Yes they were locking in 43 but no release buttons, still used release tool. I am usually in a hurry when I work on stuff, switching sockets frequently. That lock on feature would just slow me down.

So here is an operational 7/16" drive Torkflash wrench. The previous owner came up with a simple solution adapting the use of a modern AAA battery with a piece of corrugated plastic wiring conduit and a spring that appears to have come from a robust old school click type writing pen.IMG_2368.JPGIMG_2369.JPGIMG_2370.JPGIMG_2371.JPGIMG_2372.JPGIMG_2375.JPGIMG_2374.JPG

Thanks for your guidance, I don't follow Ebay much but I will see what I can find.
In that case, I guarantee you that if you dropped that entire lot, including the bomb box, on Ebay, it would land well north of 600 dollars. In extreme cases, you'll see a bidding war and it could end like this.

I'm holding the cardboard core of a roll of dog poop bags that is just smaller than a AAA battery. Cut to length and slit down the side and it would be perfect--except for the "recycle me!" stamps all over it. 💩

Hey guys, If anyone of you would want one of these "Service Proved" stickers, send me your request. I have a few more and would sell them at $3 ea. no charge for mailing. You would have to risk sending cash ONLY though thru the mail but hey I think we all risk more than that every day by even messing with old vintage tools in the first place!
This is a sure-fire get rich scheme for me as you may suspect as this market is HUGE. haha. I am sure this time I might come close to covering the postage!
And If you think this is out of line here then so be it and report me to all authorities.
Oh yes, and don't forget to include your mailing address in the PM OR conversation as I think it is called now.

just an FYI for somebody who might be interested:
Blackhawk 3310 Q.D. Tee Handle 1928 Frankfurth Hardware Co. catalog pp 1890.jpg

(the patent is 1574136 : https://datamp.org/patents/displayPatent.php?pn=1574136&id=10529)

(* as the comments on the datamp.org site note, Blackhawk was using that handle prior to the patent having been issued. the item appears in earlier catalogs, but the above catalog snip was the earliest clear image I found.)

If anybody is interested, here are my Grandfathers Blackhawk (and Williams) 1/2” Drive tools, from the U.K. I’ve posted some odd pics before, but never the full set.

The Blackhawk is all Whitworth sized, and was acquired to maintain the Bedford trucks the family operated. The Williams tools are all later, and are SAE sized. These were needed when American trucks were acquired during the war.

These, and other similar sized tools, were stored in the home made trays you see, which slid into a large first world war vintage ammunition box. This lived on Grandfathers bench, but was portable if needed.

So, youth of today please note, just because you have decent tools, you don’t need to go into debt buying a huge tool box!066E5F26-833D-4556-ACBF-899F616D180B.jpegDE826919-9F64-465B-AC7C-D09AAC57C5DD.jpeg

I love seeing things like this. My grandfather had a similar setup that he made from Coca Cola crates. He used them to service a fleet of Studebaker delivery trucks.

Very NICE!. Love the handmade boxes.
There are 7 of those trays. The others hold 3/8 drive, screwdrivers/pliers, hammers, punches and “specialist” tools. He had two other boxes for wrenches (one for Whitworth and one for SAE) a box of “heavy” tools (big adjustables, pipe wrenches and pry bars) and a box of “fabrication” tools (hacksaw, files, chisels, body hammers etc).

I retain them all, and have resisted temptation to redistribute the tools, as they are becoming a great “snapshot” of how a mechanic worked in that era. (20’s to 50’s)

Back then, it would have been unheard of for a mechanic to try and work out of just one box. A lot more “fitting” of parts was required, and many things were overhauled rather than replaced. My Grandfather and his Brother in Law each had their own bench and most of the tool boxes lived underneath.

Folks back then seemed to be more innovative, and they always seemed to make the best of the resources they had. I couldn’t imagine my Grandfather ever buying a tool box when he could adapt something surplus for next to no cost.

He didn’t mind spending money on tools (the collection of his woodworking tools are testament to that) but his priority was the tools!

It's because the sockets were too small for Lock-On, their flagship modernizing technology. They barely got it in the Nuggets.
Those Bullet tip tools are really cool. I see that Herbrand made similars in the 1940's and--believe it or not--I saw a couple of Walden Bullet rats the other day on e-bay. https://www.ebay.com/itm/255011704423?hash=item3b5fe1ce67:g:SVUAAOSwj~5gwVZY and https://www.ebay.com/itm/143846650089?epid=1327722433&hash=item217dedb0e9:g:dwEAAOSwGKJfrzow

Since I've taken so much attention with getting medallion badges made, here is a contribution to the Blackhawk thread Gods. A nice 2601U set found in the 1930 catalog. I'm two wrenches short of finishing this up. The outside of the case is as nice as the inside. It's like it was never used except for the two wrenches that are missing from the set (2780 & 2616).
Dang that’s cool. I’ll take a look but pretty sure this wrenches I had were in the box you bought from me.

I bought a box of tools today, these vintage Blackhawk tools were in it. Ratchet is rather unusual, not sure how it reverses??

Hold down the button on the back of the ratchet head then turn the bit left or right to set the ratcheting direction. This assumes that the mechanism still works. Nice haul.
