Wow! Thank you very much. Thanks for issuing the the Challenge and donating the bounty. I have visited your website many times wishing for a set. I have imagined many things in life that can be improved with some dimple flare!
These will be put to good use, I can see a filing cabinet now with a **** load of dimples in it. Did manage to find a little heavier gauge metal, 17 gauge from an old furnace. It definetly was not as easy as the proir piece, but still came out looking well.

Hey guys, been a while.
The Spouse n I have been together for long enough that flowers and chocolate no longer cut it any more for Valentines day. So I got creative.
She has wanted shelves in the house stairway to the bedrooms for a while.
So here is how I got me some bedroom points using some dimple dies...

I had some pine planks that I could re cut in two's for the shelves and some 5052 .065'' thick Alu. sheet in stock. I used the width of the re cut board as a starter point and then made myself a cardboard template to layout a bunch of brackets. Then off to the shear to cut out some blanks.




With all the brackets cut out. I buffed them BEFORE making holes in them. Buffing things with holes in them is difficult not to mention dangerous.



After punching out the dimple hole with my Harbor freight knockout punch and bending the flanges. I gave the brackets a slight buff to get the small scratches from the break out. NOTE: I am not holding the bracket in the hole so as to not depart with my fingers should the part grab!.



A little paste.



Ready for dimpling. I love this setup for production.








A bit of a wipe with Acetone and there ready for mounting.



With a bit of a hand from my Son. We put them up before she got home.
A few spots to touch up with stain here and there. otherwise done.











Boy was she happy! Now I have to find some other project to keep my points going.

Small dimple job on my son's V65 Honda bobber.

He needed a new battery box to be able to tuck a new smaller battery up under the new seat support structure and out of sight once the new side covers are in place.

We have a set of Claude's dies but used a slightly different size die set for this project, and a slightly unconventional method for making the holes. See the YouTube video clip linked below.

All fab done in-house in our workshop out back behind the house.

I bought some dimple dies a year ago and never used them so I decided to build a pair of steps for my dump trailer.

just found this thread looking for dimple options. I have an offroad buggy based on a VW chasis. What I want to do is put a hole/dimple for strength in the pan at the lowest point (behind the front seats) to make it easier for clean out. somewhere for the water to go.

problem is havent found much in the way of doing this, most die sets arent functional for use in the middle of a pan.

Nastyzen is the in house go-to guy for flared hole dies around GJ.

If I bought a new set I would certainly buy from him.

I've got TMR dies, they're definitely not from them. The finish on the TMR is of much better quality, those almost look cast.

They do kinda look that way but it just the finish on them, they are actually very smooth. Believe it or not!

Test the surface hardness. TMR heat treats and QPQ (liquid nitride) their dies so they are pretty damn hard. Just by looks I'd say it's not theirs and what you have is a cast die judging by the insignia.

For some reason that capacity was important feature to me when I purchased them.

If your really interested in a set shoot me a PM; I would be willing to let these go and trade them out with a set from Nasty.

That was my next question whats the good bad on pipe vs. Standard size?

The pipe size dies can be used in conjunction with the HF hydraulic hole punch. You can use the unit to cut and flare. I use the unit for flaring but have to hole saw, then de-bur every hole.


The HF hydraulic punch unit it the best possible means of creating dimples with dies.

Well I might as well post this up finally, I see this thread has been a little quite lately. A simple stand for the belt sander didn't sound stylish enough. Next time will be a welded pedistal. It's made from 16 gauge satin finish steel.

I'm curious why they make them in pipe sizes. I guess if you were building a structure out of pipe, and wanted gussets that the pipe could slide through? I make a lot of stuff out of pipe, maybe those are the dies I should get...

I didn't realize conduit was measured like pipe, now I see why.
