"I'm sure that you've seen this Blackhawk transition catalog, number 185, which has a wrench that still sports the Blackhawk "

I had not seen that catalog. I suspected they were transition. Now I know for sure. Thank you for the information.

So....40 degree morning, 6 hayracks of mostly junk and hoarder stash, and all of a sudden, i see why ill spend my whole saturday at this cold auction...rusty, red torpedo case! Only a few others even know to spin the little knob on the back to make sure whats inside. So, i ante up, spend some extra cash and get er. Now i need a bit of advice on what i should do next. I want a useable porta power, so the tools will get cleaned, tested and fixed as needed to put to work, light duty compared to what theyve already seen. But to the torpedo...aside from missing one wheel, which i think i can repop, in very solid shape. Does anyone have a parts list or ad for what would have all been included with this? Should i restore the torpedo with fresh paint and decals, or just clean and keep original? Anyone have a lead on a replacement wheel, or should i start whittling? Either way, im happy with what i have, spent more than i planned, but u never guessed id see one in person. Im open to any and all opinions for ideas on what to do.

Fantastic find. The poor original cosmetic condition would place it in the restoration column if this box lived in my garage. Finding a spare wheel will be a tough thing to do. I can't even find a pull knob for a Blackhawk tool box these days. Things sure have dried up over the last two years.

Now I need to find the tools that go on this board.
Good News is the T-handle wrenches can be found and usually don't break the bank at around $10 Each (sometimes less) I'm sure that you can populate that board for a fraction of what the board itself presumably went for.

It's on Facebook, so I have no way to contact the seller.
Somebody else who's local might want to go after it.
It's been re-painted, and I don't collect Blackhawk. I think it would be a gamble trying to flip it.

Hello folks. I just read this entire thread and haven't seen a surviving example of a Porto-Power cart with nearly all it's accessories like my Son-in-law just scored helping clean up an estate yesterday. This stuff is still out there and after reading this thread I think he/we may be doomed to the ranks of Blackhawk addicts. He's got what looks like a complete S-200 like the attached, and an S-4 jack to start.
I will try and post pictures after we finishing cleaning and sorting the pile.

I don't know anything about that socket, in particular, but that "RE19287" marking is the updated reissue patent (1934) for the Lock-On "plunger" (as Pfauser called it) or spring-loaded release button patent (1933). Does it look like it ever had one?

Oh, I gave up on that a long time ago. For finding patents when you don't have a number, just a name and date, or derived date, I use the Smithsonian. I've posted the steps in a few threads, and they are in my Sticky update now.

I have an old, unrestored long frame Blackhawk S7 1.5 ton floor jack that I'll likely not restore or use. Anyone interested?
I'm in Green Bay, WI

As first mentioned on the Garage Sale thread, I found these Lock-On sockets at an estate sale yesterday. They're all date coded 8 or -7. They were scattered throughout the shop in several tool boxes and chests. Sadly, no drive tools.
When I got home and started to clean things up, I discovered, like many on this thread, the sockets were not 3/8 drive as I had thought. I had seen the term "Nugget" before on this thread but never delved into what it involved. Now I'll have to keep a sharp lookout for matching Nugget tools to fill out this set--and no, I'll not be obsessing over that torpedo toolbox--unless one falls into my lap!
On a frustrating note, after reviewing much of the Nugget discussion here, I realized a long red metal box I dismissed due to heavy wear and the added distinction of belonging to "Johnny" who had carved his name deep into the lid was actually a Blackhawk Nugget 17K case.

Sockets are 7/8", 13/16", two 3/4", 21/32", 5/8", 19/32", 9/16", 3/8" and 5/16".

So today I found myself between projects so I decided to tackle the Nugget display.
I gathered all my nugget tools and started laying them out as the display shows.

2022-01-27 17.37.33.jpg

It works out that the black circle is 24" in diameter with 1 inch cut off the bottom for the block base.
Now the question is, what is this display made out of?? How are the tools fastened to the back piece??

Any ideas are most welcome

If you follow the examples of authentic antique advertisement in your party garage, I'd say that you're going to want to go with painted metal. That would be most consistent with era correct advertising.

If I had to guess what was used to keep sockets on a vertical display it would be something like your modern socket organizer clips. The trick is, how do you find a 7/16th socket clip? I figure that you have the right gear to make your own though.

Not as vintage and old as i'd like, but was able to do some bartering to acquire these newer blackhawk by proto boards. Not sure how hard ill try to fill them, as i think most are after the jump from USA to china made. Thought worth showin tho.

Finally picked up a Free Wheeling ratchet off of eBay. Cleaned up the internal bearings with brake parts cleaner, "polished" with some Blue Steel after getting some of the surface rust off. Added a few drops of oil to the head and it feels great. The handle is also stamped with a "6", is this a 1946 manufacture date?

I've been wanting to get my hands on one because 1: They look great. 2: I just wanted to feel how well the ratcheting mechanism worked. I'm very pleased.

Side note: was the socket lock designed to be at an angle? I saw a couple of the Blackhawk patents that show them this way and didn't know if that carried over to the 49997.
