Thanks for the note Monte. I can take some more photos. These are the newer green/black handled versions. I note that the "super long" nose pliers look to still have the straight green handles. I have a new set arriving next week. The quality is at least as good as my Knipex. They are "tight" with no noticable play. So far I have been very impressed with Stahlwille/VBW :)

some more pics would be cool ! The extra long pliers only come with the dipped handles in green. The other dipped handles are also solid green. I´m happy that you´re happy :D ;)

Picked this up today. :)
Also how do you remove the orange cap holding the wrench to the card?

nice wrench !!! Strange: wrench says "Bahco Sweden" package say: "Made in Spain"
And ? How do you like it ?

oh, and removal of the orange button requires a 3hp die grinder and carbide bur bit.

:lol_hitti

I finally got it off without tools, I removed the card and forced it off.

just wanted to suggest:
- shop press :D
- Large pin punch + hammer :D
- drill press :D

j/k ;)

already made a pic for instructions how to remove the plug :D

I just got my Bahco wrenches off of Amazon for $44 and I love them. They only seem to have standard on Amazon unfortunately. I will rarely use them since they are standard, but I like the feel of them way more than my Snap On, Mac, and Craftsman wrenches. Anyone know of a good place to get metric Bahco wrenches stateside?

BTW mine say USA on them. I'd prefer them to be made in Sweden.

Hi there guys,
Sorry to bring this old post back to life, but I'm trying to find some info on some old files I found in my late-father's toolbox, and two of them are marked just like these ones. There does not seem to be very much info easily found - in English anyway :), so I'm hoping that someone can fill me in with some details.
I'll attmpt to attch some pics of mine to keep the tool **** action rolling :pimpflash

thanks in advance

The wrenches are made in the USA under the Snap-On group umbrella. They resemble the Williams Supercombo series wrenches. Unfortunately, Bahco USA never produced a metric line. The newer socketry items from Bahco are made in Taiwan, which includes metric.

So are the metric Bahco wrenches different from the standard ones?

I think the Bahco "Made in Sweden" wrench production ceased in the 1960´s ? (1963 ?) They started production in Argentina back then. The USA made Bahco is not a real Bahco product, just the name.

@flyingkite:
thanks for the pics !!! What brands do we see there ?

@Moose:
I just ordered the Esgen door panel tool !! Hopefully you still want it :D The price will be about 18.70€ + tax (dont know the exact shipping yet). They have a 50.-€ minimum order requirement, so extra costs of 5.-€ were unfortunately added. About 4.- € will be shipping to me. Tool alone is 9.70 €.
I will visit the Matador dealer on saturday.

I think the Bahco "Made in Sweden" wrench production ceased in the 1960´s ? (1963 ?) They started production in Argentina back then. The USA made Bahco is not a real Bahco product, just the name.

Production in Sweden (Enköping) started closing in 2006 of the adjustable wrenches. Production moved to Spain.

Swedish article: http://www.nyteknik.se/nyheter/it_telekom/allmant/article39213.ece

Short recap:
120 years ago Johan Petter Johansson invented the Plumber wrench and founded the company Enköpings Mekaniska Verkstad (Enköpings Mechanical Workshop). After that came the adjustable wrench and the company changed name to Bahco. But now production in Enköping is over.

Johan Petter Johansson invented what he called the "Iron hand", an adjustable plumbers wrench that replaced fixed wrenches. He got the patent for his invention in 1888 and on the final product in 1891. After that he did the adjustable wrench and a lot of other inventions. When he died in 1943 he had 118 patents.

Bahco are since 1999 owned by the american Snap-on Inc from Kenosha Wisconsin, founded in 1920, and one of the worlds largest and oldest tool manufacturers. Bahco AB is just one of about ten companies in Snap-ons European department.

Now Snap-on has decided to move the manufacturing of the well known Bahco adjustable wrench from Enköping to their plant in Basque, Spain. This will affect 275 employees in Enköping, shutdown will begin this autumn and be finished at the end of next year.

This wasn't a popular move by many "tool patriots", and i consider it quite funny when you hear a old-timer rant about those "**** quality american ba****ds"...

On another note:

Did somebody say funnel?

There were no brands in the Soviet Union (with the few exceptions). Every manufacturing facility was obligated to produce some consumer goods (heavy machinery and military equipment was a priority). Tools were mostly manufactured from the leftovers with an average quality.
But sometimes there were no leftovers, especially in the aerospace industry and they produced exceptional tools.

Things would change if you worked on of one these facilities and established good relationships with machinists.
spit.gif
They would make tools for you from exotic alloys and refractory metals. These "special order" tools would cost you a fortune on a free market.

Yes, I envy the hammer, as does my vat of Evaporust.

lol :)
if you want the hammer it´s yours for €1.50 plus s+h for your vat of Evaporust ;)

i thought about the regular wrenches. At least they opened a factory in Argentina in ´63. Thanks for the article ! Now i know what a "skiftnyckel" is :)
But i wonder why they want to compete with these 50 other brands with 50% of them being chinese which was mentioned in the article, because it is "Bahco" so the name alone should sell the adjustable wrenches even if they´re made in Sweden. (ps: Did they lower the price after they´re made in Spain now ?)

On another note:

Did somebody say funnel?

Thanks for posting the funnel !!! :D i heard funnels are not tools :eyecrazy: ???? :D
This one looks cooler than the typical orange ones ! Nice Hazet colors !!!!

Monte, did that hammer steam across the atlantic ocean to get to you.

Yeah i wonder if this was the case ? :)
Maybe stored in a place full of salt water for a while ???
It´s looking too gross....
I can´t use it...maybe with a little bit body putty and new paint it´s useable :D

@flyingkite:
thanks for the information !! Would be interesting to see "special order" tools ! That would be cool if you could go to a factory and say "i would like to have one 12x13mm open end wrench made out of titanium" and the machinist say: " no problem, wait 5 minutes" :)

Some flea market finds:

"Cronenberger" insulated screwdriver made in "W. Germany"

gggg010.jpg

gggg011.jpg

"Belzer" "obstruction" :)D) screwdriver

The "skiftnyckel" is one of those things (like dynamite) that swedes often hold as a masterpiece of swedish engineering. Although many like to call them "bolt rounders", one of those "works for everything, right for nothing" tools.

Ah, i don't know about regular wrenches, but i think they were made here also after -63. These are some of my fixed Bahco wrenches, with an Argentina made at the top.
IMG_0052.jpg

I'm not sure of the production year of these, but i think they're newer than -63. I think production was phased over, but don't know for sure.

Regular prices are the same what i have seen, but perhaps they are more easy to find on sale now. When it comes to Taiwan production for ratchets and sockets, they have introduces lower prices lines (the S-series).

Thanks for posting the funnel !!! :D i heard funnels are not tools :eyecrazy: ???? :D

Of course they're tools. They are a "utility" (I might be out of my depth with my english here, but i mean like a "functional item").

Only time will tell if this one gets to be used or if it's a display item :D

@flyingkite : Please, tell me more about this bottle opener. Did you make it ?

I'm not a machinist but I worked in the R & D facility where we had a small mechanical shop. Our machinists were very skilled, they could make amazing things without any blueprints.

Monte's 5-minute estimate for the "special order" wrench was very close, but the whole process would normally consist of three steps. First, you have to provide your machinist with the original materials from the supply warehouse. Some nice warehouse girls would always be happy to help you in exchange for a couple of chocolate bars. Sometimes another favor would be assumed which I definitely would not object.

A good machinist would always suggest the best options, sizes, shapes etc, but you could also bring a blueprint.

Some orders would require help from other factory workers, like guys who worked with the galvanic bath or perform hardening and tempering operations.

Final step would involve some liquid currency exchange in order to provide incentives for your future orders.

Not surprisingly, your order will go with the highest priority!

wow that´s cool !!!!!!! A cork screw with bottle cap opener + t-handle !!!!!!! nice !!!!!!!!!!!! Looks very very nice !!!!!!!!!!! Patent it, make it and become millionaire !!! :) ;)

A bottle opener is a tool over here too (at least in Bavaria :D) and at least this one you can consider as tool because a Gedore T-handle ratchet drives the cork screw:

+ Volvo + Saab !! ;)

Although many like to call them "bolt rounders", one of those "works for everything, right for nothing" tools.

yup :D ...Don´t really use them.... :) ...But Bahco (ok + Irega) are the nicest....So if you want to round a bolt then please with a Bahco :D ;)

Do you know when the "Sandvik Belzer" era tools were produced and where ?
(sockets for example)

i wish they would introduce a higher price line of tools..... the new "Belzer" .... :) made in germany :) (with some swedish adjustables + saws) :)

I have no Irega, but yeah. I don't use them with cars, but for quick bicycle fixes they're handy. Bad adjustables are a pain!

Do you know when the "Sandvik Belzer" era tools were produced and where ?

No, i don't. I'm too young (didn't own any tools) to have experience from that era... And when you see older tools you don't know their age.

i wish they would introduce a higher price line of tools..... the new "Belzer" .... :) made in germany :) (with some swedish adjustables + saws) :)

Just now i feel that the Bahco brand is being dumped. I have seen some chinese made Bahco branded accessories, and some have horrible quality. I have a feeling now that i don't really see the future for the Bahco brand. I wonder what SNAs plan for it is. With saws still made in Sweden, you just wonder when that is moved to.

Monte,

Very nice bottle opener from Gedore, it would make quite a show in old Russian garage coop where car owners used to socialize.

Could I ask you a favor?

I enjoy this thread but pictures in the beginning (linked to the photobucket) are not available. Can you fix it?

If it's big deal, don't mind it, a good half of your pictures still here.

Hole saws from England i think..

So i think today/tomorrow the pics should be visible again when the bandwidth will be reset to zero.

I don't really use them any more as I use modern Grolsch swing tops that have been designed to be used with out the use of tools. :spit: :D

Interesting ! I thought only Flensburger make the bottles with these "swing tops"

ebene_2.jpg

My Knipex looks just like that! Is pressmaster the maker of the Knipex stripers?

12-42-195 click*
12421954k.jpg

Knipex strippers are "made in germany" while the Pressmaster tools are "made in sweden". There are some differences in design etc. (metal jaws on the Knipex tool vs. plastic on the Pressmaster, pressure adjuster on the Pressmaster tool, slightly different lower handle design + joint design etc.)

@flyingkite: The pics are back up !!!

@ Monte theres a lot of companies that still use swing tops especially in France for sodas and theres one company in Italy that sells new empty ones as decoration. :headscrat

ooops and I thought it´s a german thing :) "Flensburger" a.k.a. "Flens" is a cult beer here. Here some TV advertisements

Thank you, Super Monte! :D

I still want it, believe me i do!

I searched for "Matador" on eBay.de. My search yielded some results that weren't tools, maybe "reading material"!

I don't yet. Since several months on tool budget got blown on Gedore stuff from TBS-aachen, it will probably be a while. They're not cheap! Almost ordered one now from Wupper, but i restrained myself. :headscrat

Yeah, i recently bought a 317 hacksaw, which is chinese made. It came with three (Swedish) blades though, and were on sale cheaper than three blades are separately.
