Facom hammers arrived today - very prompt shipping. Great item fo rthe money as well.

They're marked "France" on the handle, but as we know now this really only means that 10% of the water used to grow the tree came from France. :D

Finally some good news for British manufacturing.........

Cos after this year, I'm pretty sure the other 90% came from over here.

However, I also noticed that Amazon have been sneaky and changed my original link to ones not on offer. I have updated my original link for those that are still interested in this deal.

New link also below-

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0001D9JDK/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE

Looks like they are out of stock with Amazon themselves so their site just shows the next best offer from another provider, which is pretty ordinary in comparison.

The link still allows you to order direct from Amazon at the discount price but with a 3 to 5 week delivery time.

Slight cross-post with the "old world" thread, but I've just got this order in from Tooled-Up:

View media item 23517
The hammers (£8.33 and £4.16 +VAT) and screwdrivers (£1.66-£3.33+VAT) are "Format" brand -made in Germany. I suspect alongside Gedore hammers as they're virtually identical, but far cheaper.

There's a reasonable range of Format stuff on the tooled-up site, including spanners -maybe all Gedore clones, but I've spent too much money elsewhere to find out for myself. Good value though.

The Wiha hex keys (3-8mmx150mm £10.79+VAT) are also German made.

The Facom universal cutters (£11.90+VAT) have no COO. The blades look really good, the handles maybe not quite as nice, but will probably be OK.

My £10.99 set of Knipex side cutters / strippers have arrived. The fit and finish is excellent with sharp and aligned jaws. As I am adding a bundle of sockets to my garage they will be attacking a load of 2.5mm twin & earth soon enough.

Excellent deal from Amazon.

They are nice aren't they. I put mine to use last night after I ran over the lawnmower cord

The correct price of these is nearly £30 so I can guarantee that they will not stay at £10.99 for long.

recommend them highly enough.

Knipex 002011 Pliers Tripple Set for £48.97 with free delivery (usually around £60):

http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B001094GLY/?tag=atomicindustr-21

CamelCamelCamel says they've been that price since july 4.
There is some other mob selling for 39quid plus 9 post. so no real difference.

Strangely enough Amazon wont ship this kit to Australia, despite being dispatched by them. The shipping on the VDE pliers was more than the plier, so no dice for me.

You can get CamelCamelCamel to email alerts when it notices price drops. Might be handy for some people to know.

Raaco 44 drawer steel organiser cabinet £23.15 with free shipping (If anyone has one of these let's hear what you think of it - I'm on the fence about ordering one.):

Draper 30-drawer steel organiser cabinet £18.14 with free shipping:

They are pretty good for the money, ideal for small items like washers, springs etc.

I got mine from www.bes.co.uk item number 12678, comes in a bit cheaper than Amazon but there is a delivery charge on top unless you spend £45 or more. I use them for plumbing supplies so can easily reach the carriage paid order level.

Yes they are fairly sturdy, think they are designed more for small electrical components but for the money you can't go wrong. Just don't go filling it full of m16 hex nuts and set screws!

OK found a new site for the Laser mini box, £20.17 + shipping:

(EDIT - I've removed this link. After ordering two of these from Tool Academy, and chucking in a plastic Facom box only because they were cheap and I was paying the shipping anyhow, they weren't able to supply the Laser boxes and are sending me the Facom box. They've reduced the shipping rate by about half, but I would have preferred them to contact me first and give me the opportunity to cancel the order.)

Shipping is a bit steep at £9.99, but there are a few bargains on the site so you might be able to spread it out. I spotted the 16" and 19" versions of the Facom plastic toolbox for just £11.40 each:

I see the photo of Chirchill. Dang, we need more men like him. He was one of the greats and took a lot of flack and stuck to his guns. I loved to listen to him speek. He knew the English language.

argh i hate it when they don't ship international :willy_nil

Might be worth messaging them to check. They've not offered it as an option on the listing, but I don't see anywhere that they've stated that it's out of the question.

The cheap ones are not bad either. They tend to be within 3degC accuracy at typical temps which is ok but they are less tolerant of surface reflections compared to the Fluke (which still needs masking tape on very shiny surfaces),a little inconsistent (so best to take more than one reading) and have a narrower operating range.

The Fluke accuracy is not far off 1degC accuracy for typical use (think they quote less than 1%), its ratio is ok, the lens is top notch and the harmonisation is good. It's also pretty robust, feels nice in your hand, small enough to fit in most places, more tolerant of dust/muck and quick to operate, but relatively expensive.

I reckon the Fluke 62 is the best balance of all round performance of the type but the equivalent Amprobe runs it very close and is cheaper so is the one normally to go for unless you have to have the Fluke brand. However, at this price the Fluke is actually cheaper than the Amprobe!
