Got my Kress battery packs back. After cycling and testing they both show 2.3Ah(sold as 3.0Ah) capacity. Good condition, no cells shorted, just a loss of capacity due to several years of storage. I wonder what _real_ capacity have new battery packs from major manufacturers. Unfortunately I don't have any for testing.

@Lukas : Thank you for the report. I've read somewhere that some Chinese made cordless drills sold as 18V are after checking, less powerfull.

@Bhae : Nice tools. I like the German/Swiss made HILTI Grinder/box. I also like the Piher clamp, they're strong and there are plenty over here in France.

I have the wera ring magnet and it is great! I'm also a big fan of the felo screwdriver m-tec series.

i ony have one M-Tec driver but it´s a great driver i think, much better than magnetized tips !

@Monte : I don't know very much about "Sambre et Meuse". Over here, in France, the most common vises are the Dolex ones. I personnaly own a 30 years old Dolex. Still works like a charm. Also the vise pictured on the Sambre et Meuse website looks very similar to mine, maybe it's outsourced by Dolex.

by the way: are the Dolex vises cast or forged steel ?
The front part/jaw is forged when i understand it right and the "housing" (/rear jaw) is cast ?
gr_serie50.jpg

And the Sambre et Meuse vises ? Completely cast ?

etau_nom.jpg

(This goes to Servito as well)
I wish not to speak about it here. It'll be to off topic for this thread Only thing I'll say is that there were several email communications in order to sort out the order. Overall, it was just a hassle.

No worries ! Luckily HIPA Tools from Canada will offer more "tools from the old world" soon, hammers from Halder + HKR, steel stamps from Heidenpeter, wad punches and tools from Athlet.

NWS004.jpg

No kidding! Have you seen the pics Stuey posted over at Toolguyd on the newest Kobalt Multi Drive Wrench ? : http://toolguyd.com/2010/11/how-well...hex-fasteners/

yeah !!! Ridiculous !!!
The Husky version is gross too !! I first thought the first pic is a photoshop ! :)
http://toolguyd.com/2010/11/husky-48-in-1-ratcheting-rotary-socket-wrench-another-dog-bone/
I wonder who uses these monsters.... Children ??? So they can´t swallow them ??? :)
The poor metal transformed into these things......

It looks like it's a locking type too, similar looking to the Hi-Five locking flex

yeah i guess made by Hi-Five ?

Any pics:

Nice !!!!!!! I like the Hilti grinder and the Piher clamp looks cool too !!!

I think new battery packs only are for example 3 AH when they are brand new and after charging/discharging they have less AH. Panasonic already uses the new AH rating so their batteries are now rated 3.1 AH instead of 3.3 Ah and 1.5 AH instead of 1.65 AH.

New Stahlwille box end wrench set:) nestled next to they Hazet buddies. I will buy Hazet combination wrench next. The finish is very nice and they are the most comfortable wrench I have ever held. The heads are thin which is very nice in tight spaces.

I am going to replace my well-worn 3/8” and 1/2”drive sockets and am trying to decide between Stahlwille and Hazet. Stahlwille is easier to get in the USA but are a little higher in price. Following this thread it seems more people like Hazet. My only experience with Hazet is the magnetic spark plug sockets I purchased back in the eighties from the Snap on dealer which are solidly built but not overwhelming. Opinions are appreciated. I was looking at getting this set (HAZET 900/14H 6-POINT SOCKET SET ) from Chads but with the long wait time. I have not had any problems with Chads that some report.

Yes, I have read on polish electronic forum, guy had cheap 18V cordless, and by curiosity he measured voltage of charged pack. It showed 14-something volts, so he asked what could be wrong. They told him to open battery and measure individual cells, but when he opened there were 10 Ni-Cd cells instead of 15.:wtf:

It was on my list about 2 months back until I found out it was Taiwan. It looked like a nice set but could not bring myself to buy it. The Bacho 3/4 set is also a nice looking set but also Taiwanese made.

Japan is excellent. Was c rap in the 60's

Taiwan is not far behind. was c rap in the 70's

China still has a LONG way to go (ie consistency- there are occasionally some high quality products around but hey I'll wait..)... so is c rap in the naughty-tens

Personally, If I am looking for a "cheap" tool to fit an immediate need, I am overjoyed to read "Made in Taiwan" as it has immediately reached the status of a tool that I will use again......and I am already thrilled to buy Japanese tools , don't think twice about Taiwan. Forget India ....:scared:

Just caught up on this thread, after a while of other stuff taking time...

I needed a go through ratchet set, and since i'm satisfied with my Bahco S-series set, i went for the S140T.
bahco_s140t2.png

Taiwan made, same matte finnish on the sockets as the other S-series.
bahco_s140t.png

The ratchet itself is different from my other S-series. The direction switch and angle setting works good though. No slop after having set an angle. Sockets are held in place by a "spring" type thing in the ratchet. A similar holder sits in the extension. Not perfect, would prefer some type of quick release. Also would have preferred sockets to be 6 och 12 point and not the spline drive type. But fit seems ok at least. The case is good, latches are better than on most cheap kits. The "go-through" hole is good also. As big as it could be with the 19mm ratchet size.

Oh, and we can't have a post without something europe made:

actually very good !!!! Better than many germans ;) And even with capital letters and not everything written in small letters

Thank you Monte :)

19.- sounds good !!! 27.- not :D The local big box store "Bauhaus" sells them for higher prices than list prices.. so you always have to look what the list price is .... (and what a good price is...)

But, how can I know Knipex list price?
Haven't got any catalog with prices, do you know where can I download the price list?

I heard they´re good :D I would buy them :) they look nice in chrome ...

They look awesome, but a bit expensive; the cheapest I've seen is around 20€ (plus 9-11€ for shipping), or 26€ in Amazon.de; if I get them, it will be in Amazon, because I have to purchase some more things from them.

nice Bosch drill ! :)

Thanks, I think the same, although haven't used it much, yet.

nice !!!! Cool pics !!!!! What camera do you have ??

A Canon EOS400D... with a macro lens (borrowed from my brother) :bounce:

yeah the Wera bit holder with "Ringmagnet" is nice ! Maybe the "Weihnachtsmann" brings me one ! (If the chimney is not clogged :D)

I think it may be a good Christmas present, but not only this, hope you get something more

I agree with Monte. Stahlwille and Hazet both make excellent tools and is purely a matter of taste. I am very happy with tools from each manufacturer. I would avoid Chadstoolbox (nothing but problems when buying Hazet). I would go with Samstag or the Motoring Shop.

I have a printed Knipex price list with prices, the PDF catalog on the Knipex site doesn´t contain prices. The best is to ask you local dealer if he can give you a catalog or order one for you.... Or contact Knipex http://www.knipex.es/index.php?id=25&L=4&staat=56&change= maybe they can send you one. Or use Amazon.de or Ebay.de for the price check. 20€ for the Knipex VDE pliers sounds ok, but shipping ***** :)

Unfortunately my brother has a even shittier camera than i have so borrowing don´t make sense in my case :D

btw: the Bosch blue percussion drills are from switzerland (some, not all)

@Automatique:
heeyyyyy nice !!!! Your first pics here !!!! :) ;)

btw: "Go through" socket sets... Proxxon offers 2 nice sets in 1/4" and 1/2"
from 5,5 to 14mm and 13 - 27mm

Have seen that set at eBay once. Sold at 120 Euro, didn' got a chance to bid because i had to work. But it's not made in germany?

Spent a fortune the last two weeks to gather this:

I like the two tone on the Hazet with seeing both sockets. I have a Browning HI Power done in hard chrome like that. The flats are polished as welll as the front of the trigger.

Hazet:
I haven't purchased from Chads in like five years. I use to sell on eBay ending on Sunday then order with Papal from Chads on Monday and had the item on Saturday or sooner. I don’t know what changed. They would change the price on their items if I found it cheaper elsewhere and were very helpful.

Don´t you have the Wisent set ?

Have seen that set at eBay once. Sold at 120 Euro, didn' got a chance to bid because i had to work. But it's not made in germany?

i dunno ? The ratchet looks like the regular "Komposit" ratchet and the text in the catalog say "DBGM, EP" so it seems they have a patent in germany and EU for this ? Never saw them live though, if you see it somewhere take a look if the sockets say "Germany" somewhere...

Spent a fortune the last two weeks to gather this:

nice stuff !!!!!!!!!! The Gedore 4mm bit set is cool !!! Do want too :)

That same Gedore 471 bit ratchet is the one I'm waiting this week to arrive (two of them), but only the ratchet, not the bits (I already have some 4mm bits).
epiphany, what's your opinion for the ratchet, do you know how many teeth has it got?
Thanks.

I like tools very much, but one of my strongest "passions" is photography, so I can say I have more money invested on photography apparel than in tools.

By the way, my 10.8V cordless drill... from Bosch again.

I'm glad both of you like my pictures :bounce:
For the spinning chuck, I used a tripod and my brother's steady hand; I also think it is cool ;)

Yes Monte, I know this new one cordless drill for about a couple of weeks, but it wasn't on the market when I purchased mine (last summer). But if I hadn't purchased mine, I would surely go for that: http://www.amazon.de/Bosch-0601868100-8-2-Li-Li-Ion-Bohrschrauber/dp/B002L431QS/ref=wl_it_dp_o?ie=UTF8&coliid=IKS6G4VWY0WFB&colid=3EZIM3GV9GKXO

Hi everybody! I'm Gedore-seller from Russia. My english is bad, but i hope that we can communicate :)

Siberia, wow, welcome, can you post any pictures of Russian made tools? I do not recall ever seeing tools from Russia. Are there any quality russian tool manufacturers? Hand tools, mechanics, construction type stuff.
How did you come about finding the Garagejournal?

With the end of the USSR, creation of the good tool has been stopped. I know a few Russian manufacturers, but I don't know about how good they are. In all cases quality level of our "brands" is higher than chinese, but it is not comparable with known brands, and also is more expensive at cost than chinese. That's why shops here is filled with "chinermany" production. :)
Maybe i miss something, but i did'n aware about hi-quality russian hand tools. :) However later I will make a photos for you.

And here not bad power tolls from Russia named Interskol. *click*

How did you come about finding the Garagejournal?
I searched for discussions of the qualitative tool.

The demolition hammers certainly look better than the Ozito cheapies i was using at work today.

If you're going to make an electric demolition hammer for ripping through concrete , limestone , cement etc it should at least have a heavy duty cable that is more resistant to breakage , scratches , cuts etc than say a toaster cable that sits in the one place all day.

Welcome! Have you found any of these wonderful Russian made tools used in the aerospace industry (circa USSR days)? I read (possibly on this thread) about tools being manufactured out of exotic materials from time to time.
