HellaFab- outstanding work! Is that turbo header for a Miata? Looks like a Mazda engine that took some prior abuse due to part of the block missing. I'm assuming you just use it for mock up...

A couple of things I've been doing recently.

One of my favourites is that for a job, I'm teaching an autistic teenager how to weld, fab, design, build and create a motorized go-kart. This is a kid who before I walked in the door, had never even touched a welder. Now he's doing jobs for his dad (they're a farm family), he's repaired steel gates (pig pen gates), made a hay feeder, and just recently we worked on their trailer and ground, prepped and welded on new trailer light brackets. He's learned how to bend and notch tube, visualize (a big problem with autistic kids), and learn how to follow through.

And so far, we've created this:

(the steering wheel is just a scrap Jeep one that we used for mock up)

And I always insist he remembers: almost nothing that could have been built was store bought. We built the axle, the inner Cs, the spindles, the steering, the tie rods, pitman arm, designed the frame from scratch on a piece of plywood and duct tape.

Sorry, damn ninjas cutting onions, I just think it's an awesome project that his parents have been able to support him in doing and learning. Lots left to go, but it wouldn't be a project if it was done, right? :3gears:

I just do repair welding... No cool fab projects to show off these days

Same here. I welded a hood latch that **** the bed when a co-worker closed the hood after doing unrelated repairs The end that holds the end of the cable snapped off. Tacked it back together and saved the day

The other day some idiot snapped off one of the thimbles on the brake lathe and another one couldn't be sourced from the company that makes the lathe for awhile so I welded a bolt to the shaft to make it work and get us by.

Love my welder

Very nice stuff in here!!!

This is a setup I put together for my project car, a 57 Eldorado Brougham. It's getting a twin turbo LSA engine and I wanted to build an induction that looked similar to the original "batwing" air cleaner.

I bought a liquid intercooler core from Bell, fabbed the end tanks, welded on bungs that drop through the base of a Holley high ram intake. The bungs welded on the intake have internal o-ring grooves to seal vacuum/boost.

I then fabbed the upper part for dual throttle bodies. Front wing nut is the high air bleed for the system. 100% welded inside and out, external welds sanded down.

Welding with an HTP invertig 221 which was basically maxed out. (3/16 5052)

I think it turned out pretty neat but think I may have the upper part done in 2 piece CNC billet to exactly copy the original.

Is this on the Pro-touring forums or similar? i remember a few months back a buddy sent me a link to your thread on another site and i fell in love. Incredible and creative work, thank you for sharing over here!

Very nicely executed. That turned out great.

We all would. But you quoted and repeated eleven pictures he'd just shown us. :headscrat

Next time please select all the photos in the quote (like in this example) then hit the delete key. The quote and your reply will still be there but now we don't have to scroll through all the redundant imagery. Thanks.

I am a VERY novice weldor, but I'll play...

I am building a cart to hold the battery out of my stock picker. It weighs 975 pounds (!) so my welds had to hold. No weld closeups - I'm not that good - but I can clean 'em up with a grinder PDQ!

I though it was ready for paint, but while I was handling it I decided that I didn't like the flex in the handle so I added some angle reinforcements and THEN painted it:

I even rounded the corners a little, in hopes of saving my shins:

There will be a set of four locking casters on the bottom, and a short section of roller conveyor on top of this that the battery rolls onto. I am painting everything right now, but I'll post final pictures in a few days if anyone wants to see them?

Very similar to the holders for 500# welding wire barrels I build at work. Just add a chain to keep things from rolling off. I recommend the hardest tired casters you can find for ease of movement.

There was a different criteria for caster selection, which was "What do I have in the parts bins"?

:lol_hitti

It turns out I had some nice locking Colson swivel casters that are plenty beefy for the job. Like 500 lb capacity per cast beefy. And they are greasable on both the swivel and the roller. I took them apart, cleaned 'em, greased 'em, and put them back together. They can probably go back on the cart tonight...
