V-that is some very meticulous work. I see many, many hours of perfection going into a finished piece. You have incredible patience and a good eye!

Finally got my spool gun all setup. Decided to get fancy and make a set up where I didn’t need to change out hoses to change the gas, just shut one ball valve, open the other. Gave it a try and the gas set up works but I **** at at welding aluminum so far lol I didn’t realize how easy it was to blow through aluminum. So the first pic is the gas line set up, second pic is the first two coupons I welded, second is where I tried a lap joint, and then the last pic is the two best welds I did so far. Gonna definitely more aluminum to practice on.

A spool gun is not the easiest thing to master, I had certified welders that couldn't lay down a bead that good. Practice practice practice [emoji106]

Harley jim Never had anything powder coated. Do they need to prep this in a special way especially with the chrome ?

Yes, there is some prep work to do. The powder is electrostaticly applied to the metal then baked in an oven at 400 deg. so all plastic and paint must be removed. I typically sand blast everything but they have a chemical stripper also. The small stuff goes in my blast cabinet, the big stuff goes in there blast building.

They blasted and coated this Gazebo for me a couple of weeks ago, the roof comes apart in four sections so it wasnt all one piece.
Chrome has to be blasted to give the powder something to adhere to.

Designed up a hood vent mount for a Kobe hood vent insert. I liked the performance of the insert vs buying one that had a stainless exterior. Project kind of spiraled into way more work than I expected. But I'm happy with how it turned out. Just way more work then I meant to sign up for. But it got me some extra welding practice.

Hey guys go easy on me. I taught myself how to weld during covid and this was one of my early projects I made. My dad needed a support foot for a gate that he wanted to keep from sagging.

This is what I came up with. Let me know what you think!

I’ve been wanting to combine some woodworking with a welding project so I made a console table for my GF. I’m a novice welder but I was pleased with my welding efforts this time. I used Prestoblack to darken the steel legs.
I used Walnut for the top.

DrReid, thanks. I started a thread on the use of PrestoBlack and you responded. I pretty much listened to your advice. It was a battle with rust following the Prestoblack. I pretty much removed the rust with fine steel wool, wiped it down with IPA then sprayed with a satin clear coat. I was happy with the mottled look of the legs, not as black as I thought but I like it.

<smacks forehead> You're quite right -- after I posted I found your earlier thread with my input. Anyway, the outcome looks great. A matter of personal preference, I like the 'mottled' look, as you say, over a completely uniform black patina (like paint).

My basement door and covered roof was due for a major makeover.

Welded some brackets out of 3x3x1/4" tube. Welded nuts on the top of the horizontal section for the beam sill plate to bolt to. The upright sections were drilled to allow 1" diameter thru bolts and washers to attach the brackets to the poured 8" thick concrete foundation.

Built new roof, trimmed the beams, and replaced the nasty door.

Still work to do to finish including shingling the roof.

House undergoing a makeover with new windows, siding, deck rebuild, and soon kitchen extension/remodel....
