I wish the trucks that follow me home could be hung up in the shed. :(

Lathe will be an awesome thing to have going. Will you use it for wood too? I used to make pens with a small lathe, I guess I didn’t actually use wood, I like the plastic blanks, the colors were amazing.

Post some pics of any projects please. :)

Strout, just grab some big beam with those knuckle booms and lift away! You’ve got one on half the rigs, right? The other half can park under those.
The lathe will see mostly metal, but I’m open to tossing anything in it. Got a bad Asian knockoff mini quick change coming Thursday that I’m excited for. Need to cut a piece of 3/16 and tap it to hold the quick change.
Quality is questionable, but I’m thinking for my light use I can make it work.
Pics Thursday.

Grabbed this little strip sander this afternoon. 1/2 horse 1 by 42in strip. This will be a fine addition to my small metal working.
As we know space is an issue so I’ve got a plan to mount this and the 3/4 horse grinder on boards that will clamp in the woodworking vise seen in the pic.

Decided to try a cheap China quick change tool post. I’m not sure how this can even be manufactured and shipped across the globe for 35 bucks! I think it may work for my light lathe use. We will see in 2 days.
Needed to make a mount to fit my cross slide.
Started by thinning some 3/16 steel on the new strip sander.

And a pilot hole drilled on the 40’s drill press. It will need to be enlarged and tapped once I confirm the thread.
Fingers crossed it all works out.

Captain, I thought we weren’t talking about it?
A coworker offered up his 90’s Mongoose Rockadile. It’s all polished chrome and pre Mongoose going all offshore garbage, so it’s a decent bike of my kind of vintage. What was I to do? It’s a little small so tough decisions may have to be made, some day.

Whipped up a pair of bases to mount the grinder and sander to clamp in the vise. Really basic stuff here. Just needs hardware.
They will then store under the overhang at the end on the bench, but will need some funky shelves to kind of stack them.

This is not bad. I was concerned with how solid it would feel. I’m impressed for the money.
Reviews to follow as I use it.

Got the strip sander bolted down to my quick change clamp in the woodworking vise exchange system. Next is the grinder.

Captain, I woke up at like 3am last night with the 3/4 horse grinder staring at me from the nightstand. Freaked me out. That wasn’t going to happen again so it got mounted to its clampy base.

For those who zoomed way in on the strip sander you may have noticed that the weird center part of that Craftsman switch was broken, so I had been using the long Craftsman flat head screwdriver switch.
Thought I’d cut a plastic wedge, shape on the sander itself, and jam it in. Was planning on glueing, no need. Planned on cutting flush, but why? Now it’s got this massive paddle switch.

A buddy texted as this fell in his lap. I find lots of bikes, but I just don’t see muscle bikes, banana seats, ape hangers, or 70’s stuff as much as I’d expect to.
It will take some cleaning up. Definitely need to find it some clean wheels and just toss the fenders.

Wrapped up some carpentry on the camper today. 2 enlarged drawers in the kitchen to replace the ones half as deep and an enlarged step with added storage.
Used a couple scraps to get some soft jaws on the old Columbian.

Got a big deck redo planned along with an above ground pool.
Teaser, deck structure will get raised 14 inches to lose the 2 steps down from the doors. Much like the shed raising, but at 12 by 35, it’s a little bigger.
Today, the top came in for the little shed I picked up a couple weeks ago. Now the genny can have a home and clear some much needed floor space in the shed.

Summer has begun Strout.
Don’t worry, we are doing a new deck with an above ground pool.
Today’s dump haul.

Captain, what you see is what I got.
I saw the round cast of the Delta 1172 from a distance and actually thought it was one of those Craftsman alien head planer, but obviously a tenoning jig once I got up on it. I think it has everything to be functional, not sure on what else would have come with it.
Had to grab the Craftsman 109 lathe, cause they are just cool.
Both of these will get cleaned up and find new homes.
Also grabbed a long wood lathe. My father mentioned searching for one a few weeks back so that will go to him for Fathers Day. It’s homemade, but looks well done. Last night I noticed some interesting build choices that I’ll post later.

Same on the drive side. Absolutely genius! I’m guessing this was pretty common due to the simplicity, I’ve just never seen it.

Busy Strout. Just Busy.
Lots of stress over the kiddos and this remote learning hybrid model farce that will begin in September.
But, pool is up and nice. I’m trying to get in with the kiddos every day if we can. It was chilly tonight.
To backtrack, we ordered a 21 foot round above ground pool. Installation was way out and about 2g’s so we opted to just put it up ourselves. Got a excavator friend in to level an area and we got the pool up just before the 4th. A full day, but not hard. Just level those supports.
The deck has been ongoing. My brother in law has been a huge help. Decking choices, camping, and life has slowed the progress, but...
Here we are today. Actually pulled up this section to restart at the corner of the step and tighten my gaps. I’m happy.

Trying to minimize the goodies. Did grab a kids 20in fatbike. Had to fix the brakes and I thought my kiddos would be into it. They haven’t even gotten on it, so it will hit the Facebook. Got a bunch of little stuff to find new homes for.
Strout, I see your forklift fleet is competing with your suburbans...!

Glad you got the pool in, it has been hot, wish I had a pool, but GF doesn’t like the idea. Forklifts and burbs are everywhere for sure. I wish you luck with the school year, I think everyone with kids is going to need it regardless of location.

A friend was chatting with the wife over drinks. She learned they were having an in ground pool put in. 20 yards of nice clean fill was dropped in the yard.
Pool is in and the deck is coming along.
Now I need to deal with the dirt. I need it to level things off in the back, but I need to drop some trees aaaaaand the shed really isn’t where it should be.
So, the shed is going to rotate 90 degrees and slide back a little.
I’ve got a stack of 12’ 2x8’s from the old deck. I’ll join them into doubled up 24’ beams. Thinking three of those slipped under the shed and push with a buddies bobcat? Once in place I’ll jack and level for supports.

No video, didn’t take pics either.
Yeah, the bobcat with forks was a huge help along with a dude who can operate it.
The new shed position really opens up the yard. Next is that giant pine stump and then move dirt.

Strout, I don’t think I need a stump table in the middle of my future croquet court yard.
The stump destruction begins tomorrow. Also, should be grabbing a beat wide Vidmar in the morning.

Another Vid? My brother was clearing some trees on a military base, there were pallets of Lista cabinets going into the scrap pile, he tried to get some, but they said that no one can take them, they must be destroyed. :(
