Vietnam looks like a very beautiful place. My son just recently visited there but unfortunately during the recent big Typhoon so less sunshine and lots of water. He sent me some of their coffee to try and it was very good. Interesting fact the they are so large in world production of coffee.

I still don't have a photo hosting site I like so I'll upload some.

All of these pictures were taken with walking distance of our cabin near a 400 acre lake here in the Black Hills. I'm guessing in a straight line all of them are within a half mile but in some cases it was probably a two mile hike with 800' of climbing.

The last picture is the view from the sleeping loft at our cabin. We can only see a bit of water due to all of the trees.

Thank you for the photos and I would love to see more. Both of Vietnam and Siberia.

I think that living in the states you have enough places for beach holidays inside the country, California or Florida, as well as Mexico, the Caribbean, Hawaii, South America

I live in Florida and rarely get to the beach. I much prefer Vietnam, and was there early this year. Beaches here are too crowded.

By the way, in Russia we have the name Bogdan is found among people. In our school was the teacher of drawing was a name Bogdan.

About winter clothing.

Much depends of the temperature on the streets and what you are going to do. If you work outside or for a long time spend there, I personally wear the pants over them, warm beleieve pants, they are not blown and perfectly retain heat, although very thin. I wear a t-shirt, warm sweater and down jacket. If I work in an office, wearing usually jeans, dressed over pants. The more layers, the warmer, elementary physics

Entrance of Zheleznogorsk.

Stella with the old name of our city during the Cold War and the coat of arms at the entrance to our city.
Old name is "Krasnoyarsk-26" it's top secret town in taiga. Before the collapse of the Soviet Union, our city was not marked on maps. Currently, the city is closed to visitors. To enter the city a pass is required, which is issued by the Federal Security Service (FSB) after verification. The city is surrounded by a fence of barbed wire, entry is through the checkpoint, cars are inspected by security guards. All this provides additional security for residents and for the functioning of strategic enterprises in the nuclear and space area.

We do not feel imprisoned as it may seem from the outside.
I like the fact that our city is closed, asocial elements like criminals or homeless people can not just get here.

If you need multi-storey hotels, then you definitely are not here. This is the remote place, here live simple Vietnamese. Good-natured, smiling people who loved us very much, many of them worked in Russia and in particular in Siberia. Many people know Russian a little, which amazed me, although it is very difficult for them to speak. Those who know English a bit, but in a cafe you can explain what exactly you need without problems. The menu is usually in Russian and English.

A few days ago I wrote a post about our cottage, but the page is accidentally closed and everything was erased. I was freaking out because I spent a lot of time on this post.

In the Russia country house called a DACHA / ДАЧА. Usually there grow vegetables and fruits for their family, as well as potatoes for the whole winter. It really helps to get quality food at a very affordable price. Although I hate to do something there, but I go there just to wash the car, to fry a barbecue / SHASHLIK / ШАШЛЫК, to drink beer and go to the russian bathhouse

It is a country house of the grandfather of my wife Katya, who died a few years ago. Home for nearly 35 years.

Below the hill is located the cottage of the Katya's parents, we call it "NEW" DACHA it is not yet completed.

In the Last year, my father-in-law bought a snow-removing machine it's made in China. Its cost approximately 350-400$.

My father live in the private house and have a garden mini-tractor (in summer, you can cut the lawn, and in winter remove the snow), snow-removal machine made via "Husqvarna" and of course a bunch of shovels

That is an excellent price for that size machine ! Something like that would cost about $1000 here !

I am currently fixing my neighbors machine (we almost never get more than 10 cm of snow at one time, so it is overkill) because it has not been properly maintained. Keep the side skid/shoes adjusted properly. Lubricate EVERYTHING. Every couple of years, you should tear it down and clean and lubricate all shafts/bearing, especially the ones that do NOT have grease fittings.

Properly maintained, it will last a longtime.

The dacha is located about 10km from our house, if you go by car, then about 10-15 minutes takes the road. Since we live so almost in the taiga, I hardly feel any difference in the freshness of the air. If we compare the Krasnoyarsk air and in the Zheleznogorsk, then yes, the difference will be colossal.
At the dacha it's nice to be in the summer, listen to music, fry shashlik and sunbathe in the sun, and in the evening go to the bathhouse and drink ice beer. The main thing is that mosquitoes do not devour you alive

Water is used from the water main, the pumping station pumps water from the Cantat River, which flows into the city lake. You can not drink it because it is not purified, but you can use it for household purposes.
There is no septic tank, the water pours out simply to the land. At the dacha do not live like in an apartment, this is a rest house, and therefore is arranged very budgetarily, more like a roof over your head for the time of rain and spending the night at the weekend.

We have had an unusually cold and snowy December in SE MI ! Over 25cm of snow so far this season and tonight it will get down to about -15C ! We are on the back side of a low pressure headed toward Montreal. That much snow and those temps are not that unusual, but usually we get them in January or February.

Stas, this thread is fantastic! I am learning so much about where you live. The coat of arms for your city is very cool. The photos are fantastic and you have a beautiful family. I was in the USA military for over 20 years, Many of those during the Cold War. It is fascinating to see where you live.
