I like that the Kobalt one has a 3 drawer bottom box, but I like the slides better on the HF one.

is it made in japan? do the drawers have ball bearing slides?
Made in Taiwan, the same as the full size versions.
Yes, ball bearing slides. Strong detent, which is good as they stay closed, but also a bit annoying since there is not a proportional amount of weight in the drawers.

I’ve seen these in Lowe’s and love the idea, but never pulled the trigger. At $13 I couldn’t resist and am in for 2.

Bought my daughter a pink mini tool box at Lowe’s this morning. It’s a Barbie kinda Christmas.

Looked for but did not find the camo box.

I have one, but I can't seem to decide what to do with it. I don't have room on my desks at home or work (maybe I'll do some rearranging), and no room on my workbenches (again, might need to rearrange). I'm watching this thread to see what others use it for in the hope I'll get some ideas. It looks like a good place for pens and pencils and small rulers. It needs a weight on the bottom to make it easier to pull open without getting pulled toward me.

I don't have a lot of weight in the Kobalt box I have but it doesn't move or doesn't seem to move when I open a drawer.

I think once you load it down, it's going to be okay.

Pens, pencils and Sharpies. Buy extra for the box. Now you have spares and don't have to go on a hunt when you need one.

I started putting my wallet, sunglasses and phone in it. I have it on some drawers in my office. We'll see how that goes. I think the drawers just need breaking in. There are magnets on the back that hold it in that are really not needed for my uses. Maybe taking those off will help.

Not exactly Mini, about 18" wide but I think it still qualifies. A $60 Craigslist find I keep first aid and PPE in.

That's a smart use case where I might actually buy one of the things...putting together a first aid kit with drawers. Good idea.

As close as I get to all this is a small Trusco with gun cleaning supplies, nothing amazing.

What I'm waiting for is the Lista salesman's sample. (you know, a mini-Rousseau would be a genius marketing move for Tekton, but I expect it would cost too much to be practical).

Not if it wasn't made to the actual product specs!

Exactly. That would actually be a pretty cool thing rather than just throwing a decal on something.

this has nothing to do with the topic, but it would be really great if they built a stacking narrower toolchest set like in olden days.

I actually compared my Kobalt version to the US General version today. Pretty close to the same size wise but I would give the win to the US General box. There's a link in my Garage Refurb thread if you want to check it out on Page 118.

I thought a second one would be nice to have. The only one I've found is on Ebay for $400. It's $60 or maybe $100 worth of cool...but not $400. I'm not sure if they went to employee's or were sold.

I've shown this before, but…This set-up will get just about any of my jobs done.IMG_5600.jpegIMG_5601.jpeg
I really wanted one of those. Too much $$$ when I was young. Do you happen to have the part # so I can keep my eyes peeled for one on the used market. Snapon doesn’t make nearly as many of those small metal boxes like they used to….I like those old boxes.

I have 4 of them. They became residents here as part of a deal. I had several Kennedy. I sell Kennedy because I do not like the colour. The Kennedy boxes were made by BEACH, in Canada.

Had some extra computer stuff and pens/pencils from my last job. But the new job I have more storage room and space plus drawers. Soooo I need to find a purpose for my poor toolbox that has been collecting dust in the garage. Have a smaller house and not a lot of extra room. Plus the 2 yr old has toys all over soooo..... We have fishing setups already so maybe once I acquire more fishing gear...
