Laid down 2 coats of Master series rust preventer on my VW chassis.

Tomorrow nite will be the top coat. A nice gloss black.

I cleaned on the old Carbir CS2 race car and pushed her into her semi retirement spot. Hell she deserves it with 9 National Championships and over a 100+ National wins! and new track record at every track we ran but it kills me to see her just sit there.

Changed EGR valve on 2005 Grand Caravan. Wasn't bad once I figured out which version I needed. They had a part change sometime in the model year - no part number on the one on the car. Found a website where I got a build sheet.

Oldest son and I took apart the youngest son's bicycle that we got at a garage sale to try and figure out why the pedals would lock up sometimes. Seems the previous owner didn't tighten the jam nut on the bearing/brake preload and just tightened it down with the same torque as you use to hold the axle on the bike. We took it all apart, figured out what was wrong, cleaned everything up and put a new layer of grease on everything. Put a preload on that didn't feel like it was crushing rocks inside, tightened the jam nut, then finished the reassembly. Also removed a non-functional hand brake.

I tried to let the oldest son do most of the work, but ended up doing half of it myself - not because he couldn't do it, but because I struggle helping someone else do something that I've never done unless I do it myself. It's something I need to keep working on. Good to spend time in the garage with the kids though :)

Thank you!
I feel guilty for putting it off so long since it was so easy and made such a difference in the looks of the cover.

I know the feeling about putting things off. I had a list of things I wanted to built in my last shop that would make my shop time more enjoyable but they always got put off because of things that made me money.

In my new shop I have done many things that I wish I had done years earlier and it sure changes the feeling of the whole place and makes me smile to myself each time I use the tool or piece of equipment.

Last night I got home and was able to spend some quality time with my son in the shop discussing his Jeep WJ build and then looked over the coach and did a couple of minor things and cleaned up the shop from last weekends wind storm that blew grass clippings into my shop and just sat and relaxed in the shop until the wife returned home from work.

Spent time debugging a really weird issue with the 3d printer last night.

My print bed is 200mm x 200mm. The part I was printing was 220mm x 10mm.

If I rotate the part 45 degrees and print it, it comes out 218mm x 10mm (reproduceable).

BUT (and here's the crazy part)... If I rotate the part -45 degrees so it's angled the other way, it came out the correct size.

I still can't figure out why, but at least I have the part printed.

Do you work for Pegasus? I used to order everything from them back when I autocrossed and did road racing.

Oh it looks to say Fegus or something in the car, never mind. Haha

Worked on my project truck all day. Driver seat brackets fsbbed up and wired. Still have to do the passenger. Putzed around trying to get this 05 mustang dash into my 93 explorer. Close but I'm having some issues with the support.

Have been cleaning up inside for the last 2 days while it is raining from the tropical storm on the Texas gulf coast. Sorting nuts bolts, and general reduction of useless items to the scrap yard. About 7.5" of rain here so far.

Never used it but many of the guys on Volksrods swear by it! :)

The main contact with Master series is a VW guy himself.

It is the first time using it and I just put down the top coat. The rust preventer went on like liquid glass with a roller, but either this stuff is too thick or I took too long applying it cause it was not as easy to apply.
Also a VW chassis has soooooo many nooks and kranies to get paint into.

Put the E46 treatment on my E90, not sure I like them, maybe I do, need to give it a few days.

I don't understand any of the "eyebrows" people put on headlights. It's not the look, I just don't like reducing the amount of light I put on the road...

To each his own!

Moved this bikes and lawnmower around so the wife can park in the garage again. The Honda in the back I picked up for $300 a few weeks ago. I can’t wait to get rid of it!

Well I don't have it yet...

In August my girlfriend and I are moving into a newly-remodeled rental. The best part is the 30'x36' pole barn on the property. Yesterday I had a blast laying out where I'll put the Firebird, the boat, my Ranger, the motorcycles, the work bench, and seeing what I'll still have left over for a work space. I can't wait!

Wow, that's different! That will look pretty cool when you're done. What made you want to try that swap?

Took apart the back of my Honda mower (again). Last couple times mowing after a bit the rear wheels would lock-up when trying to pull backwards, obviously something was warming up and expanding causing it to bind.

More reading on the interwebs pointed to undersized bearings used in the mowers (compared to new models). So the 'fix' is to sand down the shaft a little.

Cleaned everything up good too while putting back together. This time instead of lithium grease between most bits I'm going to give a dry teflon spray a try since a lot of crud got in where it really shouldn't...

Going to go mow the front yard in a bit and see if it's any better. Last time I took it all apart it was a couple mowings I believe before the issue happened again, so we will see...

Wow! looks very good!

Could you write a short "how too"so I can copy cat.

Thom

Alright, but remember, you asked for it!
I don't claim to know anything about engine turning, this is just how I did this project. I'm sure others on here have done many more and better jobs than I.
I would recommend starting with a piece of scrap and trying different diameters of tools to get the look you're after. Typically, the larger the piece, the larger the tool you'll want to use.
We'll start with the tool I used in this application. It's a 1.75" PSA arbor that I used double sided tape to affix a piece of scotchbrite to.

View media item 84212
View media item 84214
I then started in the right hand lower corner. You will want to always start your rows from the same side of your workpiece.

View media item 84215
I clamped a guide at the top of the workpiece and marked the lower edge of the piece.

View media item 84216
I then determined the spacing I wanted between rows and marked the measurements on the table.

View media item 84220
I finished the first row, stepping over half the diameter of the tool, eyeballing this distance.

View media item 84221
Then moved the guide to the next line.

View media item 84211
I then finished the second row positioning the swirls half way between the ones in the first row.

View media item 84209
Repeat as needed to finish your parts.

View media item 84208
Once you are set up, it goes very quickly and using the clamp and guide system, results are very repeatable.
Great thing is if you make a mistake, just scotchbrite the whole piece and start over.
I used about 6 of the scotchbright circles on the table cover, running the drill press at 350 rpm, no lube or coolant. It doesn't require very much pressure either.

Good Luck with your version and be sure to post some pictures!

It has been a great couple of days to work out in the garage
Rain has kept the temps in the 60F range and that means less sweat!
Day #2 in prepping the pony for a Assurance Ceramic Coating.
If you were to get your car detailed and prepped like I am doing, a detail shop would charge you over $800+ for my size vehicle.
The high price is due to the surface prep labor and materials involved in order to get your paint looking "as good as possible!"
Ceramic coating is a "premium" wax alternative.
A Ceramic Coating creates a permanent or semi-permanent bond with a vehicle’s paint, meaning that it does not wash away or break down and does not require repeated application every few months.
Less work keeping my paint protected!!!! Yay!

Yesterday I washed and "blue" clay mitt the body to remove the enviroment from the paint.
Today, I started this morning using Rupes "diamond" polish.
It is smoothing out a few scratches and allowing the orange to sparkle.
I have been tireless in fixing paint chips and trying to make the 11 yr old paint look new.

The paint looks like glass and it isn't ceramic coated yet!

It is nice to have the mini buffer for all those small areas and contours.

https://scontent-ort2-2.**.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/35970627_2306728076020391_4994157116743745536_n.jpg?_nc_cat=0&oh=aebae76801be0f41bbc12a57a5b9d02f&oe=5BBC23CC

Getting the painted surfaces inside the door jams too...why not?

https://scontent-ort2-2.**.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/35920406_2306727909353741_9088455479021010944_n.jpg?_nc_cat=0&oh=6b75635194936673a5952bc8e7106735&oe=5BAEA371

Took a break for dinner and then it is back out to wipe it down with Croftgate Surface prep just before we apply the "Assurance" Ceramic coating.... so Stay Tuned!!!

...That HAS to be the best kept and cared for Mustang, maybe any car, in the WORLD!
Looking fantastic, as always!
Wow, ambenz. .... It looks fantastic.
That is a lot of effort, but it looks like it paid off. Great looking car.

Thanks for the nice comments guys.

No way my Mustang is the best kept...I know a lot of Stangers who are cardinal clean freaks and win Top 5 almost every judged show they go to.
I have very stiff competition whenever we go to a Mustang specific show.
If you want to see my Mustang in person, I will be at the car show below, Saturday, June 30th, 2018.
I got my gun loving Uncle to stay at the house while I'm gone.

I've been working to get my hodge dodge of cabinets to share a similar color scheme. I've settled on this light metallic blue Rustoleum paint for the top coat. I just finished number 2 today including a hard pine top.

Upper control arm on my Buddy's Blazer after work today, warned him it was shot when we did the shocks last week. One good bump yesterday finished it off with a proper 90° bend and multiple tears in the crusty old sheet metal :lol_hitti

Shortened a salvage opener 4 feet and hung it. I wont get to test it until I get my new springs per forum advice. Also a bit more suspended shelf work. Thanks all!
