We have been off and on rain since about 4 this morning. They think it is going to rain all night too, even some possible thunderstorms. I guess we may end up with 4" after 36 hours. All I know is the roof repair is holding, so at least that issue is off my plate for at least another year or two. ;)
Did you use the satewide standard, traditionally correct blue tarp from Mardens?😆

I used 15 mill PVC, then put the old billboard tarp over it, I also used butyl rubber under the strapping to seal any water out, and I cut down pressure treated 2x4s to make my strapping, then used 3M flashing tape to seal any loose ends. It should be good for a while. I plan on rubber roofing, but I need some help and spare time to do that.

I am currently fighting the internet, I had issues with Ethernet cable running to the office froM the house, so I started using MoCa boxes to feed signal and pull it back out of RG6 cable. It worked great before we ran new cables to the office, now I can’t get anything to work. I even had the electrician do the compression fittings, well. I think that none of them are working. I have just made a trip to Home Depot and got a tester and a different brand of compression fittings and a different crimper and stripper. I also bought a different brand of cable to see if that makes a difference. I had two old rolls of nice RG6 cable and it had a much thicker jacket, so the compression fittings would not go on correctly. I bought all new cable and they still went on hard, but at least they looked like they should. Anyways, I have dragged the cable modem around and plugged in at the main locations with varying success, so I think the fittings are the problem. Got to learn how to do it right and get it done. I now have no office and no internet at all and I have to get stuff done. :(

Yup.

Coax tester revealed the problem is the main line from the house to the shop. I installed new connectors on both ends and it still tested bad from both directions. I guess I will have to pull a new line through and start over. At least now I have an easier way to see if things are good, I like that.

I always tested the roll before I started running coax. You can't imagine how many times there'd be a dead spot in a new roll.

I had thought about that, guess I will do that before I run any new stuff. I need to move a bunch of things before I have decent access, going to be tougher by myself.

I just got to my PT appointment, was at the tower site setting things up for the crew. I am going back to the Hill, but only to get the air compressor and a blow tube so I can clean out the culverts before we add the riprap. Then I am going to get all the trash loaded and out of the site, should make things look a lot better overall.

Kay, did you just do a resistance test or actually put connectors on?
Both. I want to know continuity, resistance, and datacomm capability, before I stick it in a wall or overhead. I was in IT in every role for 43 years. I've seen a lot, and bad cable rolls are just a small part of the DOA **** I've had to deal with.

Funny, not funny. The crew I am using works for one of my cousins, they called me at 2:45 and asked where I wanted the gravel, because they weren’t going to get to it today. WTF? Anyways 3:30 they are rolling out, I am like it doesn’t get dark until after 7. Kind of annoyed, I could do most of the work myself if I had a dump truck here.

I am going to clean out the culverts now, but 3:30????

Guess what age group they are.

May not necessarily be age group.... At the company I work at, the crew guys start at about 5:30am and are done at 3:30pm. 4-10's and done for the week. Some of them have kids to pick up, etc. i.e. they have a life outside of work.

To them, it's a job, to you, it's a grander scope. there-in lies the difference......

Things have certainly changed in the workforce, I can understand why everything takes twice as long as it should, they only work half as much. When doing this type of work you do it to get it done, at this rate it will take the entire week to finish up what should be three days.

As for starting at 5:30, they didn’t get here until after 8:30, so I hope they didn’t turn a 35 minute commute into 3 hours. And it is true, most likely not an age group, but a group mentality. They also spent more time worrying about where to get lunch than anything, they all had coolers too. The biggest gripe I had was that there was always someone doing nothing, that shouldn’t happen, I am paying $300 an hour for them. I just need to buy a mini excavator with a wrist, I could do everything with that by myself. Maybe next year, got to get through this year first.

I have one culvert almost cleaned out, slow going by myself, I would really like to get them both done tonight and be able to get the air compressor out of my trailer.

I would need it for a month, even when I schedule a day things always get messed up. I am not sure how much longer Dad plans on keeping things up and running, he keeps hinting at selling, that would be about two years, so if I invest in the mini, I can use it to make a living along with all my other toys, err, tools.

;)

No pictures, but second culvert is clean and I am headed to the Hill to unload, then home to look over a lease agreement our attorney drafted for the family towers, I am supposed to find all the flaws that three of the five siblings can use against the other two. I can say for sure it is going to be an interesting lease with some odd language just to protect my Dad and my good Aunt.

At the end of the roll through car wash in town it faces a fairly deep ditch running along the road. There is a culvert running underneath the road that every spring has a family of ground hogs in it .Usually 3 to 4 pups.

The cats surrounding the local recycle center all live in the storm sewers. :)

Not easy to load with a mini excavator, it can be tough with the Mitsu.

We are getting closer, still plenty to do, engineer wanted all the vines and brush cut off the sloped riprap, that has been fun for sure. I think tomorrow the bulk of things will be done, then it will be the nit picky stuff.

When I used to drive tractor trailer dumps a lifetime ago and the loader wasn’t quite up to the task the operator would build up a ramp for the loader or dig a wide trench to drop the trailer down some or both.
