Man, I want to post pics of my grapple project but it's not worthy!

No cnc, no plasma. Had to make it with straight cuts.

I built the roller last summer for a sculpture I was doing. I’ve rolled 3/16” wall 2” tubing. I’m not sure how thick it will go. For the sculpture I did up to 8’ wide, 3/16” thick stainless steel sheet in a single pass. The roller is 10’ wide and made with 8” schedule 40 pipe and 2” solid shaft and bearings. There is a bottle jack on each side for the moving roller. It took all 230 pounds of me on that wagon wheel to roll the stainless steel. dcc0cef18ae544fb1eb4afba95a1f92c.jpg

I fixed Dad's(rip) Craftsman mower. Hadn't run in 50 years (It's as old as me, 68).
Chunk was broken out of the aluminum deck. Many hours disassembled every part, clean, sandblast some things, some painted or polish/clear coat. Runs great.View attachment 1013651View attachment 1013652View attachment 1013653View attachment 1013654View attachment 1013655View attachment 101365620200517_221331.jpg

Wow, that is an awesome sculpture! Pretty cool roller too. That had to be tough to do, not only roll it but manage that big a piece of material simultaneously. Impressive.

And the cabana, also very nice.

This a lawn ornament I made for my wife for Mother's Day. The sign is made 1/8" steel I had laser cut at SendCutSend.com. I welded up the end of a 1" steel square tube and tack on a pair of 1/4-20 nuts to mount the sign with stainless fasteners. She was pleased.

I had the honor of doing a few large memorials last summer. I do metal sculpture out of my home shop nights and weekends. I wasn’t the artist on either one, but I take care of all engineering, fabrication, logistics, and installation for them. The curved one is installed north of Baltimore and it pushed the limits of my engineering, fabrication, and patience. I had to build a few tools to complete it including that roller.

The one I am most proud of was the Fallen Star Memorial installed in Connecticut last October. It is to honor the 30,000 Connecticut residents that have been killed in battle dating all of the way back to the Revolutionary War.

Thanks for all of the compliments. I was really only able to do them because I was too dumb and stubborn to know I shouldn’t. There are what felt like miles of welds on them, but luckily the vast majority are polished out and I am better with a grinder than a welder.

There are a few thousand hours into those two and since this is a side job for me, there were a lot of sleepless nights!

The Fallen Star went exactly as planned and is my proudest achievement of the last 20 years.

Turning Winds, the curved intertwined leaves, was the most challenging thing I have ever done engineering, fabrication, shipping logistics, install, all of it. It was only successful because the help of some good friends and family and just refusal to fail.

Taking on both of them at the same time was pure stupidity, but puts a smile on my face now that they are out of my shop and installed.

I can see being glad to see it go. I did that kind of stuff when I was younger and could or would work a lot long and hard. I can do one or another yet but it's a lot of work.
This is only somewhat related only in the sense it comes from a career welder but I kicked and slumber around a little for a while and the best I ever see at side work was absolute hack sign artist/painter/maker. He would paint anything any way. Really proficient in art, hand letter and illuminated plastic face, outdoor advertising.

Those are some awesome sculptures!

To answer the earlier questions about the grapple, I used 3x3 11 ga tubing and 1.75 11 ga round tubing. It's make from 3/8" plate. These were made to be lighter duty than one for a full sized skid steer. One of them is going on a 39 hp kubota tractor. The full sized skid steer ones were just to heavy for this application. The other one will go on my mini skid steer. I'm probably going to build another one for my 32 hp yanmar tractor as well. There's some significant design changes I want to make having built a couple of them. I'm thinking about offering a weld it together yourself kit for these at some point.

Finished off my new bigger and better as well safer ATV riser ramps for my truck. Made the Ramps removable then decided flip uppable so now they can rest on the tailgate and act like a sled deck for bigger purchases. As well I can put Costco stuff underneath the Ramps when it’s elevated. Won’t need to remove them period now.

Then I cleaned my bench before painting the Ramps. Will have an installed pic tomorrow.

The ramp attaching to a cantilever is a bad idea. Better to move the connection close to the boxes.

The bed on the carrier is too long to leave on the truck bed and close the tailgate. By lifting mine I can get it over the toolbox and the tailgate closed, then hook onto a trailer.

I'd like to know more about the wheelbarrow and what you use it for?

I use it for packing 10' fence posts, rolls of field fence wire, bundles of wire pins all with one bunk system, then bolt on another bunk to pack boxes of trees. I also bolted on the factory sides for a project last week to pack a generator, battery chargers, chainsaw fuel and drinking water into a stand of timber for a job.

And I use mine to haul bark dust! :bounce:

That wheelbarrow is insane haha
Is this a home made project or are they available somewhere?

Mine with the poly tub is a Honda HP400 circa the late '80's I think. Works good enough for a proof of concept. Needs a little more work to make it run like a top again. 400 Kg payload on flat ground.

The one I use for work is a Canycom BFP602 made in Japan. They have been in business since 1955 and appear to have been in works with Honda as a lot of the undercarriage is similar.

I only built the bunks, sewed up the item bag on the handlebar and 3D printed the mounts for the fire extinguisher. And a skid plate in the rear. How they managed to build a delicate/vulnerable shifter mechanism on the back of this thing and not figure out it needs protected is beyond me (repurposed HF trailer fender, short piece of free angle and two chain links using factory mounting bolts).
