Another engine done. 3 to go now! It was one of those days where it was 3 steps forward and one step back. I’ve never taken a race motor, or any small motor actually, completely apart. Especially one with a gearbox. But each one will be freshened up and ready for the race season soon. Some motors had rebuilds not long ago, but were in the flooding in Northern Washington in December. I thought it was best splitting every engine as I did not know if there was any sediment in the bottom ends. Some were good, while others needed attention. Probably overkill by replacing all bearings including rod bearings.

Here was the inside of my trailer after rescuing my equipment.

Good couple of days in the shop. Got to work on prepping a couple of karts that I need to sell as my daughter is moving onto racing cars this season. We will still keep a few karts for keeping the skills up.

This will be the focus for her this year.

Winter just does not want to loosen its grip yet. But Spring is literally just around the corner according to the weatherman. So, quickly put a skid plate on my son’s bike that I had meant to last year. Hopefully the two of us find some opportunities to do some rides together.

northern33, very nice abode! thank you  for taking the time to share with us. Agree with all the sentiments... a garage worth dreaming about. I may have missed it or not wanting to share, but do you race/involved in racing for a profession? do all your kids "race"? I try to keep up with alot of racing styles (nascar, trans-am, Indy) mostly.

I’ve been out of racing since the midpoint of the COVID issues. Became too difficult to travel from Canada and at that point I had spent a lot of years away from the family. So, I made a decision that it was time to put the helmet away for a bit, sort of…. At that point I was racing in IMSA (WeatherTech, Michelin Pilot Challenge and Super Trofeo) as well as SRO and a few SCCA races. I made some amazing memories; finishing 2nd in the 24hrs of Daytona, winning an entry to the 24hrs of LeMans (COVID ultimately stripped that opportunity away), an LMP3 championship and some great wins and podiums along the way with special people. But, spending more time at home allowed me to enjoy kart racing with all 4 of my children. I was incredibly fortunate to enjoy the sport with all of them! I’m left with one that is crazy as me and is starting her motorsports career.

She’s started the transition from karts to cars now and will be racing Radicals this year. Karting is still a big thing in our family though. She put her kart together today actually and did a break in on the stand.IMG_2155.jpeg
