American Scale 524. 6" jaws that opens to ... and weights ... This is my working vise and it is missing the swivel base and has the same jaws as a A-Scale #25 jaws welded on.
I just picked up one of these today. Does anyone have any more info on the 524? Very curious when it was manufactured.

National Machinery & Supply Co., Ltd.
Hamilton, ON
104-1/2

The company had business relationships with both Rae, also Hamilton-based, and Yost. Presently unknown if National made the vise or had it made by one of those companies.

Interesting, looking at the 4th photo brochure, that vise looks more Reed than Yost or RAE.

The similarity between the big RAEs and Reeds has also been noted before, so something was going on there. So far, I haven't turned up anything to shed light on what the relationship might have been.

I have a sneaking suspicion that the National 104-1/2 vise pictured above was made by Rae. Here's a side-by-side comparison with a Rae 104-1/2 vise that I purchased a while back ( Post #87,154). The tell-tales include: (a) identical shape/size/styling, (b) both have the same "cast-in" jaw plates, rather than replaceable jaw plates, and (c) both have the same casting pattern ID number, 65, imprinted on the side of the stationary in exactly the same location.

And yes, they both look exactly like a Reed 104-1/2 which also had the "cast-in" jaw plates, rather than replaceable jaw plates held in with screws.

Thanks Tom, that's a helpful comparison.

Edit - checked for more pics. Can see in this one that the dynamic is marked "64", also like the RAE.

Unknown vise. Note: from the owner.

My grandfather has all of his fathers old tool from when he worked at Bethlehem steel in Buffalo and this is the only thing I cannot identify because I see no markings besides 4-1 and 3-3. It weighs a little over 40 pounds and if you look in the top right corner of the one picture it looks like an old gremlin/dragon head with an eye or I’m just crazy lol.

Here is a picture of a Parkinson 8a, 6 inch jaw model, very very early type, england, not mine
it is mentioned on the list however no photo
someone has drilled and replaced jaw screws with socket screws, however otherwise original
weight 33 kg
1896019597.jpg

1896019741.jpg
Quite different to my 8A, even ignoring the swivel base.

Can anyone help me identify this vise? It’s 6” long, 4” tall with 2” jaws. The only markings I can make out are a 6T on the bottom of the jaw. The back jaw can slide out and is removable as you can see in photos. There is also some writing on the froward jaw above the screw handle and all I can make out is Vise C. Thanks in advance for any help!

Looks like it says Prentiss based on the visible "NT" in the stamp
