I think the ice bag would be my next step. After that, checking that connector, then maybe swap out a computer for a known good.
Did you swap out the PMD? Remote it?Unfortunately swapping a computer out is not easy, the computers are matched to the VIN and need to be reprogrammed.
If the ice doesn't work, then the next step is the wiring harness. Regardless, the timing needs to be adjusted again, I am out of spec at the -1.41, it is supposed to be -0.25 to -0.75
It is a remote mounted flight systems PMD, it is on an aluminum heatsink with a fan, when all of this first started, I tried swapping it with another brand new flight systems and it did exactly the same. I did not swap the harness, but the water did not go anywhere near that harness, just on the front of the injection pump, near the fuel shut off solenoid. The have a new lift pump and when this issue occurs, there is still plenty of fuel flowing, so this has to be something in the injection pump itself, I figured the cooling of the water was the key. Until we get the timing where it should be, I don't want to chase any problems other than replacing the starter.I think you have said PMD is remote, known issue is bad extension cables? What kind of PMD, flights systems seem to be the only good one left, even the supposed fix by stanadyne gray ones fail. Who rebuilt the injection pump? Hopefully a stanadyne rebuilder? Did you put clear hose on pump to injector lines? Do you have fuel pressure gauge? 6.5s will make you pull your hair out or possibly take a 3lb hammer to the whole freakin' vehicle.Wouldn't be my choice for a daily driver. A burb with a 5.7 would be a better choice IMHO
It is always tough to see what is going on when you are too close to it, hindsight is always twenty-twenty as well. Are there things I would do differently, absolutely, are there things I wouldn't do at all, sure. I was all set to buy what I considered a good choice for a DD, but the condition and price of used vehicles right now is absolutely ridiculous, literally double what they were last year. I am not in the market for a new vehicle, but I also don't want to pay twice what a used one is worth. On top of that, between the trailer tires/rims and an unplanned plasma table purchase, I have to wait a little to build up my reserves again. I am always trying to acquire things to make my future easier, I probably need to work on the present for a while.A lot of people on here try to help steer you in the right direction, but you don’t seem to see it or don’t want to see it.
I didn't get any water near any fittings. If we can't get the timing within spec I will need to investigate the optical sensor and then the wiring, and finally the computer. You might have a cracked fuel line/fitting that's letting air in the system to lose prime, cold water will shrink the crack/pin hole to let the pump work.
I think you would only need to reprogram the vin for inspection purposes. You should be able to swap them for testing purposes.I am looking at how to refresh the ECU, it seems I can do it with my equipment, this would allow me to swap computers for testing purposes.
Nope, they won't even start if you don't program the VIN. I don't know about the gas ones, so they may be plug and play, but the diesels are not the same.I think you would only need to reprogram the vin for inspection purposes. You should be able to swap them for testing purposes.
My guess is that it always happens away from home where it is easy to find water(like in the drinking bottle that you're carrying), but not easy to find either ice or hot water. How about trying very hot tap water next time and you’ll know whether it’s a water making a connection or temp issue in one test.
Same here. I work for an automotive OEM and i can't stand the **** we're working on.I have no interest in driving a new vehicle. I want to make older vehicles like new and drive them until the guberment has to pry them from my cold dead hands.....
Freon/Chill spray in a rattle can.I don’t think have one.
