I hope this is the right thread, because I don't have a cabinet, I'm using a pot. It keeps getting plugged up and won't blow media. I suspect that the media in the pot has become damp. I carelessly left it out in the rain one day. How do I dry it out?

This image is of a similar pot. Thanks for any help.

EDIT: I do have a dryer on my compressor

EDIT: The media I am using is Dupont Course Staurolite (Black grainy stuff)

I have the pot raised on a hoist and have opened the bottom plug, but the expected flow of media didn't happen. The media at the bottom was very damp. I then poked a fiberglass rod onto the hole and it was very tasty and wouldn't flow. I'm afraid to pressurize the top of the pot. I might get a surprise.
Any ideas? Thanks, Jim

I was hoping that I wouldn't have to do that but I don't see another option. The pot currently has about 60 pounds of media. I hate to waste it. It will be a good lesson learned. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks, Jim

You may not need to waste the media. Spread it out on a tarp in the sun to dry, then screen it after it is dry. If yours has the drop down filler, you may have to hose the unit out, blow air through it, and then dry it thoroughly. Do you have a heat gun?

Turning it upside down has been a big help. I'm collecting the media into a tote. It is coming out slowly but it is coming out. I'm beating it with my rubber mallet and that is working.

Good news!

I have yet to use mine but I’ll be certain to not let the media get damp in the pot.

Hi all, thanks for all of the good advice. My blast pot is finally working as it should. I didn't have any time demands so I chose a slower method. I do have a heat gun so I stuck it into the loading hole and let it blow for days. A few times a day I would stir it up with a steel rod and eventually got all of the media drained out. I have about 500 pounds of media and I soon realized that all of my media was too damp to use. I poured it into 5 gallon buckets and patiently put it into bread pans and baked it in my wife's kitchen stove oven. I got about 100 pounds done before she caught me and made me quit. I'll have to do the rest when she's at work. Thanks again for all the help. I'm not proud of this adventure but I'm posting it as a learning tool for others.
Now all I need is a bigger compressor. (That's an eternal quest)

She works night shift and I'm a retired night owl, so I can use the kitchen stove �� I just have to be careful not to get sand all over the place.

New to blasting (as in I have never done it before or seen it done in person), but just ordered the cheapo Jegs Benchtop kit (95 bucks shipped including tax). I plan to use it to restore a vise or 3 & the occasional cleaning up of other small random odds & ends. Basically paint & rust removal.

I have a old Air America compressor which I think will give me plenty of air for the small projects I will be doing & a Ridgid 5 HP Shop Vac to pull the dusty air out.

Media Wise I believe that the TSC Black Diamond stuff should work (plus its cheap & Local.

Other then needing to silicon the hell out of every seam in the cabinet is there anything else I should know or do before I get this little cabinet into action?

Not me, but a place I once worked had a 100 hp unit that put out 385 cfm and the distribution piping was 3”. I dreamed of having one to sandblast with back then as long as someone else was paying the bill.

Use to rebuild the CT3B screw compressors. 1000 volt, 10-15 HP electric drive motor used on Tamrock underground drill rigs.
Unfortunately we did not have the equipment to rebuild the screws themselves and had to send them out.

Wish I had one for home use.

I see you’re in Texas. Most likely in most locales you could get your money back renting it out for one month a year to underground irrigation contractors.

Would probably pay for itself in 2 or 3 years.

Been looking for an Aftercooler to deal with water issues from the big compressor. This is another hurtle to hop over in the process of getting a system set up for efficient abrasive blasting.

I do the usual EBAY and Craigslist searches now and then, not much comes up except the new units with the staggering price tags. Then last week it hit me that I've had good luck in the past with wanted ads on CL. So I placed one.....not in the "Wanted" section, but right in "Heavy Equipment"......and in direct violation of CL policy's......

If you're looking for something and having no luck, consider a Wanted ad on CL.

And.........It worked! About 3 days later, I got a response from a guy that had 2 cooler sections, and only about 30 miles away.

We made a deal which I feel is quite reasonable considering my options.
I'll still need to build these into complete units with water separators, Chicago fittings, etc. but these are a key hard to find component.

The smaller one is rated for 155 CFM, 250 PSI.
No data on the larger one.
I'm excited to have found these units.

My brother had/has a high end furniture shop. He also builds Grandfather Clocks that top $25,000, to give an example. His shop has a rotary compressor and no storage tank. The oversize airlines in the shop have enough capacity. His shop air system uses a refrigerated dryer.

I just got off the phone with the Texas Cold Jet dry ice blasting rep, lots of decisions to think about.
The Areo 40 lists for 25-30K without an aftercooler, a gently used unit is probably the way I'll need to go.
