Regarding ghost shield I have used it in two of my shops. The first out preformed the second by far. The initial finish of the slab is key as far as I have been able to determine. The first shop I built specifically for my self and specified the concrete to be 5000 psi and the finish to be “burned” slick like what you see in the high box warehouses. I applied a densifier to the concrete after 60days to bring the surface up to 6500 psi and then applied 2 coats of ghost shield. The floor repelled oil and dirt pretty well but would stain. The second shop I purchased and had unknown concrete mix strength. I added a densifier and ghosts shield. It still performs well but a better finish would have made it nicer. I like this over epoxy as I work my shops pretty hard and do a lot of welding and cutting. Epoxy can’t take that kind of abuse and still look nice.
Photos 1&2 are the first shop.
Photo 3 is the 2nd shop.
Great info and insight @phred ....
Love your shops.... The things you mention.. about the concrete strength (psi) I am not versed in.... I do know the slab is fresh and new and is about 5.5 thick. In 2 specific areas, about 7 inches thick (4x4) for a lift in the future.Thinking about a MaxJack due to building restrictions and of course cost on my build.(my ceiling height is 10 feet.)
To add to my ignorance on concrete..... what is a Densifier?
I do understand about grinding the surface or acid etching to clean the surface for bonding ability.
As I mentioned..... there will be some welding and some grinding in my work area of the shop..... so I will looking Ghostshield.
As for any heavy Fabrication... that will not take place.. I have a few good friends where I can go and perform that kind of work in the future if needed.
I really appreciate the info @phred ..... it's the kind of info I was looking for.

We got the office nearly squared away with the windows.. trim done and in, electrical nearly wrapped up and the rear wall is being completed by the weekend.
.......Even like my old 1990's Home Depot 5 dollar sconces.... they fit well with the look.
Exterior corner trim will be picked up soon..... I would like green if locally available. if not.. black will do just fine.

We continue forward.

Jeff,
Ghost shield 4500 is a densifier. It increases the strength of top 1/4” or so of the concrete surface. Makes it a little more resistant to damage but more importantly it makes it less susceptible to absorbing oils and the like at least that is how the concrete coating rep explained it to me. I then used one of the ghostshield penetrating sealers and then a mop on wax to achieve some shine and additional stain resistance The beauty of the wax is as it wears away you can easily recoat it and be back to a decent looking floor in a couple hours instead of days if you wrecked epoxy IMG_3083.jpeg

So.... haven't got much to report.... work and family has eaten a ton of time. and with the present schedule for the next few weeks... it will be the same.
I did manage to get a bit of the office floor laid out... Dri-core subfloor and a few planks for a test fit...... went down easy... I will be using a tall baseboard in the future to clean and tidy all.
And the office entrance wall is now wrapped up using left over strapping scrap... very ruff 1x3 in a staggered design.... Better than to waste it.

I hopefully can start moving in my stuff as soon as the to garage doors are delivered and installed.
Seems to be on the hurry up and wait list.... But I really want to get rid of the big sea can holding my stuff.

I say this and my inner plan is by End of April..... (yea... right)

Well,.. an Update.I personally have not been able to work in the shop and help.. just far too busy with deadlines and that will continue for another week.
I plan to take about 4-5 days within the last week of March. into April to start to unload my stuff in sea cans.
Saying that. there has been very good progress from my pal George.
Ceiling is completely done and for the most part... the main floor electrical.

Garage doors arrived and installed... went with a side mount openers.... Outside the soffits are done.. and trim work.
On a side note.. the color I was choosing for the outside steel to wrap the building was a soft yellow that matched our home.
Trouble is.... it seems to be a special order or hope and wait they run it in the summer....
I don't want to pay for "Special" order or wait.... actually..... can't wait.....
Special order was going to be nearly double the cost.. and that's just not going to happen.
So I went with white...... The shop is not attached to the house and its sits behind.... so. it will have to be that way....

No pics of that yet.. the rear and side have already been installed.

Well. a bit more done..... one of the dormers is now sided and will look good in a brown to match the exposed porch beams.... again.. cost comes into play as a product I wanted was 3x the amount per dormer...
This works and I am happy with it.
The rest of the roofing steel arrived for the Porch roof portion and hopefully all should be together by end of the week.

I had planned on finishing the Studio Area Floor but ran out of Dry-core(need to grab 3 squares to complete..... )
....so I turned my attention to the exterior of the Mechanical room.
I used up what I had left of the 100 year Barn roofing on the left side and did a half wall on the front entrance area.... I plan to paint all in a flat white like the rest of the shop.
I wasn't fussy about the fitment on the top area of the left side.. because it all will be covered up with giant 40 inch overhang cabinets that will run from the mechanical to the length of the underside bench area...(see the fast mock up)
After that I will begin to hang doors.

I must acknowledge the Man who has done 99% of the work.. my buddy George Lantz..... he has taught me a TON on this project and to a lesser degree my brother in-law .. who I text regularly with and ask his opinion.

Anyhow..... George is the MAN.

Apologies.I have not kept up on this thread.. things evolved quickly.
A very long winter.. hard n Cold. and a real horrible spring... Never stopped raining from mid March until about a week ago.
Made things miserable.
And of course. a few days of warmth and sunshine.. and the black flys are out with a vengeance.

The shed is 80% completed and nothing done up stairs..... that will be used for storage for the time being(and I really need it.)

The push was on to get rid of the sea can Containers and get stuff into the Shed.
It's taken me about a month to get to this point..... I am a self admitted Hoarder.... of just dumb junk. Before even moving, I sold 50% of my stuff.... that took a ton of counselling.
hahaha

Anyhow..... here is where I am at now.....

The Office is in a real state...I have yet to un pack 50% of stuff.... and I have so much Art and photography from friends, my own,... and things that inspire me...I will have a long time getting that stuff out and up...if that's even possible.
I also have 5 engines that need to come home and god knows where that stuff will go...

Needed also is a router to get a good internet connection installed..... wiring is there.... but I need that done by the weekend to move my office into this shed.(getting heat from the family to get out of the house.. hahahah.)
But the basics are done....

Jeff the place looks awesome even in the “state” it is in. Enjoy the process of nesting because soon you’ll need more space. Love it!!!
