TV In Your Garage

I'm moving into a different house. The owners left an older 50" TV in the basement so my smaller 32" TV went to the garage. My boys will spend more time in the garage now...

It's been a nice way to end a day after putting up farm fencing. Drink a beer and watch a quick show to wind down.

I have an old 60" commercial plasma monitor in my shop. I couldn't find a wall bracket that fit that monster, plus it weighs nearly 200lbs. So I had a friend of mine weld me a bracket out of 1/8" steel, lol. It took 3 of us to hang it up on the wall. It will probably be there for all eternity.

When I first put it up there, a friend was like "what if somebody tries to steal it?". I said "I'd find them dead underneath it in the morning". Believe me, you would not want to dislodge that thing by yourself.

I really don't watch it too much anymore though. I keep a fitted bed sheet snapped over it to keep the dust out when I am not using it. It's kind of a pain in the *** to get the sheet back on, so most of the time I just use my 19" computer monitor if I am going to watch something quick.

About the only time it gets used is when I have friends over to watch a football game or something. Or sometimes the wife and I will sit in the car and watch a movie like a drive-in, lol. My wife will sometimes have pot-luck dinners out there, and we'll play the TV then.

I guess I like having a TV out there, but I wouldn't spend much on one. Cheap TVs are everywhere.

Do I sit in the house when I am working (aka babysitting) or would I rather be out in the garage?

This is from a couple of years ago, but I will have another one coming up in a couple of months. 65" connected to a nVidia Shield which can stream just about anything, (Netflix, YouTube, PlayStation Vue) my security cams, the grandkids can play games on it and it really comes in handy

I have one in the shop along with free IPTV from the company I work for. I spend most of my spare time in the shop, haven't turned the TV on for well over a year.

I have a 42" Panasonic flat screen in the garage. If the electric goes out while the TV is on, it takes 2 days before it comes back on. Pisses me off and has done it from the day it was new.

I think it is a 40", but I'm going to replace it with a 52" I took from the family room after we got a new 65". I have a 32" also in the garage that is out of the picture.

50 inch 4k Insigna on a swivel mount. Primary viewing is auto related or sports. Also helpful to have access to you-tube.

I have a 28" LCD, an older one that was in my wife's bedroom before we got married.
We have Dish & I've never opted to pay for a Joey on that TV. I use a Roku on it, another freebie I acquired some place. If I'm working on something in the garage, it's nice to have a game on or something.

No Thanks, does not work for Me ! Cable is there can hook one up in minutes.

Rather be doing something then watching a TV even if it is just talking with friends and having a few beers.

I am thinking 65”. I have a 60” from about 10 years ago in the house and it feels like it weighs 50 lbs. I just bought a new 50” that weighs about 10 lbs.

I have a 42-inch Panasonic plasma flatscreen in which I recycled from the family room. Have WiFi and Directv in the garage for commercial-free music, baseball & hockey games and the occasional movie. Will post pictures.

I have an old one, still a tube one, but I don’t connect it, there’s no reason to watch it, there, in fact, you just hear sounds, it seems to me that it’s already worth switching to something more serious.

I enjoy TV in the shop with a nice sound system. TV is a 70” smart that I’m still learning more on. This week illuminated cable box, now use spectrum app on Roku.

Have a 50" mounted up pretty high on a fireplace pull down mount to bring it to eye level.

Connected up to a computer so I can see/make plans, keep notes, look stuff up, listen to music, or watch some racing or hockey. It's a lot better than try to look something up on your phone with greasy fingers too.

I have a 22" flat screen mounted high on the workbench wall of the farm shop.
I spend lots of time and sometimes long hours working on needed projects and equipment repair. It is nice to be able to keep a watch on local weather (I live in tornado country) along with news. I also do some machine work for neighboring Farmers and often times they will show up with a child or two in tow. The TV gives the kids and sometimes wives a good way to pass the time while I broach a quick key-way or press a bearing.

Samsung 32" and DVD with surround sound. These items are cheap enough. Cover the TV when welding, grinding or painting. New screens don't clean up like the old glass screens.

I have a ten year old 32” Black Friday special on a shelf on the Gorilla Rack, along with my 1970s stereo set. Also have a old easy chair recliner from my mom’s house near the wood stove.

I enjoy looking at my projects while watching a race or the Packers game.

I've got a 32" smart TV sitting on top of the garage fridge for now. I'll be wall mounting it once I remove the shelves next to the fridge. e54ceb0ef4469d9d2c4501d581c02dab.jpg

Any of you guys have a flat screen tv in your cold garage or shop? I have a big flat screen I want to put in our 30' x 40' garage that is not heated in the winter. I have heard both ways , yes and no. Just wondering what some of you have experienced. Thanks
Yeah, mine is out there all year in the freezing temps, and the stifling heat. I have HVAC out in my shop, but it's only running when I am working out there. Other times, the temperature is just whatever the temp is outside plus or minus a dozen degrees. I've never tried turning the TV on when it's super hot out there, because I can't stand working in the heat, let alone relaxing in it, lol. So I couldn't tell you if it works in the heat. I know if it's below freezing, it will just blink an error code if you try to turn it on.

But under "normal" ambient temps, it works fine. And my LCD computer monitors work no matter what the temperature is, and I imagine a modern LCD/LED TV would be just fine too. My TV is an old plasma, so it's a little pickier than most.

Side note- I spent 5 years repairing hundreds of TVs. Truckloads of plasma and LCD TVs. And they sat in the docks outside in semi trailers all winter in the bitter cold, and in the blazing heat of summer, awaiting their turn across my workbench. None were effected by temperatures. TVs are pretty tough. They may not function correctly if you try to actually use them in the bitter cold, but they won't be damaged permanently by it either.

Had a TV in the shop at my old house, mostly watched ball games with my son when he was growing up. Slowed progress on our projects, but good bonding time.

Transitioned back to radio at my new place. Mostly listen to oldies music, but also some baseball games if I can get them.

Hard for me to watch TV if working on projects.

I put up an old 36" I got as a hand me down. I put it on a wall mount that allows me to tilt it and pull it out and away from the wall. We were planning to use this space for a small home gym but that changed. So it just sits connected with a Blu Ray player and a laptop or Desktop computer hooked up to stream stuff on it. I would put somethin on the TV while I completed some small wood working projects.

No TV or desire for one in my shop. The other guys on the street have one and that is their escape from the significant other so they have it as "out of the house time" without being "out".

I'm in the shop for other purposes so having a visual or audio distraction is one I can do without. Hearing how the process is going is an audio queue so I want to hear how it is going. I don't want the distraction basically as well as safety issue. Slows me down if I'm going to watch TV opposed to concentrating on my task.

I picked up a free 55'' off marketplace, installed it in the corner, over the workbench.
It works mint, but I never use it.
