Lonestar: Nice find. I know the nice arbor presses don’t come up often. I watched Facebook and Craigslist for about 8 months before I found one for a price that I wanted to pay.

Nice find Lonestar, was looking into a similar mod for mine, trying to see what people did.
Here is my project, all done
I wish it wasn't missing the ratcheting assembly
The solid steel lever is NICE!! Made from 1144, it is 7/8" diameter and 32" long. Both ends are drilled and tapped 1/2-20, about 1-1/2" deep

Not sure yet what the plan is for it......want to learn more about the press
No 3 means 3 ton?
Why Is it a Greenerd labeled "Armature"? As in the coils in an electric motor?

Yes, 3 ton with that handle config. And yes to give more clearance / arbor diameter for pressing bearings off of armature shafts, which can sometimes be very close to the windings, windings being large in diameter. I think you will find it a bit cumbersome compared to a standard press table. But servicable, especially for the home shop.

I have an old 1942 Greenerd catalog. And it states that their armature presses were intended for "Electrical Repairmen". The catalog picture shows the word "ARMATURE" w/ the E, on the casting.
ram had a hole drilled in it with a grub screw. I couldn't find any evidence that Dakes ever came this way?
...
Picked this one up yesterday.

That’s a beast! Nice find

I've been looking for a small arbor press off and on for the past year. In last weeks search I found this press that, while small, was just too nice to pass up. had to freshen up the blueing and remove a bit of rust but was in really good shape.
The ram is a dovetail with the rack cut into the flat and the base was hand scraped, though quite a bit of wear since then. The base is 3" by 4"

Nice looking press.
Thank you for sharing.
I'm new to presses (and this forum) and I've just bought a similar-looking BTG No2.
- Do you know what BTG means and where they were made?
- Does the No1 mean that it's one tonne capacity?

Here's mine. Auction find from a while back. Came from Amstore,
That is an awesome piece of equipment there DR
Holy smokes. I've never seen one broke across the back. That would not be my first guess for breakage. Bummer about it being junk.![]()
I could be wrong, but that doesn't look like a break, looks more like a high water mark?
I think he's more concerned about the trashed rack and pinion?
Kevin
Correct. I started electrolyzing just the head, then bought a 35 gal trash barrel. The casting is fine. The rack and pinion are thrashed. The pinion has one tooth gone, and the ones one either side are very thin. I am a feared there’s no coming back. Though the PO has another with a broken head casting that I hope to buy.
Got this Greenerd from a local company; price was right since I only had to transport it. Excellent condition once I got it apart. I used a roller for the lettering as my freehand leaves a lot to be desired.
I've been looking for a plate for it but they are hard to find.
