One more for tonight. My oldest kit. Missing a small handful of pieces. I did add the short 1/2 adapter for the ratchet since I took these photos. Missing the long 1/2 extension and maybe a couple other sockets but overall pretty darn complete for something this old, around 1930 or so.

Here is a recent acquisition off FBMP. A set of Indestro Super metric sockets, from 10mm to 22mm. Numbers from 47010 to 47022. Looking in ITCL catalogs, the cross section of metric and Indestro Super brings them down to 1959 - 1971. Not a steel steal, but a decent price for an almost complete set. Only thing missing from the 7880MM set in the 1959 catalog, is the 9943 metal tray.

Some look almost unused, no scarring on the top surface.

^ I JUST listed a set that had one of those rotted-off 1/4" shafts in it!

Don't suppose you might have an extra black finish/plain steel finish 4550 laying around, would you? ;)

Nice set JMP! Check out my post #1310 in this thread. Found mine at an estate sale with a sales receipt from either 1933 or 1938 under the cardboard in the lid.

Not early or wartime and the box isin't Duro or Indestro, but I'm adding to my budding Indestro 3/8 socket set that I'm building; both SAE and Metric - I received the 10-19MM sockets this past week. I already had an 8MM so i'l be watching for a 9MM just for the OCD of it. These metric have the knurled markings, the SAE, 2 of the largest are shown, have the twin grooves, so it will be easier to keep them separate.

I'm still hunting for the 1/4" sockets both SAE and MM, but I have the paddle grip breakers and ratchets for both 1/4 & 3/8, including a 2736 swivel head 3/8 Indestro already, the others are either Indestro marked or Indestro made and Wizard marked.

I'll probably have to leave the wrenches out of this brass box and have a second box for those, once I find the 1/4" drive sockets.

Why Indestro? I like the paddle drive tools, and wanted the sockets to match as this era of Indestro drive tools were excellent quality.

Has anyone made up any Indestro decals for boxes? that would be cool once the box cleanup is done.

Picked up this Indestro 177 stamped "Alligator" pipe wrench/multi tool just to see if I could ID it - I can't even Google it. Google is SO useless these days.

1/4" square and hex, 5/16 and 3/8 for the other hex. I'm assuming the slot is to give the smooth Alligator jaw some flex/spring?

That’s kind of cool. Maybe four.cycle will know something about it when he returns from vacation. I found two 3/8” drive wartime D-I sockets at an estate sale yesterday. I cleaned them up and checked to see if they would be an upgrade to my made up Duro/D-I 3/8” drive socket set. It turned out that the 7/16” socket was Duro marked so now all of the shallow sockets are D-I.
As foundIMG_7228.jpegIMG_7229.jpeg
Carefully cleaned up since the 1/2” is cad plated. IMG_7258.jpeg
Added to the 3/8” drive set. IMG_7275.jpeg

From an auction yesterday, I found this really nice box, Doggone good lol, well inside nice anyways, for cheap I can't resist a nice box! Research here it is a Duro-Chrome 4518RS Refrigeration Set, it has the special sockets, missing the regular and square drive sockets as well as the special ratchet. But just look at that decal ! doggone good lol. Outside can use a repaint but no holes and rust isn't deep at all.

Nice grab, @garilla!

If I am interpreting your "Research here..." comment correctly, you found my set and documentation upthread. If not, just search the thread on 4518RS. If you intend to fill it up, I think you've done well to find the gland sockets and will have much better luck with the regular pieces. I may have an extra rat.
Outside can use a repaint but no holes and rust isn't deep at all.
That will strip and repaint very nicely! And because it's all exterior, you won't be seeing the outside and the inside together, so you won't have to match that brilliant blue-green exactly. I bet there are a number of very close or close enough rattle can options. It's a popular color again.

yes indeed I saw your posting Lugs, and others on the 4518RS set, that mint set of yours, wow. My interest started when I saw those sockets and wondered what they were for. I also saw some mention of carburetor jet tools that are similar. I'm going to use the box for some other sockets and the refrig ones, well who knows maybe I'll need them someday haha. Yeah this site is my usual first research. thanks for the offer on the ratchet, I think I have enough collections already hahaha.

Now I just got the idea to use some of those old chinese/taiwan sockets that we all have accumulated from auction/garage sale tool boxes and make some gland type sockets for opening up Williams ratchets. just a bit of old grinding on the soft ones from overseas lol.

Here is what I believe to be a wartime refrigeration set. I spotted it on eBay and had to have it. The sockets on the left in the first picture are branded Duro Chrome. The sockets on the right are D-I marked. The catalog picture is a similar prewar set.

No, but I have wondered if the catalog scans are high enough resolution to print a decent decal or magnet to put in my top chest…

I sent pictures of Duro lablels showing dimensions to Jim’s Engine decals and he made a close approximation if the label which is now available on eBay. I don’t see why the same couldn’t be done with a high quality Indestro label. IMG_2397.jpegIMG_3295.jpeg

^ I have several Indestro decals I've purchased from Jim, but NOT that early one. I DO have a box with a fairly pristine decal somewhere in the living room - that fancy "Socket Wrench Sets" design.
