I wonder if they avoided import fees by shipping without the blade, and adding a local blade before sale.
I also have a Simpsons sears branded #110 block plane with the same configuration, USA base and made in Canada iron, so that's possible. Stanley had a factory in Canada, so it's possible that parts were shuttled back and forth across the border. Simpsons Sears was the name of sears catalogue business in Canada from sometime in the 1950's to about 1978I wonder if they avoided import fees by shipping without the blade, and adding a local blade before sale.
A package arrived today with a (one day) beautiful plane. And a buck bros chisel. I’m excited. Already bought the japanning product. The second was bought last month at an estate sale, in rusty condition, paint all over the sole, dull.

I had never seen a #100 plane in person, i had no idea what it really looked like. The package was rather small, i wondered if the plane had been disassembled for shipping. I opend the box and the first thing out was the generic plastic handled buck chisel … that filled half the box so i started getting confused. Then the plane came out. It’s so cute! Ok that was sarcasm. It’s a nice tool, and for those who have no idea … this is how big it is …

How irresponsible. This never happens to me. I wish. Then the pieces got separated and buried on the bench. Unfortunately, so much time had passed that I forgot how it went together.

Walked into the Restore ns saw it sitting with a bunch of other planes in a carboard box. They knew it was something, but not what the real value was. Same with the #2. They knew the #48 was worth about what I paid, same with a #71 I left behind, as I already have one. It was kinda weird, as they used to put things they bothered to look up the prices of up front, but not these. I went back yesterday, too see if any more surfaced, and there was nothing left in the way of planes at all.The #10C, a good catch? I‘d say it was a GREAT catch! Those are rare to find in the wild. What’s the story be behind It?

100 1/2 + 100 1/2 = 201I had two 100s, does that make me 1/2 way there?
Me too. Must be a homemade addition. The plane is designed for use with one hand. I don't know how that pipe would help things--unless you had hands like Andre the Giant. At first, I saw the pipe, and I assumed it was just to hold it upright for the pic.
It was certainly homemade, but was done quite well. I might have found it easier to use with the pipe addition because of my arthritic thumbs and it may have been such an accommodation for the deceased previous owner.Must be a homemade addition.
That added 'handle" is something I've never seen on one of those before.Stanley 100 1/2 "Squirrel Tail" as found, after "disassembly" and after very modest cleaning.
Done - let's see how many people yell at me for resurrecting a thread that oldCommonly known as a drawknife, this is probably the more active thread than this one, which predates my time here.
Bring it back to life, I can toss some in there too.
