Well, yes... but I don't want to buy only Hazet because of the brand. I like to try and own some other good or even better brands also.
Thanks for the link! Considering the testresults and the price I can get a 3-piece set for, it probably is going to be Knipex.. :bounce:
can´t go wrong with Knipex...it´s the pliers brand over here, they offer everything from A to Z and the quality is good as well as the design. And they have the "must-haves" like the pliers wrench and mini bolt cutter...

last hazet buy workbench and roll
Awesome !
How Old Would You Say It Is?
difficult to say since the current bender looks the same, there are only minimal differences in coating of the parts it seems.

After a couple of months break adding tools to my collection, I got the bug again a few weeks back. These are my recent additions.

Makita 18V LXT bits....started with just the drill and impact, and added the blower and angle grinder 2 weeks later.

Then some Koken stuff from eBay. Z-series 3/8" set, impact driver and 3/8" hex set.

Free pen and sticker... Also brought a cheap ar$e Rolson 1/4" extension set

Love the quality of this impact driver...can't wait to use

Need to buy male Torx bits next. Currently using Kincrome set that have WAY too much play/wobble. Preferably in 3/8", but not too long for tight spaces. Thinking Koken, but open to suggestions.

I'm a bit in doubt about upgrades my standard pliers (side cutting, combination and needle-nose).
Isn't there a recent comparison test/review available somewhere online?
The brands I'm interested in are: Knipex, Stahlwille, Hazet, NWS. These seem to me the obvious high end brands for pliers to chose from.
Stahlwille are rebranded VBW. VBW belongs to Stahlwille.
I would stick to Knipex, NWS and the Austrian-made Gedore.
In this order.

Monte already said what I could not say better:

Knipex seems one of the best (I have the pliers wrench).
Stahlwille also cannot be bad, but is pretty expensive (and might not be better?).
Hazet I already have a lot of (own the 2014 pliers) and from
NWS I have a VDE stripping pliers.
Gedore or Wiha could be an option, but I probably prefer the others above these.

Just to make choosing harder, have you considered facom? The "spring" they have in the handle is quite a useful feature.

I have a set of those Facom pliers (the snub nosed ones in the pic above, plus two pairs bent needle nose) and they haven't let me down. The "spring" is a useful feature - wish my Knipex side cutters had that!

Is Facom the OEM for those pliers?

those are made in Laissey(link in french), the pseudo-Facom plant that is in reality the historic Bost Frères pliers factory where lots of pliers are made for Stanley/B&D brands and for numerous others. they wont be made there for long methinks, circlip pliers fabrication has already gone to PRC...

I think so. :dunno: They have France stamped on the handles.

I've always thought it to be BOST

[edit] Cosmik beat me to it. I was looking for a good close up photo of their pliers. I thought I had photos that I took when I was in Paris, but I guess I didn't. Internet search didn't yield much either.

 Please write a small review after some use. Especially about cutting metal (nails, rivets) and sanding.
cutting rivets works, but if possible i would drill them out. Cutting soft metals works too (aluminium, sheet metal, car body...) but for hard/tempered steel (nails/screws) i only can recommend the Bosch blades below ....if at all....for nails etc. i would try a angle grinder, recip saw or bolt cutters first...sanding with the delta plate just works fine so you don´t need an extra delta sander... The 115mm round pad doesn´t work as an orbital sander replacement, it works, but an orbital is simply faster.

as usual, you are right, the lousy clowns that are running Facom have nothing to do with the pliers that were designed/engineered and made by the fine folks at Bost. we'll see what will happen when all pliers creation & production is moved to PRC... well, no need to wait, they'll do like the others lifeless shells from SB&D with almost no R&D: buy stuff from OEMs and resell with a nicer margin... :puke:

no, not yet. i'm alone now so i'm starting to thin the herd and, for the Knipexes, have bought way too much of them to get what was sold with them... yes, it's made in Japan, from a japanese brand, it's green and it cuts 16 gauge sheet metal like a hot knife butter and i already have it's green little brother and another blue cousin from Germany. :D

oh... too bad i have an old SuperCut now so those won't fit... :(

hey! Mr. Bosch, if you read this, send me some SuperCut compatible blade samples. lots plz! thnaks!

i promise to paint that horrendous orange vibrating piece of fine german engineering Bosch blue if you do and put some Hello kitty! stickers on it.

anyway, next week i should get a 2011 or 12 swissy-sassy GST-135-something to finaly replace the missing Kress jigsaw. that will be the eighth or ninth B-blue tool for the stable. when it'll eventually get there that is... :)

My collection of belzer ratchet is complete. Got my 1/2" at last.

Then i needed some special tools. This is for fork work on my KTM.
Special tools cost a lot of money.

Partial delivery of an order of some longer Bessey KR 2K clamps arrived yesterday; KR100-2K, KR125-2K, KR150-2K.

I wonder where they are made? Not one indication anywhere. I know current thinking is Germany, but there is definitely something suspicious about the omission.

I added 2 more starterwrenches to my Hazet 11x13:
Heyco 430: 15x17 and 19x22.
Also a Matador 251 open ended wrench: 19x22.
And to conclude: a 1/2" Heyco ratchet with 45 teeth (50-00-7):

I must say the Heyco is a pretty nice one regarding design and slimness. The head is compact because of the turning knop in stead of a switch.
2 more pictures:

..and a comparison with an old and later Hazet ratchet.
3 different types of direction-adjustment:

Today the new ratcheting combination spanners are on stock. Here are some impressions.

are those forged by Stahlwille in Germany and then get the ratcheting mechanism from Kabo added after or are those totally Kabo-made in Taiwan?

note that i do not consider Kabo-made wrenches as bad. only that Kabo-made at Stahlwille price is not really my cup of .

Agreed! They do produce some stylish designs. :pimpflash

I wonder whether some of the early contributors are still browsing this thread, quietly.

:+1:

I memory is a bit hazy, but I do recall a German brand that actually forged their own wrenches, then ships them to Lee Way or New Tools to have the guts installed, and then shipped back. Part of the reason why they are costly....I think it was Hazet. ...... or wait, maybe it was KTC.....:p

It's interesting to note that the open end is not the trademark Stahlwille profile. If they were forged in Remscheid, then you'd think that the open end profile would be their usual design. Hrmmm. :dunno:

Some arrivals today. Bessey ain't what is used to be (&^&^%#*& chinese ####.

They are only clamps after all, and why would one expect the bases to be flat?
That's a float glass plate, and an easy 1mm clearance; the others are not so poor. At least the pivot pins have reasonable fits; unlike another batch of another brand recently which shall remain nameless. General finish is modestly tidy, but the die punching leaves something to be desired; camera at limits.

Received my (used) Knipex pliers. I've choosen for the long versions (200mm) for maximum leverage.

Snipe nose: 26-15-200
High leverage diagonal cutter: 74-06-200 (VDE)
Combination: 03-05-200

Then I also got a pair of (old industrial/all metal) drawer boxes of the dutch brand "Gispen" (high end furniture):

If you like I can drive over to Le Roy and ask them WTF is up with their clamps. Granted, Bessey USA is only a sales and distribution company, but they should have a say in all this with the parent company in Germany.
