I found the New Years Buy thread last night, and caught up on all the posts there and here this morning. I just ordered 2 full sets to go with my new Tool Vault I just ordered. My credit card is smoking from all my recent purchases, but what the hell you only live once.

I hear they print more money every day......I just need to figure out how to get them to send it my way!

I wonder how the New Years buy went. Mr. Westling is either really busy or not to happy about the results lol

Alex did respond with plentiful thanks to the other Westling thread (the actual 1/1/13 stickied thread).

I won't take the liberty of disclosing order numbers since it's not my place, but I believe he was very happy with the results.

In the other thread, Alex posted a picture of his small team. While I agree that the Made in USA stamp is always nice to see, in my mind I will see Alex and his crew whenever I consider the origin of the holders. They're not just made in the USA, they are made by a small group of people whom we now "know" and who walk among us here on this forum. Doesn't get much better than that.

I hope to buy a set or two for my extra sockets, and maybe pick them up if I can, I live 1.5 hours away but they are between my house and my folks.

My ideas....
Black...Green...thsoe are the 2 colors I want.

Secondly...how about a Complete "board" which covers 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2" drive? in other words all 3 sizes on one plate...

I like the tall pins of the Hansen...any way we could get tall pins?

IMO, a big claim to fame (and why I love my Hansen's) is the easy read sizes...having all the sockets upside down where the size is at the "bottom" will just make it "harder" to find whatever socket I'm looking for. Takes me a fraction of a second to find my 1/2"-3/8" Drive now..

The thing about tall pegs is then you can't put drivers on there... like hex, torx, phillips or straight as well as adapters. I bought a set of 1/2 just for that reason... Same thing with them being pre-labled... It defines your layout for you. I like being able to put things where ever I like.

Hey guys, figured I'd let you know. Every once in a while I check the westling site to see if they are offering anything else. Well, they sure are. I don't know if it's been posted or when they made the change, but they now offer engraving the size in front of the peg. Makes me wish I had waited to get mine!

Now I really need to buy these. I was soooo close when they were offering the group buy. Maybe we can get another one together?

I sent them a suggestion they make a 3 tier set for deep/mid/shallow socket sets, a tray for extensions that match their existing sets, and one with mixed size pegs for adapters. Promptly ignored at each turn.

There was some funny business with the last group buy I think, was a while back and I'm too lazy to look it up. I'd probably get in on some again if there was a group buy but I got to say I'm not falling over myself to give them more money.

I don't remember hearing of any funny business.... I remember hearing about a **** load of orders placed to a small USA company who's main line of business was NOT those trays, in a short period of time none the less.... I remember hearing how they struggled to get orders both made up a shipped and as far as I know they got everything out. Maybe you should describe the funny business instead making unsubstantiated claims. They got alot of suggestions, did you expect a home visit from them to pat you on the back because your ideas were miles ahead of everyone elses? Not to come off as the *** hole, but I never heard anything but praise over how they handled ALOT of orders. the first post about the trays were dated 12/02. And a group buy was set up for the first of the year.... Kinda short notice. Not to mention the influx of orders we heard about before hand from a few vendors to boot.

No funny business at all. A great product at a great price. I love mine. Miles better than the plastic trays I had before.

I want to explain something that I have found as a good habit to prevent impulse purchases on the internet. Might be helpful to some, maybe it makes me a crazy person. But I got and keep my financial house in order by doing this. I don't buy anything online the same day I decide I want it. Usually I let it simmer for a few days, with few exceptions. In this case I think I waited until people had said they received theirs before I ordered. It was a while ago so that may be a foggy memory. Anyway that helps to explain the rest below.

I want you both to read what i said as 'i bought one and supported them along with everyone else on GJ but i think they can do better regarding the details, and I'm still willing to give them another shot if there's a second group buy'

I remember the physical part better than the numbers. I may have a receipt I can dig up but in the mean time. Credit where credit is due, nothing got damaged during shipping. But I distinctly remember the packing job wasn't confidence inspiring. The products themselves are great.

I spent the morning going back through both threads to find out what was up. I did find it eventually;

Bull said:
I will take responsibility for any shipping confusion. Previously, their offerings were free shipping with $99 and above orders, IIRC. I assumed free shipping for full sets was still the norm, but did not know what their special pricing structure for us would be.
link

The price for the full set before the GJ discount cost less (by a few $) than the GJ discount full set + shipping for the said items. I remember when I put it in the cart was not the same day as when I ordered, and was a little confused when it came out costing more. It was more the principle of the issue to me, and I feel that even if Westling didn't originally create the communication issue, they didn't do enough (at least not enough for me to notice at the time) to clear it up. Of course, they benefitted so anyway.

AGAIN not burning witches at the stake, like I said I am ready to give another chance and would very much like to see the product line expanded, but I think they should take it as a learning opportunity the same as I did.

Well, as my post indicates I took the responsibility for the shipping confusion. That isn't really something that they did.

Regardless, I wouldn't hesitate to buy from them again. Hopefully they will be able to produce some wrench racks.

My experience with them was just fine.
I did order over $99 worth, and received free shipping. Seemed like throwing money away to just order the $89 set, plus shipping. Purchased another item for roughly the price of shipping and ...:D

I will be all over a complete set of these when you come out with a magnetic version. I move my sockets between my roller and my road kit all the time. Magnets would make all of the difference for me because I move my sockets around so much and dealing with sockets falling all over the place is a pain.

A lot of people on this thread mention about marking and magnetic.

Those tray ARE magnetic and you can get them with size engraving (20$ extra)

thx.

i placed an order last week for the full set. they went out monday but havent showed up yet. I was going to call yesterday, but got caught up in some stuff at the shop and it was too late. Hopefully monday will be the lucky day.

to those that have gotten them, did they go out ups or usps?

When I talked to mr westling on the phone monday, I asked him about evenly spaced pegs. They had just gotten in an order of aluminum stock and would start working on them soon, going with a different color too. He said to check the website in a few weeks.

Edit: had to run to the shop to pick up a few things, mail man was walking up with it right then. They are b-e-a-utiful.

You might want to buy a single tray and try it out. I'm not sure the sockets would ever fall off the pegs while moving from one place to the next. I can turn a full tray to a fully vertical position without any sockets falling off, so I don't see how'd they fall just from normal moving about at temporary angles of much less than 90 degrees.

Me too. I read that a couple years ago there would be more color options, but I'm not seeing any. Did they trash that idea?

A month and a half later . . . still nothing. :dunno:

Well, I'm not too impressed with the empty promises, or blatant lies, if you will. :bs: Instead of waiting around indefinitely for something that will never happen, I grabbed this customizable socket tray for five dollars, and a bottle of Titebond. It's even made in the USA! :fawk:

It's able to accept any colors I want (Black and Toxic Green), and be custom-fitted to my drawer widths. I love how GJ makes me want to spend money, but then I looked down and I noticed I have 1/2, 3/8, and 1/4-inch drill bits begging to bore into something. It's a shame I was thinking about paying other people to use THEIR tools, when I should be using my own. It also won't cost me an extra $20 to label the sizes.

I'm not a talented carpenter by any means, but then I realized how simple this concept is. :see:

Here's a picture of my new socket-rails "some assembly required":

I just received a set of these, largely due to this thread.

I am very satisfied with them thus far, they hold sockets well and really help me organize. I did not select the marked versions as I did not want to be constrained. I think I made the right choice, but time will tell.

I speaking with Westling, they said they expect to have the wrench holders out sometime before Christmas. I think I know what I'll get as a stocking stuffer.

Cheers,

Keith

Both times I ordered from them they came USPS. I am very happy with mine, and most likely will order more. The last couple of years they have had a sale around Thanksgiving, so if you can wait, just check their web site then.
