What do your Storage Cabinets look like?

Open rack shelves

Proceeding with the idea of using open shelves and then enclosing these, perhaps with corrugated sheet doors, as shown earlier, I installed this system today. It is easy to assemble with only a rubber mallet and comes with a wall attachment bracket, as shown in the photo below. It looks good, too. It is made in Italy.

F8L SNK, Where did you get the foam for cutting your sockets into? I had some come with my first used toolbox and can't find it anywhere to buy more.

I'm new here and was searching one day pics of garage makeovers and also what people put in their garage for storage and tools and came across this forum. Some of these garages have a lot of money invested in them and some have a lot of muscle and creativity as well.

We've been in our house just under 2 yrs and had to do alot to the inside of the house first. But....I found our solid wood cabinets off craigslist for free! I'm showing before and after pics of our garage. The ceiling wire racks were moved to each side of the garage door (over it when door is open). I'm not done in his garage yet. I am going to paint it and the cabinets when he makes up his mind what he wants in there. The cabinet find was (one of my) my Xmas gift to him! We can't afford much but I know how to get things organized - garage included!

I found it at Sealed Air out of Ft. Worth If you can't find it I'll find the original info for you.

My garage cabinets were picked up from a Salvage Sale at a local Aerospace/Defense contractor. They were originally Computer Tape Storage Cabinets - very high quality. Got them for $25.00 each - converted them to hold shelves - and painted them to match my tool box.

Then this year I added another Garage Storage Cabinet - this one with doors and castors. It's clear to the right side of the picture.

What I really like about them are the Roll-up Doors.. they don't take any room out of the floor space - and even if I have a car parked close - I can still open them and get what I need.

FWIW,
Carl B.

Plywood, bead board, screwed and glued. A little poplar trim and some 'perfectly blue' from the paint store. Modeled after the old lockers and pole hole cabinets at the fire station.

Your place looks perfect but the PVC air lines sure look dangerous. Nice space though. Thanks for sharing.

Ed

I have wanted to really make a full functioning garage since I bought my house 6 years ago. I have two, two car garages and the wife got the Premier garage cabinets for her garage in year two. I held out to do mine right. (not that premier isn't right, but not like this!) I do a ton of mechanical work in my garage. I have done motor swaps, supercharger installs, turbo installs and even converted my car to a full road race car. Unfortunately what I have fought is organization. I needed more tool storage, parts storage and general storage so I called up Moduline.

I dealt with Paul Quigly and he really made the process easy. I had some minor damage to one cabinet and they made sure to get me the replacement parts at no charge to me in incredible time. I can't thank him enough for outstanding customer service. It is rare to deal with someone that does EXACTLY what they say or better in this day.

I needed bulk storage, heavy parts storage, tool storage, waste storage, small parts storage and lots of countertop space. Well check everything off the list, I have what I needed.

Nothing cleans a garage like a true storage solution.

Wow... some nice stuff in this thread

Here are some I recently built. The structure is from some plywood, 2x6's and 2x4's my dad had left over from another project. The doors are made of 1/2 cabinet grade plywood and furring strips which are glued and brad nailed. The hinges are from changing the ones on our interior doors. I know these hinges ar not meant to be used that way, but it made it much easier for me to hang the doors by myself. I have a little more to do, then I'll take the doors off and stain it with a white, opaque, stain in and out. Originally, I was thinking black trim/red doors, but I think it will pull too much light out. The upper part of the garage will also end up being white when I'm finished.

The shelf is a cut up version of what is below the cabinets. My SIL work for the company that makes them (It's restaurant shelving) and we got a ton of it for free. My garage used to be lined down both sides with it. My Dad's garage still is. I gave much of it to my neighbor and cut up several for use in some of the other overhead storage I have.

This cabinent was a close out at HD ($20.00). I's made by Stronghold, but I have yet to see another. I keep my stereo and manuals in it.

This bench is made of cabinets we replaced in our Master bath. Painted black, added stainless hardware, an outlet, a receiver for a vise et. al., still untopped and currently piled with stuff from another part of the garage. It sits on a angle and tube structure I welded together to bring it to the right height.

Not sure if something like this has been posted here or not, anyway...

Went looking at ready-made metal cabinets and was disappointed in the quality and price. Used kitchen cabinets seemed like an option but I couldn't find decent ones in my area.
Started looking at the file cabinets I have around my office and thought they would be perfect except for how they look. They are all metal construction, have heavy duty drawers and slides and come in a wide variety of sizes. Off to Craigslist I went.
With the economy what it is, office furniture is saturating the marketplace. I found file cabinets for pennies on the dollar that were in great shape. I found a Steelcase unit that I liked and picked it up for $30. It's a 900 series unit that measures 65"x42"x18".
It looked like this when I got it home.

I decided it needed to visually match my toolboxes as I couldn't stand looking at that tan for the next ten years. First, I mounted some casters I had from an old beat up Craftsman cart I had. Mobility is key in my garage and shop as I am constantly moving things around for the next project. The bottom of this particular file cabinet had just enough material to mount the casters. I just welded them on, didn't feel like figuring a way to bolt them on.
I used Rustoleum Safety Red for the outer box and Hammered black and silver for the drawers.
Even added the Craftsman badge from the cart to finish it off.

Kaiser8: really nice job! i love to see people getting creative... it's what makes this forum so valuable to me.

although, for me, those cabinets wouldn't be enough to store half my motor oil stock pile.. i wish i had a very compact way to store motor oil 1 quart bottles... i have over 100+ quarts on various shelves in my garage...

That looks great. Better than my similar Steelcase that I paid the same color as other wood cabinets I had. Is the silver stripe a separate piece, or did ou just paint a 1" stripe?

Thanks guys. Actually a pretty simple project.
The silver is just the handle areas masked off, then painted with the hammered silver. Then I reverse masked and painted the hammered black. The red was easy, pull the drawers and blast away.

Why not? Each drawer will hold close to 40 standard quart containers.;)

Looks good. I has a few lateral files too and painted them as "**** the life out of me gray" was hard enough to look at in an office setting.
Here is my current setup for storage.

I put in different types of storage cabinets when I redid my garage. The white cabinets are from Home Depot and store things I don't use as often. The cabinets under the workbench hold things I need at the bench. The tall cabinet is for bigger things like chop saw, tile saw, etc. The Craftsman cabinet rolls to wherever I'm working and holds mostly tools I use on the bikes. The only thing not shown is a recently added matching tall Craftsman cabinet which is half ammo and half bigger things like buckets, etc.

Kaiser8,

That looks great. Very pro. Did you roll, spray, or rattle can the paint on? I've got a few posts with my fridge in it, but your job looks really nice.

Some great looking stuff guys. Nothing really creative in mine, just store bought stuff, but it hides everything real well.
Here's a peek, left to right shots and no, it isn't always this clean.

Mr. Jean.....What did you make the center bench out of? Steel or wood? I need to build something like that for my garage. By center bench, I mean the one closest to the camera with the two stools underneath. Black and butcher block top.
