guess i can post these here, not really a "custom" handle but i removed the handle to make "custom stubbies". i didnt want to buy another set of ratchets with all the ones i already have, so i took a set of them and cut them down and rounded the ends.

I love the way they turned out and i can't wait to use them!!!!

First time in this thread and I love it. I'm really interested in the Snap-On hard handle conversions.

Can someone post part numbers for Snap-On hard handles that you guys have been using to fit their respective 1/2", 3/8" and 1/2" ratchets?

Jokes......oh man I didn't even notice that when u was grinding them. Wish I had a lathe. Would look a lot nicer. Might have to reshape them into a more rounded end

I am kinda proud of my second attempt!

21/64" drill bit for the bore
P1 screwdriver handle
Put the ratchet in the freezer for about 2-hours
Put the new handle in boiling water for 90 seconds
Push the handle onto the ratchet
Presto!

kobalt roto red.jpg

I now have a custom Kobalt 1/4"-drive Roto Ratchet with red hard handle.

I think I might make the 3/8"-drive have a blue handle...

Thanks for the instructions and the inspiration. I never would have tried this on my own.

Anyone thought about replacing the handle on the bahco (8150, 7750, 6950) 80 tooth for a snap on on handle? The handles are more flat then round, leading me to think the steel underneath is flat?

Question to the SO Hard Handle guru's...how much clearance/interferance are you guys using when doing them? Sure they go tight, but I dont want to go so tight I split the handle when I put it on.

I wonderin how that plasti dip **** works.... sure would like to make my work as well shop ratchets a wee bit different as to know they are mine!

From my experience on 2 pairs of pliers and 3 ratchets...
Pros:
Good tear resistance .
It is relatively easy to apply and when layered thickly feels good for grip.
You can mix lots of different colors.
Cons:
It is not very abrasion resisitant. It does not stand up to penetrating oils at all.

I went 1/16" smaller in diameter at the tip of the standard snap on non handle ratchet end since it is smaller then drilled the full depth to insure the end was secure inside the handle.
Then 1/16" smaller at widest point where the handle would be stopping on the ratchet then drilled the 2nd depth to insure full contact inside of handle also

If you boil the handle in water for 7 minutes or so it will slip right on.
Cooled it off real good with an Air nozzle and water, Then waited 24 hrs to mess with or use it.

Got bored tonight...started with this matco 1/4 locking flex. These are my favorite ratchets, I have 2 1/4 dr, a 3/8 dr, and the big daddy 24" 1/2 dr. The handle on this one was pretty beat up
and i've always wanted a hard handled snap on ratchet. And I just happen to have this laying around(my first pearl blue).
So I came up with this :rocker:
Now i just gotta figure out what to do with the shank, never knew snap on had their shanks stamped

So with all the matco SO handled ratchets; what do we call them. My vote is unholy love child:evil: but I think the forum could come up with something funnier.

My first attempt

IMG_20130619_215726_zpsb465bd1d.jpg

Sorry for the bad pic. That was just after i got it done. Handle is hacked up a bit as i didnt know how to get it off. Now i see for the next time ill try the two pry bar method with a washer.

Doh

Its a mac xr11. With an undentifiable handle. Because im ashamed at what i put on a mac handle. But man is it comfy.

Man, I feel like a doofus. Just tried the washer and two pray bars trick, wow. Came right off. Now I got two more handles to drill once I go to bed and wake up. Lot better then what I did earlier...

Sure is. Man you have a good eye! Had to go out and check. Its barely readable but it says power Kraft 4903-6.

Why ya ask?

Just wondering, it looked exactly like the handle of one of my old man's Powr-Krafts that somehow wound up in my toolbox several years ago.

Right on. The ratchet is a blue point for anyone who may not know. Its my favorite 1/4 ratchet even before the handle. Because of the fine tooth and has absolutely no lag. You can start bolts with it almost and it'll ratchet. Only thing I hated about it was the knurling on how small it went. And it wasn't long enough for me. Now thanks to this thread, both are fixed.

This thread got me started.
Top is an Ace RHFT, in a Masterforce.
Next are KD RHFT, one in a Klein, the other in a Lenox.
4th is obviously a Cman.
Bottom is an Ace Professional / Cman. (Rat shifted during epoxy set)
None of the rats were adulterated. The Cman rat, the driver handle was drilled, chiseled, and filed. The rubber handles are the most comfortable. Whatever plastic the chinese used on the Lenox handle is kinda brittle (I cracked 1 handle).
