Nice job on the Delta 17. I'd suggest that you find some cast belt covers and the period correct Delta motor for it. They are fantastic machines.
Thanks! Any idea where I would go about finding a vintage motor? I would imagine that shipping would be prohibitive. And the cast belt cover, anyone got a spare laying around?
Wow Jason, great score. Don't often see a head raiser and table raiser on the same machine. Is the motor missing the cap, or is it a 3 phase motor? If 3 phase, consider adding a VFD. PM me your address and I'll send you the missing nuts and special washer for the depth stop.
Thanks Jim! I haven't dug into this thing just yet. Seems that you have a keen eye to notice the missing washer and nuts for the depth stop! I'll shoot you a PM when I'm back at the house.
The motor is a newer Dayton. It's single phase and I think something like 1725rpm. It's missing the start capacitor off the motor, but the motor does spin if you put some power to it and give it a push.
A period correct motor would be the way to go, for sure, but I'm not holding out hope to find one local.
The toggle power switch on the side of the machine is for the press and it's not wired up.
The head riser is there, but the piece at the very top that looks like a C, is actually broken off. I'm going to try to clean it up and weld it back together. Someone on another thread mentioned that the head riser is actually installed upside down, and after looking at some other Delta presses, I see what he means.
I'd be interested in looking into a VFD for it, but I'm "ball'n on a budget" so to speak...
It's going to need lots of love, that's for sure.
