If you move that Beetle, shine the light from behind the project car, trace an outline on the wall, and cut/paint boards to follow it - you might have a cool car profile to match the Bowtie on the back wall. Not sure how high that exhaust hood is going to be, however, so that could foil it.

GJ is a strange vortex, as I was driving by a truck and trailer stacked full of old fence being hauled away, I though TB could use those he has been looking for more to finish up the shop. I then realized the freight from Texas to the PNW might be more than you are willing to endure. I guess it is the thought that counts.

Glad your fence guy came through or I was going to have to start shipping boards from here.

I don't know why I never checked out this build before.

Must be the "pedestrian" title. Anyways the place looks awesome and the low cost angle only improves it.

I have an idea if you haven't sorted out the mismatched doors. How about using some glass attached to the face of the door to make your marker board. I have a couple pieces that am going to use in my shop for a white board surface.

Thanks for stopping by nkachur. The white board idea would work if the cabinets were a little lower.

I recently discovered a surplus building materials place in Seattle that has just about everything. I can probably source a cabinet there that is a little better match.

Great looking bug...she should love that car, they are GREAT! I've had mine for 34 yrs...it doesn't look half as good as hers but it runs!

I haven't got a whole lot done lately. I took a short fall from my shop desk to the concrete almost two weeks ago. My ribs were mighty sore. They were getting a lot better when all of a sudden they got a lot worse. Sooo, I hobbled down to the ER, got an xray and found out I had one fractured rib. It's always something haha.

Before that happened I managed to put up a little bit of slat wall the I got at Habitat a while back. This will be for shovels, rakes and other implements of destruction. I don't like how the paint turned out so I'll probably take it down and do another coat or two. I also need to find some hangers for it.

Earlier this week I trekked down to the University of Washington surplus store to check it out. There're only open to the public on Tuesdays from noon 'til six. I'm definitely going back. I got a five drawer lateral file cabinet for $20 and the other cabinet for $15. The tall cabinet with doors is almost 7' tall. Someone forced the door at some point but it's an easy fix. I already picked up a new lock for it and I can straighten out the latching hardware. I suppose I'll have to paint them too.

Those file cabs will hold a LOT of weight. I've got one like that and one drawer is full of gears and other heavy things...it glides real easy. Now, if we could just get cheaper toolboxes that did the same thing...

Hey Nighttrain! Haven't seen ya in a while. You're probably busy with the tank truck stuff. The file cab will be for tools like my worm drive and portra-band. I might get rid of the two smaller cabinets.

Sunshine!??!!!! That'd be nice. The merchant's car show is today in downtown
Arlington. I'm gonna go down there and wander around for a while. It's only about 10 minutes from home.

The surplus store is on 25th NE 4500 block so not too far from the hospital. There's a link below although they have a lot more than what they show online. As a bonus, the guy who writes the descriptions is pretty funny.

There's another place in Seattle called Second Use that's got a huge inventory of just about everything related to building. They're pretty proud of anything that they can mark "vintage" but it looks like there are some really good deals on other things. I haven't been there yet but I'm planning on going. Maybe after they move to the old Alaska Copper buildings on 6th Ave so.

Hey TB-66, you mentioned sore ribs awhile back in my thread but I never thought it was going to lead to an ER visit. Dang! Never cracked a rib myself, but I hear it's pretty painful. Good luck with the recovery. And have fun with those new cabinets.

Yes, hopefully we have fulfilled the injury quota for a while. I'm feeling much better, only bad when I cough.

I've been pretty busy with spring (summer?) cleanup on the property, getting ready for my wife's beloved chickens, ripping the floor out of the living room, etc. I had to take a break for about 3 weeks after my experiment with levitation.

I'm rollin' again now though. I just about finished the fence board project yesterday. Just a little trim to do. Massive mess cleanup today. I'll have some pics in a day or two.

THE TWENTY-FIVE CENT TOUR............


Since I'm all done with the fence board project and the wall insulation I thought I'd step back and do a bit of a retrospective just for fun. The acquisition and and installation of the dang fence boards took just about a year. It started out to be just one wall and then took on a life of it's own. I was just along for the ride.

Okay, here we go around in a circle (rectangle?)..............

When you first enter you are in the little office. I'm not done with this room yet. It still needs the ceiling sheetrocked and the floor done. I'm pretty sure this floor will be ceramic tile. It's got all I need.......computer, printer, stereo, 26" led tv that I rarely watch.

This is the wall that got me started..

Around the corner. The plumbing is all roughed in but I have no septic system yet. I may do a dry well in the interim so I can at least have water.

The shop desk that I rarely sit at.......

The boards on this north gable end were the final pieces of the puzzle.

Starting down the west wall....

Some wall art. A set of old headers that came with the Chevy II and an Edelbrock Performer that got overheated so bad that it warped. Gonna get that blasted so it looks better.

The west wall also. The drill press was my Dad's. It's a Japanese Jet about 25 years old. It's a nice machine. The Craftsman bench grinder also belonged to him.

Down into the SW corner. That's the metal (Steelcase) cabinet I just got for $15. This area still needs some organisation.

Some slatwall from Habitat restore. I ordered some hanger brackets for it but they're not here yet. All the garden tools will hang there until I can build a house for them and the mower.

It is nice to reflect back! Kind of a hassle to get enough material but worth the trouble. I'm forever grateful to the fence man who provided me with all but one small load of boards. Mike @ Affordable Fence if anyone needs a fence south of Seattle!

That's the way I feel about my heel - 80% - I'll take it! I look at it this way - the other foot is 100% so I guess that puts me back up to 90% overall, and that ain't bad.

I just read thru this entire thread; it's a slow day at work today. The finishing off of the end cabinet and the homemade bowtie are 2 of the coolest things I've ever seen. I was telling the wife the other day that I'm tired of leasing because I want to do my garage like I want. Lol. Of course that's not the only reason, but a pretty big one. Anyway, I love the garage. Keep up the great work.
