I am not addicted to DeWalt tools but I do have a few of them. I just finish rescuing a DeWalt #384 circular saw (8-1/4") that my son found in the trunk of a car traded in at the dealership where he worked. If it was a cat it would have already used 11 of it's lives.

It had been well abused, judging by the way the shoe was bent like a potato chip it was probably dropped off of the second story a few times. The exterior was covered with gobs of sub floor adhesive and the inside was filled with stone dust. The motor housing had "junk" written on it in red marker. It looked at me with sad eyes so I decided to give it a chance to work again.

It did run and my son used it a few times but found it just too heavy for his liking. I took it completely apart, cleaned everything and blasted all of the aluminum parts with glass beads. All the bearings and electrical parts were good although I did have to spend about an hour using my shop press to straighten out the shoe base. She cleaned up very well, now all I need is a new blade.
Wow you did a great job on that foot plate I almost don't believe you! Hats off and thanks for sharing.

Thanks TOOL FANATIK, it did take a lot of work to get the shoe straight (or more accurately, close to straight). I didn't want to hammer on the aluminum (1/8") shoe so I just slowly massaged it with my press.

It may have skidded down the road at one time because the under side of the motor housing has been ground away (even partially through the screw that holds it on). It won't be mistreated from now on.

Hello
Is the Dewalt Model # DWST08202 part of the ToughSystem? Will it connect with the other cases in the system?

I think I have every 20v tool dewalt has. Today I got the last one today. 20v sliding miter. This will be my deidicated trim saw. So much better than lugging the big one around for the end of a job. I am a contractor so I can justify the enormous amount of dewalt stuff I have.

I went with Makita for my cordless setup but I've got quite a few corded Dewalt power tools. Wouldn't say I'm addicted though, just caught several things at really good prices.

Got the little 745 table saw, 12" miter saw, Sawzall, router with plunge and fixed bases, circular saw and a little DA sander.

I have a respectable 20V collection, but my cordless vac is a little unique. It doesn't come with any extension wands but standard size fits and I added some onboard storage for them. A dusting brush fits nicely in the air outlet and I don't use it often but it does diffuse the air output and direct it up instead of down at the surface you're vacuuming.1358eca1e42ba02c7f3bfcd75a72a856.jpg16aa6e4342eb2fc203b96eed5afdee7c.jpg

A few of my 20V tools I used to replace my wheel bearing last week. I got the impact wrench and 4AH battery recently and love them. Have been using it for a while and it still shows three full lights.

Just curious if anyone here has disassembled/reassembled the transmission on an 18V 1/2" 3-speed hammer drill (DC988 in my case).

I was cleaning mine and changing brushes and the transmission came out and all apart. Planetary gears are no problem but there are several other components that I seem to be having an issue with. I have it together but it slips and is really difficult to change speeds.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Anyone know if the old Metal Handle for the drills fits the newer Brushless drill? The DCD995 comes with a new black plastic handle. Just wondering if they are interchangeable.

Don't have many dewalt tools anymore, Used to have a bunch of the old 14.4 stuff but switched years ago. After picking up both there combo and ratcheting wrench sets I'm liking there hand tools so far. Now just have to find someone who sell's loose stock. I found some combo wrenches on farm and fleets website to add to the 10pc kits but none of the reversible ratcheting wrenches so far. I think those are a killer deal, feel better then my gearwrench and on par with my blue point set plus the head is smaller then my bluepoint set so they should come in handy.

I've had both and I don't think so, but you could take your handle down to the local big box and try it out.

I bought this handle for my DCD995. It's the exact same as the black polyamide plastic handle. I believe the metal is magnesium in this handle.

Got the newer impact wrench as a bare tool from hd. The LED is awesomely bright. I opted for the detent pin style thinking it would require a nail set or punch to remove the socket which oddly I prefer. I don't do speedy work anyway as I take my time and I only use 4 sockets with this impact.
I was a little disappointed when I realized the socket can be pulled off, tool free.

The 1/2" deep socket set I got from tsc store in my area, on clearance for $22.99. It's a steal and the case and socket holder in it are awesome. Came with two 1/4 hex -1/2 sq drive adapters.

The tough system radio the wife picked up for me for Christmas. I read the reviews and heard the hype. This thing lives up to the hype. LOUD. great sound, just awesome all around.

I got the new DCN660 20V finish nailer for xmas. It's barely even out yet.

We're renovating the house and it's already been put to work on some crown molding. Let me say, wow. This is the future. I've only ever used air guns before, but this thing feels great and has no issue driving with 2.5" 16ga nails through molding, plaster, lathe, and 100yr old studs.

I haven't tried it myself, but in the video above they shoot 4 nails/second through a whole clip and it never hesitates and is very consistent.

Just bought the DCD790 cordless drill.. 18v lithium ion brushless compact drill. Im impressed. I love this thing. It's very small and light, yet packs 60nm in torque.

I've been using it all day in the attic, drilling and screwing. I have never had i high performance / quality cordless drill prior to this so i cant compare to bosch makita milwaukee etc. But this thing is nice! I wish i had bought it sooner during my home and garage projects..

^that impact will dominate your lug nuts. I have the old 18v xrp version and it works very well on lugs. I have a track car that sees tons of wheel changes with it. The newer one has almost twice the torque!

The new XR 1/2" is so much overkill that I'm holding out for the new brushless 3/8 which I'm hoping will be a good fit for lugs and more useful otherwise.

Is there a 3/8 brushless on the horizon? Have a link?

I thought i read in an XR 1/2" impact review that it was the first in a line of new brushless impacts from DeWalt. Haven't heard much since though, so i can't say for sure. Gotta release one sooner or later, though.

Toolfanatic...how is the power on the new 1/2"? Lug nuts every time? I have the 3/8 brushed, won't always do them.

My friend this impact is wayyy overkill for lugs. You can get the brushed high torque impact dewalt has...that'll be just right for lugs. I use the new brushless impact for bolts torqued to 644 ftlbs. It takes 9 seconds to bust lose a 3/4 10 bolt torqued to 700ftlbs. This was with using the 4 amp hr battery and a1/2 drive to 3/4 adapter. The thing is a beast.

Cool. Now I really want one. I love my 3/8, but just wish it had some more power for disassembly. I have the brushless drill and impact driver, the specs on the impacts say the brushed has 5 more ft lbs but is slower rpms.

I admittedly haven't read the entire thread. But am I the only one who has bought Dewalt because I can get it pretty much anywhere? As an example Milwaukee and Makita are pretty much Home Depot territory. But I can get Dewalt at Lowes, Home Depot, Amazon, etc
