Nice how all the split points are lined up - you knew I would be looking in, didn't you? :) If you're going to take a picture, it may as well be a nice one.

The index is really cool.

Today I finished the wall around the bathroom and behind the desk. Not exactly finished-I still need to do a little framing and go up about 3' to hide the storage. I also need to think of some clever way for access to said storage:headscrat.

I got that chair you see there I bought yesterday at the Habitat store for $3.75:).

that looks sharp! Very cool.

Ok, since I've been accused of being a slacker:D, here are a couple pics of the dark side or dark end I guess.

The south end has become a repository for assorted junk, furniture, paint cans and auto parts. I'm starting to insulate down there so everything is getting drug out. Some to the dump, some to Habitat (Tuesday) and the rest will get stored in a solution that is yet to evolve.

Next week I need to do a little work on the Impala. After that the old '78 Chev P/U needs some attention on the fuel system. Then, finally, the VW will get moved over into bay one and the motor comes out. When it comes back out of there it will be back in it's owner's (my wife) loving arms. It shouldn't be too bad of a job:eek:.

Once the VW moves I can get everything on that end organized. And if I do it right a car won't be able to fit in that bay anymore:)

Nice to seem pics of a shop actually being used and messy...some of these shops are cleaner them my house...then again I have a 2 year old!:lol_hitti

Sweet! 14/3 Triple plug.
How do you like it so far?

So far so good but it's only been a couple days. It retracts with no problems. I need to move it as it's plugged into a box for a future light circuit and it won't work unless the switch is on. I'll put it near the gdo. 50' will reach all over the shop and well out into the yard.

Well go get some and drive them up here to me! :D I just found 7 sections in a alley. But this time of year they are hard to find, nobody is replacing fences when there is 1.5 feet of snow on the ground. This spring there will be a lot of them.

Spring, that's probably when I'll get more. No snow here but still not many fences going up. I got hooked up with one small fence contractor who has supplied all but one batch of mine. He calls me when he has a job coming up. Nothin' lately. I missed hundreds of them on CL a couple weeks ago by about 15 minutes. They were all taken apart and neatly stacked. Dang:mad:

Great work! Great resourcefulness. CL is great thing if you live in an areas such as you do. I glance at that CL too and lots of opportunity. Here not so much on CL.
Grew up in the PNWet and enjoy seeing your pics of your place.

Thanks Flatland............CL has been good to me. It's kinda hit and miss but it usually comes through at some point.

SoDak seems like a good place to find old car projects or at least it used to be. I remember seeing a lot of ads in Auto Trader from Rapid City.

That would be sweet if he needs to get rid of some. I left a note in your thread regarding that.

More boards.......yay. I picked up about 80 feet of fencing today so I can make some more progress. The same fence man is taking down 240 lf of cedar fence next week and I've got first crack at it. That should take me home:D

I'll get them pressure washed and trimmed up as some as I finish this bit of fun:

Dumb question...How do you know the fence boards you are getting aren't infested with termites or something that may come out when it warms up? I'd like to steal this idea from you for the interior walls of my (hopefully soon-to-be) 2 car detached, but I'm concerned about accidentally ending up with termites or other bugs inside the garage where there used to be none...

Thanks.

Ahh gettin' first dibs probably feels real good.

By the way I am still a little jealous of that drill holder - looks so cool!

The black on the corner trim gives in the perfect modern touch to an otherwise old school look. Great combo.

Paul, wouldn't a little cover over those intakes be a good idea? You wouldn't want anything falling down in there.

Great job on the fence salvage.

My wife is gonna hate you. She's gonna hate you when I pull up with a truckload of salvaged fence panels and I tell her it was all your idea!

I guess it's hard to know for sure but I see no evidence of pests, i.e. holes and stuff. I cut off any bad wood and pressure wash everything, then dry it in a warm room and I have yet to see any bugs except a couple of spiders that rode home with me.

Thanks Dave, it is nice to get first dibs. I've gotten most of my boards from this same guy so we have kind of a casual friendship going on. Plus, I always take all the crummy stuff along with the good so he has less cleanup. Win-win.

Good point Tim! As much of a fumble fingers as I am that would (will) be a very good idea. In that pic it's going back together and I really don't want to have to take it back apart:sad:. The infamous GM 3.4 intake gasket. The car has 186K on it and I'd like it to last another year. Then I'm gonna get a diesel truck, probably a Cummins.

My wife is gonna hate you. She's gonna hate you when I pull up with a truckload of salvaged fence panels and I tell her it was all your idea!

C'mon, two wives hating me would be a bit much. J/K my wife puts up with me.

Just finished up 40 pages of posts...you are going to get me in so much trouble! Truly inspired by what you've done, you've given me the kick in the backside I needed to get my garage project started. Don't have the bottomless checking accounts that some here at garage journal have (not knocking them, just envious) but i'm amazed at wht you've been able to do with used/bartered material. Not exactly sure where to start, but hope to have my own thread started here soon.

Haha, the more people I can get into trouble the better;). My checking account definately has a bottom and it's not that far from the top.

A lot of 'my' ideas were stolen right here on GJ. By all means start a thread as soon as you can. This place has a lot to do with what my garage is turning into. Once you start there is no stopping:D. Most of the people here are great. You can learn a lot. I've made some really good cyberfriends here over the last year.

Welcome to the jungle:thumbup:!

Looks some uncharted territory back there! Better get cracking. I don't want to feel obligated to call you a slacker again. Don't you have like all week to work on this stuff? (It's my GJ duty to give you a hard time, you know - it's right in my forum sign-up contract) :):)

Seriously, the extinguisher and first aid station are a great detail. Hopefully neither one will be used, but it's nice to know there are handy if you need them.

That pic is about three messes ago!! I cleaned that up then did some auto repair and now it's messed up again while I insulate. My latest fence boards are dry now so today I start nailin' some up. Should have some progress pics in a day of two.

Cripes, I just looked out the window and it's snowin'. Geez........

SNOW!? Talk about incentive to get the shop fully insulated (and heated, heh-heh), mother nature is providing you that little extra push to get the shop done. Good for you on getting the new batch of boards prepped for installation during the lull of lousy weather!

Haha. Paul, I feel your pain. It is starting to warm up though, slowly!

Garage remodeling takeover, round II coming up!

At least I got the pressure washing done. It was only pouring down rain when I did that. Then, last night about 9 it started snowing again and kept it up all night. About 3".

ANOTHER WALL CHECKED OFF!!

I got quite a few usable boards out of the last batch I scored. Previously, I made it to the post about center of the cabinets. I was able to finish that section and the next section down to the corner. I used cut-offs to trim around the posts. I also got the black board on that separates the fence boards and the OSB.

I've got enough left to get a ways around the corner then I'll need to get more boards. Gotta call Mr. Fence Guy tomorrow. I'm gettin' there!!

I just spent the last few hours reading about your build and I must say I am a fan. I like using reclaimed materials whenever possible. I especially like the use of fence boards on the walls. My son and I just bought another house and we are planning on following your lead with the fence boards. The picture below is my small work bench complete with donated book case cabinet with underside lights. Solid core door cut down for work bench top. legs were reclaimed fence posts. Nice job on your project.
