball-bearing was discontinued.

C'mon - two of these middle chests for $49.94 NIB? I probably shouldn't have left the other two.:willy_nil

Check them out - I have seen these at three Sears now - my guess is they will go quick. I know I know, they are crappy opposites of a $5K Snap On bux, but if there are people out there who want a *new* box to organize tools in on a budget, get moving!

My haul:
one bottom 5 chest roller - grey
THREE middle 2 drawer chest - grey
one top chest 7 drawer - grey
Total:$195!:eyecrazy:

BTW they also (still) had some of the 3/4" sockets unmarked - so I had them check the price at the register - sure enough the "$29.99" sockets rang at $0.97 (the clerk turned white). So I took what they had: 2x 21/4", 2x 2 3/8", and a 2 3/16 for a total of $4.85.

And no, I am not going to sell them at cost.

Don't be afraid to ask:shocking:

The 7 piece flex socket sets were on sale and were around $30 at my store. Its funny the lady at the counter saw all the flex sockets I put on the counter and she said "We have complete sets of these on sale if you would like to save some money". I laughed and said these are a buck a piece and the sockets in the set is about 4 bucks each.

For about 40 dollars I got the 7 piece for 30 dollar along with the 18 and 16 for .97 cent at sears, and the 14 at sears hardware for 4.88. So now I have a complete set of the flex head for around 40 dollars with tax.

Only certain sized are .97 cent, others are 4.88 and the 7 piece set is 30 buck. I had to go to 3 sears to get the 10 metric piece set completed today.

How did you get the 10 piece metric completed today? When I was last at Sears the 10mm, 13, 14 & 15mm were all not on clearance yet. Have they been put on clearance since 2 days ago?

Are you guys finding any 1/2" drive sockets on sale?

No I got the 3/8 drive set.

The set of 7 had 10,11,12,13,15,17,19. And the guy at the sears I go to is always very helpful. They had a 18mm in stock, and call 2 other stores to track down the 14 and 16mm for me. It was pretty painless, just had to drive to 2 other sears after work.

And some loose sized where not on sale he told me, only about 5 sizes were at 97 and 4.88.

i'm not into selling and this will be my last attempt at a trade.... (someone on here wanted to trade so i sent two emails to confirm before i made the trip to sears to pick up the set of 3/4 sockets, and...well i'm making this post aren't i)

hence given the above, i'll try this one more time... otherwise my neighbor is the lucky recipient.

I am missing the following 3/8 swivels
10, 13, 14, 15

and the following 1/4 swivels
5-11

i have the 7 3/4 drive sockets

47771 7/8
47772 15/16
47773 1
47774 1 1/16

47791 2 3/16
47792 2 1/4
47793 2 3/8

If you have the swivel sockets (or most of them) and want to trade... let me know

allot of the great deals stuff are gone already. The sears guy told me, when they put up the clearance items that were super cheap. They sold super fast. The store I was at had maybe 15 sockets at .97 cent left mostly SAE and all the clearance boxes were sold. But you may get lucky if you live in a more rural area with less people attacking the sears to buy stuff to resell on ebay.

I think my Sears closed out those tool boxes a month or two ago. One day I was in there a ton of them were in the clearance pile. I don't remember prices, but they were cheap.

If anybody needs only a couple of the swivel sockets PM me and I will see if I have what you need. I have a few extras here that I can send to you at cost. I don't have any of the sizes that haven't already been listed as clearance (10, 13, 14mm etc).

Sears hardware is not part of the .97 cent socket clearance. But they have things at 4.88.

The sears I was at allot of the I beam wrenches on clearance but they were like 50 dollars.

So..... to translate this for those that speak English, the Sears mark down on the C'man metric flex head socket set is not what is in the catalog, which offers all 10 pieces from 10mm to 19mm, but instead it is a "**** tease"
7 piece set with 3 missing pieces and $26 for the 7 on mark down.
If you are savvy you can get many on markdown and fill in the rest or if really good can find them all by trading but its not an easy buy.

For those that fail, the 3 fill in's are $8.49 a piece which gets you back to teh $50 price tag of the orginal 10 piece set. (3x $9 with tax= $27 + the $26 sale price of the set of 7.)

Hmmmm......

Thank you for playing.

Now please turn in your weapons .

The Mgmt.

You pretty much translated the numbers for them. But you do not need to pay full price for the fill in sockets completely. Sears Hardware has them for 4.88 and they did not get cleaned out like the full stores being 5x more then the .97 cent.
