Only missing the stubby and the bent handle... (My old 7" USA Craftsman might as well be a stubby though...) Can't believe I've been suffering all these years! :bounce:

Well if you're going for all 3/8" SK you'll need to also included the roto, the stubby flex, the compact (3/8" in 1/4" body), the compact flex, and the standard length handle flex

I have tons of SK, but this is my "custom" made kit. It's the 47 piece set and I added a Snap On universal, a Cornwell stubby 1" extension, a 40970 with 3/8" conversion, 2 Craftsman USA locking extensions, the original 3" extension and a SK 3/16" socket. It sits in my box as is and I can grab entire set to bring under hood with me if needed. I can also snap the black latches back in place and bring it on the road with me or wherever.

And inside...

a full set of SK Wayne tools from 1967. The original owner put a suitcase padlock on it and put it on a shelf.

There are a few extras from the original owner. There's a nice level and a drill bit, neither of which are original. And the adjustable wrench has been used.

How do you end up using it? I feel like I always need leverage when I'm using 3/8 sockets, hence the long and the flex...

A lot of stuff I do doesn't need high torque, coming or going, and if it does I often break it loose and if the long handle is "in the way" I switch.

^ Seriously nice score.

Hey, Toothaker was asking about some wrenches in another thread, so I figured I should probably post these here as well. 1961 S-K Lectrolite promotional brochure:

I wish I could take credit for finding it, but it sorta found me. There's a used tool dealer in a small town south of where I live (Denny's Tool Crib in Oxford, KS) who sells various used tools. He goes to auctions, estate sales, garage sales, whatever and buys used tools and sells them in his shop. He's only open on certain weekends and by appointment. Last weekend I was down there getting some fills for my S-K tools, and he mentioned he had this set. I was stunned when I saw it. I didn't have that much cash on me, and he doesn't take plastic, so I went down there tonight and bought it. It is only missing the 8" adjustable wrench, plus it had a 1/2" T-bar and a 1/2" spinner, which didn't come with the set originally.

It is flawless. Real museum quality. And oddly, freeing for me. I have some duplicates, and I am always wondering if I should be using the best socket or the ratty one. Now I know I can use the best tools in my toolbox, because I have a really nice set stored away.

And for what it's worth, Denny carries a lot more than S-K. He has a web site with pictures if you want to see what sort of place he has. Google search "denny's tool crib", and the pictures don't do the place justice. There must be literally tons of tools in his shop. I have no business relationship with the place, except that I'm a customer.

And yes, I bought a set of DOE and DBE S-K wrenches tonight too. And my first (and second in the kit) 10" S-K 1/2" ratchet. I've been using a Craftsman 10" ratchet since I was 18 years old, so it nice to have a ratchet to go with all my S-K sockets.

Awesome. Second page, lower right corner. Set 5400-C, four piece 45* set of DBE wrenches. That's it exactly.

So, I found the article on Alloy Artifacts regarding Lectrolite, but I haven't read it completely yet. The DOE set are probably also Lectrolite.

Nice!! Does it have a torx screw to adjust the tension on the flex joint? I think newer SK flex ratchets have this but the older once don't. I'd REALLY like to find a bent flex tuff1 ratchet with adjustable tension via a bolt or screw on the flex joint. I have some non flex Tuff1 ratchets and really like them!

I missed your post Montana, sorry for the delayed response.

The 45875 just has a pin in the joint, like the older models. I wish it had a screw like my 3870 (standard roto) has.

Thank you Outlaw, four.cycle and 1foxracing. This is sure a friendly place, and a goldmine of information. I wouldn't have known what I was looking at without reading here first.

Been meaning to post these up, I hope this is the latest "Show your SK thread", it's the only one I could find.

1/2"dr flex head, 3/8"dr flex head, 3/8"dr in 1/4" body flex head and a straight 3/8"dr.

I didn't realize that SK made ratchets with hard handles. Those look great.

They don't, I used screwdriver handles.

Bob, did you add the hard handles?

I used Screwdriver handles. I used calipers to measure each ratchet handle then drilled the handles in a series of steps. Used a dead blow mallet to put the handles on and the knurling keeps them really tight.

:bowdown::bowdown::bowdown: those are NICE!!!

Thanks!

What tolerance or interference did you use? Line to line, or a .001 interference?

I don't remember the exact numbers but I did use the closest drill bit I could find. All were smaller than the actual OD of the handle by at least .001 or more. None were exact, this helped keep them tight. On the 1/2"dr I installed the first handle crooked, I needed to cut it off it was so tight, I paid more attention to alignment after that.

That chrome is awful. I will PM you my address so you can dispose of those terribly chrome finished tools. OK. Sarcasm off. I really should have bought some but didn't pull the trigger.

I was at HJE today, They have a few of the metric 3/8 drive sets on the shelf. You might want to give them a call, might not be too late to pull the trigger

I am selling this partial Sk set if anybody is interested. I also have a roto ratchet that is in mint condition I plan on selling. I will have to get pictures of that too. c405a708f5720429414392e061ffb4a6.jpg
