I found a neat little piece at the flea market this morning. You guys think it’s actually long c era? There’s no registered trademark stamp on it...

I think it's genuine Long C era. I have one squirreled away somewhere in a box. Every repop item that Sears made that I've seen is a complete piece of **** that's obvious to spot. Both your key/knife and mine looks like the real deal to me.

I'm about to wrap up a short contract up in the Craftsman goldmine known as Pennsylvania. I've been using my spare time wisely. The bed, back seat, and passenger seat of my truck are full, I have to tap out and leave some goodies behind. Among the five pre-war motors coming home to me, one has a data plate I've not seen until now. Looking forward to getting this stuff home.

PA! I would be super broke if I lived there :)
Being super broke is perequisite to living here, LOL. Timber, coal, oil, steel, gas - it’s yours for the cost of removal. The roads are paved with scratched-off lottery tickets.
Seriously, finding cheap, plentiful things you want outside your local community is the whole reason for commerce.
I hope you paid the severence tax, JoCo.

I see what you did there :) JoCo and I often whine about the amount of great craftsman for mere pittance in PA and I am just super envious he made the pilgrimage :rocker::drool:... I know a general overall of what he got and sounds like he cleaned up !

Thanks guys. I also like that it’s dated for the anniversary. I’d like to see one with its indigo like blue paint intact.

Pulled these 1/4 Drive BE marked sockets and original box from a flipper today. Went toe-to-toe with him on price, and in the end I think we both were satisfied with the result. My curiosity is that some of these are "Long C" and some are standard font (SK made?) is it possible that there were times when sets were hand stuffed in distribution centers to fill sets with whatever was on hand? Does the box itself (in original condition as shown) reveal any clue as to precise time this set may have been assembled? I have some Long C drive tools to add to the set at home.

I just photoshopped some blue into your pic!!

oob: the plain font is older. Note the hyphenated fractional markings. Both are New Britain products. That set looks like it’s lived it’s life together. Probably during the transition of logos. Nice find.

Lugs: jealous of that hacksaw! I’ve got a grand total of two golden jubilee pieces. A long way from a jubilee collection.

JoCo; I would have never known. And I just installed photoshop on my phone!

These are on eBay now and not mine. Since we’re on the subject. Also a cool little machinist angle vise

Slightly off topic, but I thought it was kind of neat my dad sent me this pic of my grandfather (forefront left) and some friends when he was 20 in 1936 (license plate) since we were just talking about the Golden Jubilee.

The early be were not long c, but still new britain made. Typically a dash in the size instead of the /.

I really like the looks of that little set and it’s case. If you have the chance I’d like to see it maybe from the back and also without the tools in it.

ooba, the machinist's vise was made by Palmgren. They made a good quality line of drill press and milling vises, a milling attachment for lathes and a really nice rotary table. Palmgren cast their name into their own product line items but those sold by Sears got a small "Craftsman" decal. Palmgren is still around but sadly, manufacturing is now offshore.

Thanks OTG! Simple, nice design.

Thanks for that Tom. Unfortunately that seems to be par for the course these days.

Lucky me...this was an extra that came with a lot of other stuff i bid on at a daylong auction yesterday. I was originally excited to see the long c, so as a lightly brushed at it to move some dust, got even happier when blue paint started poking thru! Everything seems to be in good shape, ill post up a few more as it gets a bath later and see just how much original finish blue paint is left on it.

I know machines aren't featured a lot in here so I won't flood the thread with them but I gotta share my PA load. Got it home today. All of the machines are complete except for the WT bandsaw missing the front blade guard, I just have some of the parts off for travel. I'm relieved to have it all home, most of it lived in my hotel room which got some odd looks from housekeeping. I now have enough motors to outfit all of my DPs with period correct motors. The wall cab is a carpenters version. This is the first prewar machine lamp I've run across although the shade is a later replacement. Had a fun time up there.

Please show it again once it's cleaned up, looks to be in great condition! That'd pair nicely with the prewar pipe threading racked set.
