I have a large selection of adjustable wrenches that I both used and collected. Most were purchased used. I happen to have a couple pix handy of a couple of Diamond tool wrenches I picked up this past weekend but I look forward to photographing the rest of my collection.

what is the purpose forthe 12 point end on older adjustable wrenches?

i really need to take a shot of mine. i probably had 40 or more. ive sold a ton that i should have kept, but the ones that are worth money usually get gone so i can have some play money for other tools. i keep nice usa stuff, but common, mostly.
i finally picked up a penncraft.

did they market any under the jc penney brand?

Just a quick question. Im trying to find an aluminum adjustable wrench to keep on the boat. Do you guys know of anyone what makes one. Im not looking for an AN wrench, but an honest to goodness aluminum adjustable.

I tried gathering my collection of adjustable wrenches for this picture, but I still have a few at work in my desk. As a foundry mechanic, there are few tools more useful than my adjustable wrenches. For your viewing pleasure ...

Some of the more notable wrenches include:

- Proto 720 20"
- Proto 715 15"
- Williams ab-18 18"
- 2x Diamond Calk Horseshoe co. 12"
- Diamond tool and horseshoe co 8"
- 2x Crescent 12"
- 6x Craftsman wrenches
- Fuller 10" (the first one I ever bought at ~13yo)
- Challenger 8"
- Crescent 6"

Usual culprits, Wright, Williams, Proto, Diamond. I'm a Harley mechanic and use them to straighten or tweak a bracket now and then, can't remember the last time I used one on a fastener

Why an aluminum adjustable? For corrosion resistance? Why not stainless or BeCu?

Yup. I tend to work to things under water form time to time (props, through hulls, etc) and the salt eats tools up. I want aware of the BeCu stuff until you mentioned it. I'll try to track one down.

Just picked this guy up with some other tools, I had never heard of the manufacturer before. 8" made by the Canton Malleable Iron Co.

1st side: 8" Malleable - Made In U.S.A.
2nd side: MFD by the Canton Malleable Iron Co.

If I had to guess Canton is Canton, OH about 1/2 hr from me

I saw 304 stainless adjustables on Amazon. That's still cheaper than old berylco wrenches on eBay, but not as salt water resistant.

The name sounds familiar, I think I have an adjustable from them myself.

Here is the Challenger 12" I just picked up also. It doesn't look to have ever been used. Interesting to me was that it shared the same JP Danielson design of my old Cornwell. The hanging hole got a 360 degree rib on the Challenger and the casting numbers and MFD. USA are on different sides. Other than that almost identical.

I'm pretty sure Top makes one, short handle, very wide opening designed for plumbing applications.

I don't know if this fits the category, but it is a wrench and is adjustable. Definitely post worthy, I think. DVD and tape measure for reference. It weighs about 35 lbs. This one is the second largest Ridgid makes. The largest is a 60".

I have a few Craftsman in my tool chest. They range in size from 6 to 12 inches. Some of my other sets have them in about the same sizes but fewer are in each set.

Increased my collection greatly last week thanks to an auction find.

Paid $17 for all these adjustable wrenches, plus a couple of Chinese ones. Also got about 15 OK screwdrivers (Craftsman, Stanley, etc) And a toolbox.

I was kind of proud of the Diamond ones! Just need to clean them up a bit.

whaaaaaaaa?????

okay you got me... how does that vise-grip-like handle work on that Stanley there on the left?? :headscrat:

Really well! Until I got my Knipex Plierswrenches, it was my go-to for adjustable wrench duty. I still use it when I want an adjustable that can be clamped onto something.

It works just like you'd expect from vise grips. It closes the jaws about 1/8", with extreme clamping force.

Here's my collection: count as of today was 94 on the wall. Got a few in my portable toolboxes and truck as well. Everything you see is any and every brand but all USA made!
