I have the hardhat light also.. mine is mounted to a hardhat. Yes, it's completely possible to wear it on your head, but it's not made to be comfortable that way on bare skin.. if you notice, some of these guys are wearing it over something, so take that into account. I don't have the headlamp, but I have others from Coast that are a lot smaller and more comfortable to wear. It'll all depend on what you find "tolerable". For me, personally, I think I'd get the headlamp if I wanted to wear it like that, but I wouldn't be buying batteries myself if it was for work. The hardhat light is much bigger, and has a rubber backing so it doesn't slip on plastic.. the only thing you're really giving up with the headlamp is the rechargeable battery. The hardhat light looks to be DESIGNED (obviously) to accept the larger battery, so it's kinda bigger than it would need to be using smaller batteries.. if your gonna use it ALOT then try it. It's better than burning though batteries all the time if you need to buy them yourself.

One thing you COULD try, is pick up the hardhat light and see if it's usable for you.. if not, you could always buy a $6 magnetic, and screw it onto the headpiece and make a mountable, adjustable magnetic work light. Then maybe try the headlamp..

Depends if you have the dollars to risk on trying. I can't promise you that you'll like wearing it on your bare head for hours. I didn't get the impression I'd enjoy it, but I'm sure it's something you can get use to if that's what you wanna do. The headlamp I'd be pretty confident in saying (without even owning it) you wouldn't mind wearing.

It's also possible to pick up some rechargeable batteries for the headlamp model.. or if that doesn't work for you, there is always other brands available. I know, Milwaukee kinda created a little bit of a void with the different designs. Everybody always wants the best of different models but sometimes it just doesn't work out like that.

I also don't understand why Milwaukee made two different headlamps. I bought the one for use without a hard hat, but it came with clips to mount to one... I love the light but hate that it goes through AAA batteries so quickly.

I may try the hard hat lamp and add a piece of foam or something to the back of the lamp for comfort. Charging the lamp each night when I am done in the garage beats replacing the AAA batteries every other night.

Picked up the M18 heat gun yesterday. Seems to work well enough. All I plan on using it for is heatshrink on wire splices inside of a car. Not needing to drag an extension cord out is a huge time saver. It was also incredibly easy to accidentally tip the corded model over as the tip was cooling. The battery pack at the bottom provides a lot more stability.

Can't wait to see the soldering iron reviews! That's next...

Obviously there is no comparison to a chainsaw. My 465 rancher eats wood. But I am not pulling it up into a tree. I am looking to get a good top handle saw at some point but I really don't have the money for that right now. Would you seriously prefer a handsaw to a hackzall? How would the branch not move more with the hand saw than the fast motion of the hackzall because of inertia.

Sent from my XT1635-01 using Tapatalk

Because with a say a green THIN branch, the blade of the m12 hackzall is only moving back and forth 5/8 of an inch.. say if you started the stroke of the saw close to its middle position, the branch only needs to move back and forth a tad over 1/4" to avoid the teeth of the blade from cutting into it. So on some branches (and keep in mind I don't know what your your idea of "trimming" is) the branch can just whip back and forth with the blade avoiding most of the cutting action. On a hand saw, some are designed to cut only on the down stroke, so if you start close to handle, and pull the blade, it's 10" , 12" of blade scoring the branch.

Last time I used the m12, I found myself sawing the whole tool back and forth with the trigger depressed to make a cut. It's like a 9" blade but your only using the first inch of it for most of the cuts. If your planning to cut solid branches that may not be the same experience for you. I'm always having to trim trees to make room to run utility lines, so I'm only cutting small stuff with it. So for me, most times, loppers and and hand saw are just easier than having to deal with a power tool and worry about it dropping or falling. Pruning blades are VERY aggressive and quick.

I mean by all means, if you're looking for a good excuse to get a hackzall - buy it and try it.. but I'd suggest getting a $20 pruning saw as well to at least try. You'll find what works best for you, as I can only tell you what I find works best for me..

And since we're talking tree trimming, those extendable pole mounted pruning saws are great. Ask around, a lot of guys that own them will tell you how good they are once you get used to how they cut, and it beats climbing a tree if you don't need to.

Here, check this out.. just to give you an idea of exactly how aggressive and efficient a pruning blade really is.. it's much faster cutting then most people expect. But here you can see how his only cuts on the back stroke. The teeth are designed to push over the branch when pushing forward, and cut when pulling back. All the pole mounted ones will be like this, and some of the hand held ones, but not all. Look at a Fiskars or Corona for a cheap $20 folding saw. They are worth the money.

Skip to the end of this vid. You'll at least get an idea of what a sawzall will do tree trimming. But keep in mind he's on the ground, using two hands, and can easily reach where he wants to be.. the m12 will not be as fast as that either..

Maybe that will help you decide what is the better option for you. At Home, I have a tree trimming set from Jameson that has 3 stackable fiberglass sections and a pruning blade that mounts on top. I do what I need to from the ground, but you might have different needs.

Lastly - keep in mind if you watch YouTube reviews on the hand pruning saws, the blades are designed to cut green wood, and not this dead dried out firewood a lot of the guys test it on.

I thought the bulk would annoy me, but its not that bad. It replaced my Black Diamond IPX7, which I used for the past 3 years or so for morning runs.... the Milwaukee is every bit as bright, and does not burn through 4 AAs.

Can't wait to see the soldering iron reviews! That's next...

I use mine an hour every morning at about 4AM, recharging every 2-3 days and not going through AAs (which even Li **** after about a 3-5 days in 0F use) was my biggest reason for trying out the Milwaukee. I now have maximum brightness EVERY morning when out with the dogs... you won't regret getting the hard hat, and you probably will not even mind the fit.

Edit: Forget Amazon. search Milwaukee 48-11-1850 on EBay &
some legit 5 AH batteries are under $60. $12 per AmpHour.
Close to the Ryobi 2 pk's at $80 for 2x4AH.
That's like a 9AH batt for under $108.

(Combo) Kits w/ batteries can sometimes be great buys though.

Almost ordered the M18 Gen2 1/2" but even the 2767-21 kit doesnt feel like a deal even at the $230 I can get it for, if it came with case or boot then it would be better.

Only a few things I ordered this BF-CM for me, many other deals to fund the addiction, do have the Milwaukee cooler on the way, KC will be jealous.

The Milwaukee addiction thread! 😊

Anyone use the M18 & M12 Rapid Charge Station? Is it worth the money? I have two or three chargers in the garage with batteries charging in them all the time it would be nice to consolidate into one unit.

I'm seriously considering pulling the trigger on a cyber monday M18 Fuel drill / driver kit plus the free impact. Should I have any reservations?

Also, I have a three year old makita drill that the battery dies after about 10 - 20 minutes of use. It's "good enough" for most projects since I have two batteries. What do you guys do with that sort of thing? Any luck selling it on craigslist for $50? or donate it to habitat for humanity? I don't want to throw it away but since I'll be joining team red, I'm not sure there's any use.

Re: The Milwaukee addiction thread! 😊

I have it and its the only charger I have used for 2yrs, charges 3 batteries at a time, one in each 12/18 bank. Rapid does a M12 2.0 in like 10-15 mins.

Was wondering the other day why the Gen2 big boy isnt One Key, would of been good time for them to stop having seperate Fuel and OK models.

I'm waiting on the soldering iron, the bare tool just popped up on AcmeTools, might have to order it. I thought about the heat gun, but my butane torch is a lot smaller for heat shrink in tight places.

Acme 20% is one use per account FYI

You can also use promo code MILW2017 (good til 12/15/17) to get an extra $20 off other milwaukee items from Acme.

I used the cyber monday 20% for the fuel 3/8 ratchet and then the $20 off for the boot and an m18 lantern in the same order. Just got me a dollar over the free shipping mark and saved a total of $50! (50 plus if you count the free shipping).:rocker:

Toolup.com also has $25 off using mil25.

Ditto, I'm not even considering the AAA model 'cause I'm done buying batteries and I'm not willing to pursue Eneloops or any other rechargeable letter-battery system.

So it's either the hard hat model or nothing for me.

Well Spee-Dee so far looks low Slow-Dee. It shipped on Saturday. It's currently in St. Cloud Minnesota. Maybe in a few days it'll meander it's way into Illinois.

Well, I now have the 2780 Fuel grinder on the way. :lol_hitti Model 48-59-1890PG
It's thanks to 20% off yesterday at AcmeTools. $204 w/ 4 inkzall markers.
Glad Milwaukee finally added another tool w/ the 9AH. Basically got the batt for $30-40 & a free charger.
Makes up for buying a case on Ebay for $30.
My small collection, for now, is: 2897-22 kit, 2760 Surge, 2720 Saw, 2731 Saw.
Cheap or old stuff: 2656 driver and 2663 impact wrench. HD is still selling it. :shocking: 450ft-lbs is still fine though.

my local HD had the heat gun on display going to be picking that up this Friday.. however I'm not sure how long it will last with the XC 18V battery? I only need it to install some sound deadening panels so not sure on the runtime.. I gotta get some larger batts.

Hey guys, check out this Milwaukee hand truck.. different Milwaukee I guess, dunno how that happens.. but I've never seen one like this. It's a folding, CONVERTIBLE hand truck w 150lb/300lb capacity for only $64.. I am definitely getting one for work.

https://www.homedepot.com/p/Milwauk...-Capacity-Convertible-Truck-DC73333/207155104

Oh, I am literally going through every search result for "Milwaukee" on the hd site looking for stuff to add to my Christmas wish list, or just something to add to my own list.. I'm running out of things to "want"

Also - the Fuel 1/2" and 3/8" ratchets (bare tool) are IN the store at my local hd. They took them out of the boxes while I was there.. they are hidden though. They have them at the m12 tool display end cap, but no display, and on the SIDES of the lower shelves. You'd never see them unless you actually looked for them.

I have a confession to make.. I went to hd after work to buy a Milwaukee stapler, the manual one.. NONE of the stores anywhere near me has them in the store anymore, it's an online only offering now. I EVEN looked for the m12 stapler, (on some jobs we do once a month, we need to drive in about a dozen staples, so that seemed perfectly worth it to buy a $100 cordless stapler to me). Suppose to be 3 in stock, nowhere to be found. I HAD to resort to buying a Dewalt model.. it took me 45 min to work my way to the register to actually do it..

And I actually have a question, cause I know **** about staples.. are "heavy duty staples" just the staples you'd buy for a staple gun like this t50 style, and are light duty staples just desktop staples? OR is there an actual "heavy duty" style staple actually labeled "heavy duty" for these guns, and every package of the t50 staples on the peghooks next to the guns are "light duty"? I couldn't find anything actually labeled heavy duty, and the gun has settings for heavy duty staples.
