I picked up this Long C era tool today for $1. Regrettably someone has painted the exterior but for the price I will give it to my 11 year old WW2 fan. 1911 Colt holster with Sears Makers mark and date of 1942. IMG_0768.jpegIMG_0769.jpeg

Smoke, are you sure about the 1911 colt? It looks more like revolver fitment to me, from what I can see.
I’m 100% it’s for a 1911. The way the flap has dried/formed over the years made it look like a revolver but now that it’s latched it is much easier to see. My dad has my grandfather’s 1911 with a boyt made holster and it’s the exact same shape. This one measures 5” at the widest point IMG_0772.jpeg

The whole lot is nice. Your flea markets are better than mine

Geometric Craftsman with another Circle I (Parker?) marking? I don't think these are VG manufactured the release lever is different.

The Circle I locking pliers with the number on the jaw showed up c.1981 and into the 1990s.

Snuck out during work and found this roll at an estate sale. While some of the chisels/punches have some grinding damage, the decal is in amazing condition, and the leatherette vinyl has very little peeling. All of the ones inside are Long C (BC). Overall cost? $7.

Anyone know when the Black/orange color scheme was used? Found the 12-pc roll in the '39 catalog without color, and the '42 catalog (but blue leatherette). Also have to see what I have for replacement/spares at home.

^ NOT a clue, but that pouch is definitely a score at $7 bucks! Even if it was empty!

I just remembered I have a couple Craftsman punches here that came in a batch of stuff. What are you shy in that set? (I can't remember where I put them.)

Yes, would have happily paid it for the pouch empty. The blue in the pic doesn't actually reflect the color as well (it is greener-gray/black, not as blue).

Will look when I get home and put them in the "correct slots" to see what is missing.

This is why I always open up random boxes and rolls. Actually went to this sale as I saw a hip box that looked like it would be a "maybe" for Blue CM. Turned out to be unmarked.

Ok so I posted this on Brian’s Facebook page yesterday but thought I would post here as to keep a recond in the future. I found three 1/2” drive swivel sockets marked BE yesterday. No knurling. Brian found them in the 1942 catalog. Honestly, until yesterday I have never heard of such a thing. Anyway, here’s some pics

I have some (H) that are in the same style as =V=, always guessed they were '48 vintage.

Edit: Mine are 3/8, not 1/2".

OK craftsman nerds. I know most of you saw this on eBay. The listing left and I thought someone had purchased it. Well….it was delisted and I snagged it. This ratchet has the 1920s new Britain logo. I anxiously await your comments.

There is a couple of debatable things in early craftsman stuff. Gearwolf was pretty adamant on all of the c series stuff being snapon, but some of it I'm not sure. Who knows, maybe snapon sold some stuff to newbritain?

Or…..snap on, a fairly young company in the early 30s outsourced some of their production to help fill the sears orders. I can’t wait to get it in hand to compare. It’s the first I have ever seen or heard of this. The new Britain Fors ratchet was model cs-41 so I think it’s legit.

^ Just FYI:
In a phone conversation with one of the big muckity-mucks at Lang/A&E (several years back), one of their sales managers told me "Snap on is our biggest customer."
Don't think for a second that Snap-on (along with every other U.S. tool "manufacturer") wasn't outsourcing something from somebody at some point.
It would not surprise me in the least to find that New Britain was outsourcing from somebody. Or Moore Drop Forge, for that matter. They ALL did it.

The number of U.S. based tool "manufacturers" who make ALL their own stuff in house can be counted on your fingers.

Ok guys I finally received the snappy looking New Britain ratchet. There are definately differences. Attached are pics of the ratchet sitting adjacent to the longer version of the c-97. The c-41 is considerably longer. The tooth construction on the gearing is much heavier on the NB and, well I didn’t count but the NB has fewer teeth. All other construction aspects do look identical. I guess it’s just a seldom seen NB. Attached are photos.
