Wilton HD 4". 4" jaws that opens to 5" and weights 40lbs. This one was restored by me and a custom set of jaws was built. The 4 x 3/4 jaws that was original was welded on.

Fifty years down the road someone will be scratching their head over the
" Parker like " jaws on that Wilton :headscrat :headscrat
Nice Fix !!

Dr Scott, did you make that York decal yourself? I've been trying to source one for my own York 100. Someone in Canada offers them in 1 size only, I tried asking them if they could resize it but they never got back to me.

No, they came from the same person. I have spent many hours creating the image and sizing them to fit on the three smaller sizes and after printing them on a Vinyl sheet. It did not turn out like I wanted so I will need help. Here is the image if you want to try your luck. When I get time I will go to our local print shop and see if they can create the vinyl stickers.

Parker 434 1/2" Base
I picked up a Parker 434 1/2 to disassemble and part out. I turned it over and there is no nut, there is a spring clip holding it one. Has anyone come across this setup?

Hey Nick. I own and have restored a Parker 433 1/2A. I would speculate it's a late example Parker before it became Union Parker because mine too had only a metal spring clip and it has the later squared jaws. When I put mine back together I used a thick washer and a beefy c-clip instead. a666ca1582a5e2a2a5fbbdddf1f73873.jpg9c61eab7c79d9ff39f006e0e703ebb05.jpg0ff198e2fcc0f5481b9ee8d4df1e10d3.jpg

The bolt w/ acorn cap nut on one side is a temporary solution. Still not sure what the end result will be but once it cools off a bit here in AZ it's on my to do list.

Those bolts dont look bad. I have that same exact parker. I couldn't figure out a way to replace the factory pipe jaw pins. I could only leave them in place and paint over them. I wanted to take them off before I painted and polish the jaws. I couldn't see how to heat up new ones and peen them over without ruining the paint. I think your idea works well.

KMScott...Looks like a Fulton Peerless lineage. So maybe Fulton Machine & Vise or the later Lowville Machine & Vise.

The Peerless, Sterling and Perfection all look very similar and have the same specs.

That swivel lock wrench is awesome! Is it how they came from the factory? My Hollands 46 just had a couple of bolts that I assumed replaced the originals at some point.

Found a couple of catalog scans here in the GJ. Note the change in model # for your vise.

Awesome. Thanks. Any idea of what year those ads are from?

The date of the 1st scan is unknown, while the 2nd scan is from 1959. I always list the date and source, if available in my filenames. Love the vise!

I'm really intrigued with the old Hollands with a similar swivel handle that was posted on the main vise thread a few days ago.

I have a #33 Perfection, 5'' jaws, but it's pretty rough.---I think it was left in the mud for a spell.---Haven't done anything to it yet, I can't really remember where I put it.

KM, I'll try to find the Perfection and get you the rest of the stats on the #33.---Just saying Perfection is a paradox or misnomer on that one cause there ain't nothing even fair much less perfect about it.:headshake:sad:

VA...If your #33 specs match the catalog scan below, I feel pretty confident that the scan specs can be used for any Peerless, Perfection, Sterling or "unbranded" vises with the same model.

I love your old, rusty #33. It's from such a rich time and place. Lewis and Oswego counties of NY have some of the richest history from that era. It's also from one of my favorite visemen, Edwin W. Fulton.

I was just looking back through the early pages of the vise thread and I tumbled down the rabbit hole. I found a member restoring a very large Columbian. I saw this picture of the underside of the dynamic jaw. I am in the process of restoring an almost as large Hollands 46. Does anyone know if Hollands were supposed to have a spring and washer like this one on the inside of the jaw? I thought it strange that I only had the same type of collar in mine. What does the spring do?:headscrat

The one with the 55 stamp is the Hollands

Thanks

This Hollands 021 has no spring :headscrat, looks like it may be a take on another patent .

Mr. Wonderful The spring just removes the backlash. Starrett and Athol is a vise that uses a spring like yours. Some English vises also use springs. Does not look original.

Fierljeppen, Thanks for the info.---I'll try to dig my old vise out and check the stats on it.---Of course when I weigh it I will have to extrapolate for material loss, pits and partial missing jaw support, to be taken into consideration.---But if the figures are not too far off I'll assume you're on target.---For cast iron to pit like that, it had to be buried up half way in the dirt for decades until someone plucked it out, cleaned it up, then waited for a sucker like me to come along.---$65.00 off eBAY.:headshake

Ok thanks for the info on the Hollands. I'll assume that it never had one unless someone else finds something. This is one of my favorite projects and I really want to get it right. As many of you have pointed out, info on Hollands is pretty hard to find.

Oswego/Sawyer 601-3/4C. 1-3/4 Jaws. No other info on this vise. Just sold on e-bay for over $500.

KMScott...That latest Nutyp model came out in October of 1930 as the International Nutyp Corp., then finished out as Sawyer Tool (Sawyer Foundry & Machine Works) from about 1935 - 1958 and beyond?

A casted Oswego Tool Co. model is still on my bucket list.

I've been working on this one for about 2 years now... its not for sale. I've thrown stupid money at it and he won't let it go, so the least we could do was break it down and clean and lube it.

Its a Columbian. No model number. Old style columbian Logo, Old style jaws. I'm guessing its a 107 based off the Vise chart. 7"Jaws Very fine threads. takes forever to open up the full 12" opening. Slide is in excellent shape. The retaining collar is a nut, that almost looks original. He really didn't want to sell it after putting it back together and the easy on finger operation....

Spindle Ball is extra Large and not columbian like. handle has been modified with nuts on the end.

base has a large "brace" cast into it so the work bench would need notched or mortised to sit flush on the edge of the bench. If I ever end up with it i'll post the weight. don't hold your breath though.

That is a nice one AngryBeaver. I do not know how to list it on the spreadsheet. Maybe after you get it I can get more spec:s then I could list it with the weight and max opening and as a Columbian like you say. Maybe under the paint is a model number. Columbian's with C style jaws are not common, I have one that is hiding somewhere with the same style jaws.

AngryBeaver...The (1918-1920) scans below show -3- different versions of your vise. It looks like they changed the screw spindle and stationary base type within a very short period of time.

Very interesting Columbian vise for sure! Hope you're able to get it.
