Pleasantly surprised to see I had a visit from the electric co-op fairy.

Now more of the project that doesn’t end…or the more you do something the more you learn.
Let’s lay cable.
Got sand to bed the cable, the cable

Cut back roots

Cable laid out and started in the conduit

And installed

A little back fill to deterrent cable thief.
Wait, why don’t I have enough of a cable end to connect to meter. 🤬

sand always gets in when laying the pipe outdoors......

I always thought trenching in sand would be so easy, I kept telling myself that the hundredth time I went back to retrench for all of the cave ins.

I did use Dawn in the conduit but only 6’ of 134’ is in conduit. The rest is direct bury in native sand and clean sand. Digging in our sandy soil isn’t to bad until you hit the basketball size chunk of clay or a 5” thick root.

Slow and steady progress.
Rain is slowly filling in trench.

Pulled out the football chunks of clay and the sticks then backfilled to the 12” depth so I can place the warning tape.
Saturday morning was gremlin day. I used the trailer as a bench to cut some conduit. I just cut a 50” piece, turned around for a second and it disappeared.

Looked all over, started cussing and decided to cut another piece. Somehow I looked at the back of the trailer and….🤔 Followed this up with dropping screws and drill, breaking bits and knocking over a full tray of conduit clamps.
Took around 4 hours to hang a light and installed 14’ of conduit with a box on each end. Did I mention gremlins?

Luckily after lunch the mirror image of the same took about an hour. If only I knew someone with an order picker. No climbing ladders or scaffolding.
Sunday the final install of panel happened and tonight finished the wiring for the lights and installed an outlet box.

Ground rods! The hammer drill with the driver adapter made quick work.
IMG_9073.jpeg
First one I was able to reach the top because rod started in the trench. Second one I had to use a safety stool.
IMG_9074.jpeg
To make the 90° for the 4/0 cables going inside to the panel, I used my staple gun. No marring or cuts to sheathing. 👍IMG_9075.jpeg
Friday I requested the trench inspection and took off Friday afternoon so I could be here. No show. 🤔
While waiting I tried a second attempt at getting the left hot hooked to the panel lug. First time, cable was short.
IMG_9131.jpeg
Cable was long enough but couldn’t get it bent the right way to go into lug. Ended the day with two failed attempts.

Forgot, this week was insulation. Closed cell 2” ceiling, 1” walls. Glad I checked up on them after the first day, a little on the thin side. Probably 1/2-3/4 on both.
Sent this to the boss. Even at 1” the ribs shouldn’t be that visible.
IMG_9103.jpeg
The second day they added to the first coat and finished the other half. Made up a quick gauge and only found one low spot that was just under 1”. Another oops was the open outlet boxes guess they have never seen one.
IMG_9165.jpeg
One was completely covered with extra foam.
IMG_9158.jpeg The boss will get these pics tomorrow.

Today was third attempt at the hot leg. Last night I thought the ability to spring the cable was needed. IMG_9150.jpeg
Eureka. Hopefully I can rough electric signed off and get power hooked up.
I had a lip at the end of the parking apron and with all the Chevy power, didn’t want to end up in the building so a little fill and grade.

Much smoother backing up. 👍

did they require a bond on your slab rebar? I had to chisel into my wall to attach the rebar to a ground rod before they would pass my power install. I had a meter and I am in Hillsborough County, so maybe it is different. insulation looks good except where it doesn't :) I am surprised they did that to your outlet boxes, I wonder if they are supposed to mask or something.
