A couple before pics of suspension parts prior to cleanup. A bit of surface rust just bugs me . . .

These cell phone pics did not turn out well . . .
Finally got the front suspension back in place along with the brakes. Rebuilding the caliper mounts was a lot bigger job than expected.

Nice work, that will be a nice truck when you are done. For the rust removal is that with evaporust or your magic soap solution. Such as the bellhousing and the small suspension parts.

This is coming out really nice. Great attention to detail! All this talk about Magic Soap, please give us the formulation! I have been dying to find a deageaser/soap that actually works.

Same question. You are doing great work! Are you a Ford truck expert?

I mean do you just love the old F series and focus on those for your work?

What did you spray those pulleys and other parts with? It looks beautiful.

Almost everything gets a touch of Magic Soap then from there it depends on what it is. If it is cast iron and has surface rust of any kind it goes into the Evapo-Rust, if small parts like nuts and bolts, small hardware that has any kind of grease or dirt it goes into the agitator (air operated) with carb~parts cleaner. The E-R is also a very great cleaner but of course quite expensive.
I like to eliminate as much elbow grease as I can because after so many years do not have much left in me . . .

This is coming out really nice. Great attention to detail! All this talk about Magic Soap, please give us the formulation! I have been dying to find a deageaser/soap that actually works.

I do plan on doing that but as I mentioned before it really depends on what a person is cleaning as to how its mixed. There are 4 diff components that I use in mixing but never more than 2 are mixed together. Am I cleaning aluminum, leather, cloth interior, grease n grime, plastic, chrome etc. The best mix that cleans about everything is not friendly with polished aluminum.

Not all of What goes into the mix cannot be shipped UPS or FedEx or the USPS.

Same question. You are doing great work! Are you a Ford truck expert?

I have worked on a few Ford's yeah. About any Ford or Mercury product from late 20's thru current. Chevy, Dodge, Chrysler, BMW, JAG, Porsche and everything in between. My preference is 1928~1971. Anything after 1971 unless its a Ford truck or car not much interest.

I have not so much as mentioned this car as wanted to do a "build" on it but seeing as though someone asked and its sitting in corner of shop . . .LOL

1956 Belair that was a frame off, body on a rotisserie type resto-mod. I painted it 15yrs ago for a friend who has owned it 27yrs now and has never driven it down the road! He is in his 70's now and unable to complete on his own. We both moved out of state etc. His "Dream Car" as had one many moons ago. Now that I have spilled the beans . .

I missed the question on pulleys. That is just after bead blasting no paint at that point. They were painted semi-gloss black as original. I was hoping to get engine 100% complete prior to posting engine pics . . Its getting very close now.

Re: 1970 F250 Ranger Project R-S 2014

The minimum charge for me getting stuff to mix up the Magic Soap is 150.00 pallet charge. So if I get a full or half or 1/4 pallet the minimum is 150.00 truck freight.

I do not dare ship it UPS or FedEx maybe someone else in PHX area would.
As I said I have been using it for 25yrs now.

If enough interest I can find if there is a distributor in your area.
I am much better doing a hands on demo than trying to explain it here.

Re: 1970 F250 Ranger Project R-S 2014

For a brief while, I had a '70 F250. Bare bones truck that had it's start (and the beginning of its finish) in Colorado.

Rust was really, really bad to the point where I could push up on the roof and see daylight above the windshield.

Had a 360 with 4-spd manual and 4:10 gears (or maybe higher). 80mph was flat out.

When I got it, the PO complained that it had a hot miss. Ran fine while warming up, but missed on one or two cylinders when up to temp. One day sitting at a traffic light I had to raise up to get something out of my back pocket - pressed really hard on the brake pedal and the miss went away - leaking diaphragm in the booster caused vaccum loss in the left rear of the intake manifold, and the miss.

Great truck. Gave it away to someone for parts when the cab sagged so much that one of the clutch rods fell out on the road one day...

Re: 1970 F250 Ranger Project R-S 2014

A few more examples of detail~cleaning.

This was my Original Paint 1965. Super nice original truck but like the 1970 Ranger a bit not so nice under the hood because of battery acid splatter.
Pretty much did same thing to it as this '70.

Not much I cannot clean with a few magic tricks I have found.

As mentioned before it took me nearly 20yrs to find something that would clean like I wanted it to and that was only being short on one product I used that worked pretty well and mixing what I had left of another product and BINGO, wow did it work. So its been another 25yrs perfecting how and what to mix.

Aluminum has always been one of the hardest things to restore or clean the original finish. Now its a pleasure to do!

I first remove any surface rust then put a satin clear coating on parts to preserve (if natural bare metal) If I cannot get the natural finish to come back because of too much surface rust I will then glass bead and paint, color depending on what it is.

Only thing that got really primed and painted was frame from firewall forward, Had to sandblast it to make it look right.

I did refinish the brake backing plates. The rest is natural finish including steering and all suspension, springs etc.

Re: 1970 F250 Ranger Project R-S 2014

To those waiting on Magic Soap

I have a '58 Chev truck here for a Magic Soap Test.

It has very dirty white upholstery.

Also have a forum member who will most likely bring something to clean.
Everything is clean here except shop! LOL

Once I get the 390 back into the '70 Ranger I will do a post on cleaning the white upholstery and also give what I mix and how.

That "should" happen by Saturday Evening.

Engine before it gets dropped in place.

I ran out of steam so it will not be going in tonight.

Getting a heavy rain now, first good rain in a long time.

Please excuse the crappy cell phone pics. They look washed out . . . To bright in shop for the cell phone.

Be careful with flash flood there in Phoenix as saw on news you got 1/2" of rain yesterday. That's a LOT for your area . . . . ie monsoon !! ;)

Thanks! I first get it to bare metal then use a PPG Base Clear
In this case PPG Global then 2021 Clear. I find it works very well using no primer on the bare metal. I have some I did 20Plus years ago that still look great! I had the Ford Blue formulated years ago for a exact match from a NOS Ford air cleaner. Running a bit low now on the ford blue and do not think I can buy it any longer.

You do awesome work! :rocker: I wish I lived in a rust free area. :(

One could always move . . . LOL I know thats not always possible.

Thanks! It started to rain last eve before I quit for the day. Its been raining pretty hard since. My driveway getting quite soft already. We are supposed to get 2" or more of rain today. In the over 25yrs I have lived in Phx I do not think we have gotten that much rain in such a short period. Thats like 24" of snow in the snow belt states. High temp today supposed to be 57 deg

Thats ok though because with my 4400 watts of lighting it will heat the garage to the point of needing to turn the A/C on unless I open the door.

Time to drop a 390 in its resting place . . .

Re: 1970 F250 Ranger Project R-S 2014

What was the paint process and material for that engine?

The Exhaust manifolds are lightly glass beaded just to get surface rust off then I use a 2000 deg Silica Ceramic Flat Black paint that after use turns very close to exact color of Natural Cast Iron! Unreal how well it holds up that way.

As in prior photo's I glass bead all the brackets and pulleys then use a semi-gloss or gloss engine enamel. I had great luck with a certain brand lacquer years ago but its getting too hard to find. I have found fresh from blasting then before they get finger printed up or exposed to moisture I paint them. Dry in 10 min to he touch.

Nuts, bolts and hardware get cleaned first then put into Evapo-Rust then sent to plater or a flexed and flat clear put on them if time limited. Really depends on end result. Worst case if I have to glass bead a nut or bolt I have found the plating does not come out as nice!
I pretty much never use aftermarket hardware . .

I prefer the plating. Electroless Nickle, Cad or zinc plating

I have capability to glass bead a entire sealed completed engine. I like to do that prior to teardown of engine. And of course after a wash with Magic Soap

I use Airline Service Carts to keep my small parts in. I have like Eleven of them floating around. They have brakes on them that keep the wheel from turning and the caster from rotating, very handy. Probably visible in some of the pictures. I also have a custom made dresser that was found at a garage sale for 15.00! Incredible craftsmanship with dividers etc. I just need to stain and paint it to match what I want . . .

Just had to share my day's find! I have been looking for storage drawers but at 50.00 each for drawer and 150.00 each for cabinets it could get quite pricey.

I tripped over these this morning for 75.00 for ALL ! I could not load them
fast enough . . .
Small parts organization at its finest. Some of the drawers (all 18" x 12") have movable dividers in them.

LOL! Best part is the part that holds the drawers are 150.00 each to buy them.

These are older very well built too.

So it was either 1650.00 plus tax and shipping or 75.00

The 75.00 sounded just fine.. I heard the number 15.00 each and I thought that was 15.00 per drawer but turns out 15.00 per entire unit! About time I got a smokin' deal!
