I know that Carolus belongs to Gedore, but is it made in Germany ?

sorry forgot to mention in my other reply that the Carolus torque wrenches are also from germany. The locking pliers look 1:1 like the Gedore ones (see pic below, 3rd Carolus, 4th Gedore) so i think they`re from Austria also not impossible for a price of 14,40 + tax for the 10" version.
The Carolus tool boxes looks like "Metec". For the price of the pin punches they could be easily made here, but I´m not shure, when i talked to a former Carolus employee we mostly talked about the sockets + wrenches and Gedore stuff. The hammer with plastic heads say "Germany" on the cast part. The recoilless plastic hammer could be from Gedore too.
But at least the prices are fair, for 1/4" sockets you pay between 1,21 € ( 4mm) to 1,43 ( 14mm) (+ tax) or 1/2" sockets are between 2,19 € ( 10mm) to 5,39 (32mm) (+ tax). Click

Edit: just found the new Carolus tools, locking pliers now imported, water pump pliers import, new pliers and VDE tools look imported too. click

PS: overview with prices: click

@WXM,

This post has woken me up.... ;)

Welcome to the thread!

IFAIK, Dunlap was sold exclusively through Sears Roebuck and Co. as an economy line of hand tools in the olden days. I think your post marks the first Craftsman/Sears tool in this thread. :D
Old it is...but not quite from the "Old World". ;)

@Muffinman

Did you source the NWS stuff from QuattroJon because the price was better than HIPA, in Canada?

Nice stuff!

I think I see an overall similarity between this Austrian made pliers and your NOS Hazet pliers. Assuming Hazet was producing their own pliers, was the design/shape according to some DIN standard of the time or just some coincidence? ....or did companies simply copy one another's designs?

....

Some tools yes. Wrenches, the pliers (?), some extensions. Sockets from China (formerly Japan), the flex-head ratchets - handle from germany , head from Taiwan.

I wonder if they supply the 72-toothed ReadyFlex ratchet heads as well?

Superautobacs,

HIPA? I've never heard of the place :(

QuattroJon's prices I thought were very reasonable though I don't really have any other price to compare to as NWS's pliers are awefully hard to come by in the states.

The Fantastico Plus cost me $42usd, and the combination pliers were $30usd.

Edit: found the reference to HIPA on page 71 :).

That Gedore hammer sure looks prettier than a Unior. :)

Thanks !! :) me too !

@The Muffin Man
nice generator + NWS pliers !!!

(PS: is it true that every american household has a generator because blackouts are common ? ) :)

@superautobacs
welcome back ! :D

yes they are yery similar. I don´t know maybe this design was "in" at a certain time like "bell-bottoms" or so :)
The same nowadays. If you look at european sidecutter designs or combination pliers etc.

fret2.jpg

mmm003.jpg

"Tracht-Odenthal" still makes them like that

n05.jpg

Similarities between VBW and Knipex. The high leverage side cutters from them also look nearly identical.

overview with different designs

Similarities between Gedore and Beta here, VBW and Knipex. NWS with a slightly different design, Bahcoo completely different. "Orbis" and "Will" also look like Gedore.

:thumbup: ahaha they even say "Carolus".... yeah maybe the heads too and the Carolus ratcheting wrenches ?? Carolus was the first one IIRC who introduced the forged ratcheting wrenches "Gear wrech" style here in germany.

the "composite" wrench looks tooo odd. Maybe its a eco-friendly wrench so you can recycle metal and plastic separately ? :D :headscrat :D ;)

Thanks for the comparison shots. :thumbup:

Yeah, it's the truth isn't it: there's always a trendy design for anything.

This company defies all trends though :D : ODÜR-“Fit” Pliers

I`ve seen the Carolus rat. wrenches and they`re not stainless steel like the RareStar 72-T models are. So, must be from somewhere else. I don`t recognize the reversing switch so I have no clue.

An eco-friendly tool eh....reminds me of Vessel`s eco-friendly screwdriver with recyclable blade and handle. Trend of the future? :confused: ;)

lol yeah the "Odür-Fit" pliers are pretty old school ! :D
with the translucent handle and the packaging...
i think i need one :D ;)

But there is also a new school version :) (from Elora)

btw. old school packaging:

Pliers somehow don`t match their package ?!?

it seems the carolus wrenches are unique ??? Please dear manufacturer contact me if you produce them ! :) ;)

I think yes, the chrome plating already changed to environmental friendly plating, the Vessel screwdrivers, all the electric power tools already have the "plastic-codes" molded in the housing and plastic parts so the different plastics can be recycled etc. Why not , if the quality is there, and workplaces are created ?

Funny how simply slipping on a new pair of "shoes" makes them look instantly current and fashionable. :lol:

I love the old packagings; hate the new blister packagings!

"Bertool" once a plier manufacturer, brandname of the company "Haaner Zangenwerk, Paul Berrenberg", the brand name "Bertool" was introduced in 1933, but the company already existed before.

I don´t know the exact history/story. No infos in the net....
The "Bertool" economy line no longer exist says Stahlwille . There is still a PDF catalog on the polish Stahlwille site though: http://stahlwille.pl/1,of_bertool.html (direct link: http://stahlwille.pl/images/bertool.pdf )

Their tool box production unit is still named "Bertool": click

It looks like the NWS combination pliers have the pivot point in different location for better leverage.

I could use some help on finding a good NWS vendor in the U.S. Thanks!

Great Hazet cart! Those look like good casters too. Blicklee or Bicklee (sp?) is an awesome caster made in Germany. Not sure if those are it, but I'm making a portable table (3 x 8) with 10" blicklee's that'll hold about 1,500 lbs per.

I'm trying to figure out what's being illustrated here. Do they really fit that tightly? There's no way

I'm displaying my anti-gravity garage.

^^^I tried with my Wiha Torx drivers...no dice.

You don't have the m@d skillz, yo. :)

They really have no wiggle in the torx head, whereas the Snap-on ones have a lot by comparasin. As much as i like the Snap-on ones the Germans and the Swiss put them to shame.

Felo's insulated pliers are rebranded from NWS and can be purchased from several vendors in the states.

While only the more traditional pliers are available under the Felo brand, it is a start...

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=felo++insulated+pliers&x=0&y=0

(Note: Amazon displays the incorrect picture for the wire striping pliers )

http://chadstoolbox.com/search.aspx?find=insulated+pliers&log=false&category=514

(Note: the black handled stripping pliers are sourced from Orbis.)

Here is the set offered by Northerntool that I bought...

Monte,
95% of the households here don't own a generator. The power here is super reliable (well at least in New Jersey :rolleyes:.) I would imagine generators are much more popular in the mid-west.

I bought mine for camping and enduro/dirtbiking trips, Though I made sure that it could power my beer fridge and laptop just in case I did lose power :D

good eye ! yes, closer to the jaws of the pliers

To show just how good Wiha Torx screwdrivers are..
They're the best i've ever used, and put Snap-on to shame. I haven't got any PB Swiss to compare, i imagine they're on par with Wiha.

nice pic !!!

never noticed it has "double-wheels" though :) nice
i wonder why the slip of paper says Assistent 162N but it is a 166N ?

So what´s next ?? First the Assistent 173 now the 166 and next ? the 179 workbench ?? or the "179 Big" ?? :D ;)

ps: where did you buy it ?? here ?

nice ! I like the Felo series 500. Very comfortable "rubber" handle !
The price is right too (€ 22,95 ?)
For how much do they sell the Wisent/Wiha set at Bauhaus ?? Nice Bertool wrench ! Did you buy a complete set ?
PS: the Proxxon ratchets still look ugly :D ;) sorry :) ;)

Yes, thought that were a good price...

For how much do they sell the Wisent/Wiha set at Bauhaus ??

19,90€. They sell three sets. The one i got, one VDE set and a pz/torx set. Same price for all sets.

Nice Bertool wrench ! Did you buy a complete set ?

I did! :bounce:

PS: the Proxxon ratchets still look ugly :D ;) sorry :) ;)

I love the design.

@Nice haul!

Took a close look at the screwdriver sets at the local hardware stores. They all sell sets that were made in germany and some cheap non germany stuff. Metro sells Meister screwdrivers, but they only got 1k handles. Bauhaus sells Wisent sets and Toom sells Merox, but don't like them and they are expensive. Didn't notice that before.

Took a closer look at the expensive Wisent ratchet sets, too, because i thought some of the sets were made in germany too, but they are all made in r.o.c.
