My Bud said he was working on a machine in Japan and picked up an adjustable to do something and they went ape ****,,, 3 or 4 guys went running off and came back with a wrench and said,,, we have the right tool for that.
Said he had a date with a secretary one night, the next day the gossip was in full swing and they called him "the King" for the rest of the time he was there.

I have a few adjustables.

I don’t use them a lot, I usually have the correct wrench, but sometimes it doesn’t hurt, especially on the larger sizes. Use them for pipes a fair bit too.

One of my favourite makers was the British firm Garrington. They made a huge variety of different patterns of adjustable, and I have quite a few. Despite having been gone for, I’m guessing, 50 years, I still see a lot in use. The quality was first class.

This is one of their ‘Red Diamond’ pattern. They made a whole range of wrenches in this style, and adjustables in several sizes, both black and chrome. They’re one of my favourites.

This one is unusual on acccount of it’s condition. Despite being 58 years old, it appears to be not only unused, but still in new condition! I found it in a local used tool shop, and paid the equivalent of about $15 for it. More than I normally pay, but sometimes you have to!

I was messing with some the other day getting ready and one of the least liked ones in the bunch was Crecent. Strong enough but least jaw opening.

Here's an old Diamond 10"er I inherited from my dads tools. Freed it up, cleaned up the faces, and now it hangs in my shop. And it's engraved with my dads (and my!) initials on it!

Sberry, have you tried Carlyle adjustable wrenches? They open wider than Blue Point. The metal seems a little on the soft side.

Proto 18, craftsman 15 and some craftsman beak jaws. Plus a ridgid pipe wrench that I revived from drawer to take pic of adjustable.

No I havnt. We have changed parts stores over the years. Some of the best have been China clones, ATD and same wrench under other brands. Bought a set once at 16$ for 4, another time 20$. They are on the top of my pic if I got to travel with 1. I was pretty vested in Proto and Diamond but I got away from caring a lot about it after a while, I got a couple of dozen I lean on pretty regular.

I was under the impression the soft grips were always Swedish, then Spanish, never USA.

You have been under the wrong impression. This is actually pretty well known. Assuming is hazardous to your health.

A quick glance of the shape of the head should tell you it isn’t bahco made. (Spain or Sweden).

Another quick glance would reveal a raised snap on logo. Another quick glance would show the lack of the B (bahco) in the part number.

Hope this helps. These haven’t been made in 12-15+ years.

USA made snap on adjustables are :

AD6,8,10,12 smooth jaw, chrome handle
FAD6,8,10,12 flank drive jaws, chrome handle

ADH6,8,10,12 smooth jaw, soft grip handle
FADH6,8,10,12 flank drive jaw, soft grip.

Sweden or Spain units are made by bahco, now snap on owned. They have a thinner head profile, open 1/8" to 1/4" more than the older USA made ones, but the fitment is sloppy and the chrome flakes very easily. I don't care for the Bahco made ones, but I do have some 20-30 year old Bahco branded ones from Sweden before snap on acquired them that are excellent fit and finish.

FADH6,8,10,12B for bahco, then color code, bahco made flank drive
ADH6,8,10,12B smooth jaw, soft handle, bahco made

Made in Spain by Irega.

No. It's people like you that don't have a clue that just keep regurgitating things you've heard. Bahco has a plant in spain that makes most of the snap on specific or snap on branded tools. Bahco, spain, is where snap on files are made, the pliers wrenches, and a few speciality pliers as well as the Bahco Adjustable wrenches. Maybe you should spend about 5 minutes on googleFoo and you'd learn something. the Bahco branded smooth jaw adjustable wrenches are still made at the plant in sweden. The Flank drive adjustable wrench is unique to snap on, and is made in the snap on bahco plant in spain. Let me guess, you aren't aware snap on owns Bahco too?

This article makes it sound like when they closed the Enköping factory in 2006, that was the end of Swedish made Bahco adjustable wrenches. I wouldn't mind being proven wrong since I've always heard good things about the Swedish made wrenches and finding some new production ones would be nice.

As a plumber I use these almost every day, apart from the Bahco slim-jaw the rest of these are over 20 years old and are as good as the day I bought them. I have other adjustable wrenches but nothing can match these.

Sometimes when you want to give lessons to others we see the ignorant you are.
Snap on files are made next to my home in Portugal, here:

@mrspeed That is quite the collection. I may have to check some of them out. Personally, I love the Craftsman locking variety. The rubber grips feel amazing in hand and do not move at all, and the head opens up quite large compared to other similar sized wrenches.

This is an old Facom adjustable that I have in my garage box. I am a big fan of Facom gear and I have a lot of it in my garage box, I personally would put it on a par with Snapon or any of the main german brands but this has to be the worst tool I have ever picked up. It just feels all wrong in your hand and it has a huge head but a very small opening. Also as you can see in the photos you can’t take apart the head to clean it which is probably why it feels so rough to open and close.

Biggest I have is 25" or something, and weighs more than I care for. Won't take it out just for a pic :)

I use Bahco adjustables almost every day and I swear by them. I have never used a snapon because i have never seen one for sale. I would be interested to know do you find the flank drive to be a better wrench?

This Indestro 3589 just saved the day for me. I was trying to remove a rounded over 14mm spindle blade bolt off a used Toro I bought and my socket just kept slipping off.

Funny thing is, I've had it for years and rarely used it but last week I used it to bend something (a trick I learned from Scoutcrafter on Youtube) and I was thinking then that it has the least slop of any of my vintage adjustables and what a fine wrench it is. I love it when a tool you bought for a collection saves the day.

I would expect a socket to be less prone of slipping of than a wrench, let alone an adjustable one...

I hope you'll put a new bolt on the blade and not reuse this one :lol_hitti
Unless you want double the fun (once now, once again next time you take off the blade...)
